Introducing Mr Hard Gay Ramon …wooooooooooooooooooohardgaywooooooooo

The sketch for this piece sat around for a year or so before I finally got around to painting it. I was dubious about tackling the project since 18×24ish is definitely the largest thing I’ve ever worked on before. In the end, it turned out better than I thought it would. Inspired mostly by my love for narwhals-I think they’re very beautiful creatures-and their connection to unicorn lore. But not so much by Peter Beagle’s book though it is one of my favorites. :)

This painting is of my cousin Mike and me, taken in December of 1953 in Paintsville, Kentucky. Mike was more like a brother to me than a cousin and it was a blessing to have him in my life. Original is acrylic on 12”x16” canvas. /

The Caper – Capparis spinosa, is well known in the Mediterranean region for its edible bud (and fruit) marketed under the name of Caper Berry, which is usually consumed pickled. It grows quite freely in the wild countryside especially in rocky regions. Capers are a distinctive ingredient in Southern Italian, Sicilian and Maltese cooking. They are used in Salads, Pizzas, Meat and Fish dishes. Examples of uses in Italian cousine are Chicken Piccata, and Salsa Puttanesca. They are also used in most Fish Sauces and to garnish Fish Dishes. Capers are also used with cold Smoked Salmon, Cured Salmon and occasionally as a substitute for Olives to garnish a Martini.

If you saw my posting called “Darkness and Light” a few days ago, this is the storm when it really intensified and touched down on a farm in Eastern Ontario, Canada, between Chesterville and Manotick. We parked the car and took pictures as it was moving fast and we were able to get some nice shots in between the rain and gusts of high wind. I’ve posted several other shots of the same storm recently. This one came up very suddenly out of what was a nice fine early evening. The speed it developed was quite amazing. / Sony DSCF828 camera, November 2, 2006. A day that forever we will cherish / before their childhood does perish With glowing gossamer wings / to hear as enchanted life sings As fairies within petals of a rose / another costume change to pose Swinging on colored flowering vines / upon Gramma’s lap ~ smiles shine In a sepia garden cousins kiss / moments captured in relative bliss A gift of remembrance and youth / captured through the lens of truth Time has changed them greatly since / and distance of miles won’t be convinced Kissin’ Cousins were captured this day / in Gramma’s heart and on her walls always. TK Rosevear 9/5/09 While speaking on the phone with my granddaughter tonight, she urged me to get this piece up for the Art and Stories for Children challenge/Tribute to Children, as we reminisced about our photo shoot for my 42nd Birthday. The girls, my granddaughters, Lexi and Lauren, were dressed up as fairies in a toadstool garden, inset to the inside of a rose, then changed into these country dresses & bonnets to swing on a swing and set within this sepia garden. We were photographed together, each seperately and them as a pair for several hours of shooting. We had a wonderful day, and these memories are plastered throughout our cabin walls to remind me of a most beautiful gift. Didn’t think the Elvis song would be appropriate, so chose Lexi’s favorite singer, Faith Hill singing Fireflies
The constantly-changing patterns of the Ross Fountain in the Butchart Gardens, Victoria,Vancouver Island, British Columbia, serve as a lovely backdrop for the array of flowers and plants that line the walkway and viewpoint. The fountain was conceived and built by Ian Ross, grandson of Jenny Butchart, in the deepest part of the sunken garden. This was part of the original limestone quarry which had been worked out. The garden was started by Jenny in 1904. It’s a National Historic Site of Canada and has been visited by millions of people from all over the world. Taken July 12, 2009 with a Fuji S100FS camera.
