I just started a B&W Film course at the ACP . Our teacher is Marco Bok who is a great photographer. I am learning about developing, printing, enlarging Film. It is something I have never learned. In the first lesson we did enlarging in the darkroom which was very exiting. Putting my “Rayograph” (We did not have any film yet to develop so we whacked some objects on the paper and switched on the enlarger. a technique invented by Man Ray .) into the developer and seeing my creation emerge out of nowhere was amazing. A new love was born. I will post my best shots during this course to the site starting from next week, including my first attempt at rayography. Hope my scanner still works… It has been sitting in a box for 3 years… I hope you have a look once a while and join me on my journey…

I was asked by a adult education teacher to design a 10 week course on “Introduction to Digital Photography” for local college. My biggest problem will be to not overwhelm with too many tech terms that a beginner, but to keep it interesting and yes amusing enough to engage the students. I have an outline, and am building it from there.

OPEN SESSION: open location, not limited to numbers, lower admission / 2. LIMITED SESSION: Limited in numbers, midrange admission / 3. EXCLUSIVE SESSION: small numbers, higher admission WHAT HAPPENS TO THE IMAGES FROM THE SHOOTS?* / I use them to promote and market them and in doing so the efforts of all those involved. ARTHOUSE PRODUCTIONS VIDEO MONTAGES ARTHOUSE PRODUCTIONS PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITIONS I actively market images and talent, whichever comes first depending on the opportunity. / I also get private or corporate clients requesting that I produce a certain image. Im posting this out here (and to the universe) to send me a place..a course..a teacher.. a something (!) so that i can really LEARN..fine tune what i know..go further, with 100% commitment…willing to pay money even, about these three subjects: Advancing my self taught knowledge of Photoshop Learn/study Illustrator Immerse & LEARN into the technical aspects of Digital Photography (cuz at the moment its ALL instincts, luck & a lots of try & wing’in it) Can anyone recommend short courses available in Melbourne? A good teacher? I now have the time and some $$ to finally give 100% to myself (no more stayhome-single mum of four kids and occassion to put my needs in the backburner!) and would really like to learn/do all the things ive wanted to do for like, 23yrs now.. when i look at job vacancies..i dont feel like i have a chance in any of them, cuz of the job/software requirements – sometimes i dont even fully understand the sentence/job terms! Haha.. I am all self taught, and i dont know what i know, if that makes sense… Ive always been the type to take on projects/jobs by instinct and wing-it, learn as i go, jump in with both feet..to get whatever that needs to be done. And 99.9% of the time, ive done it :) quite well..if i may say so, myself :P so now..ive got no more ‘dependants’ and its time to look after me! ive done some courses before, and theres a lot of courses out there that put me to sleep..especially tafe/community type ones.. Thats prob more cuz im self taught, and maybe i should be in the ‘advanced’ course..but cuz i dont have a beginner ‘certificate’ or anything.. Ive always had start with the Beginners course. I am planning to apply for NEIS and hopefully start that early Sept. But i still want to fine tune my skills, knowledge AND also start mixing with people of same interest, aims.. The self is made, not given. It is a creative and active process of attending a life that must be heard, shaped, seen, said aloud into the world, finally enacted and woven into the lives of others. / —Barbara Myerhoff /

    by Alison Johnston

Introduction In exploring personal and global transformation as you prepare for your journey through the transformation course, it i…

Introduction In exploring personal and global transformation as you prepare for your journey through the transformation course, it is important to talk about the concept of fluid intelligence in relation to the ability to grow and expand our awareness. Continue Reading Lesson 1 Thank you for joining us in the transformational process of coming home to ourselves. We have all played the dance of separation in one form or another, yet we are now re-membering our connection and reminding ourselves and each other that at the core of each one of us is divine love. Welcome back home to all of us! Continue Reading Lesson 2 Welcome back! After lesson one’s powerfully inspiring materials, this second lesson will begin to look at the ways in which we, as a collective consciousness on this planet, have chosen to explore separation and abandonment. Continue Reading Lesson 3 Welcome to lesson three of the transformation course. After learning how the media sometimes manipulates public perception in disempowering ways, it is easy to blame those in the media involved with this for many of the problems in our world. Yet in order to be powerful, inspiring members of the transformation team, taking responsibility for our own lives is an essential quality. Continue Reading Lesson 4 Remember that in order to take responsibility for our lives and promote major transformation in our world, it is important to know at least the basics of what’s going on behind the scenes. As always, we encourage you to open to divine guidance and ask for assistance in integrating this information in whatever way best serves you and all of us. Continue Reading Lesson 5 Our sacred love flows out to you! In the first lesson, we mentioned that every person in the world has a heart, and every heart has a place within that wants only to love and be loved. Since that lesson, you’ve been on a rather intense journey through shadow and light. Continue Reading Lesson 6 Look – in the sky – it’s a bird – it’s a plane. No! It’s an unidentified flying object sending love our way!!! It would be arrogant to think that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe – not to mention lonely. In fact, if the universe is billions of years old, it’s conceivable that there are many beings even in this galaxy who are at least millions of years in advance of us technologically. Continue Reading Lesson 7 Your sacred love flows into us. Our sacred love flows out to you and to all beings. Most of us know that each and every person on this planet has infinite potential within. Yet both conscious limiting beliefs and unconscious processes keep many people from even considering the power within themselves. Continue Reading Lesson 8 Are you ready to dive deeper? At two and a half hours, this is the longest lesson, so please move at whatever pace feels best to you. For those of you who were not aware of some of the hidden manipulations going on in our world before starting this course, this lesson may be challenging. Continue Reading Lesson 9 When faced with the potential of imminent death, most people suddenly find that life takes on a whole new perspective. Suddenly all of the belongings they might have accumulated seem quite meaningless while the relationships formed and love shared takes on great significance. Continue Reading Lesson 10 The place beyond death may not be scary for many on the Transformation Team. Yet for most of us, being sick in the physical body can be a figurative and literal pain. What is it that causes us to become sick? What keeps us healthy? These are not easy questions to answer, and the answer can vary greatly depending on what perspective we choose to take. Let us first explore the role of the pharmaceutical industry and politics in health. Please read the highly informative two-page summary at the link below. Continue Reading Lesson 11 You’ve now completed half of the transformation course. Congratulations!!! For those journeying with a guide, we look forward to your arrival in the community networking section of the website once you’ve completed the course. This lesson provides information which puts what we’ve covered here into a greater context and gives you an opportunity to reflect on what you’ve experienced so far during the course. To put the global political situation into a broader perspective, please read the concise two-page summary at the link below. Continue Reading Lesson 12 Now that you’ve completed half of the transformation course, it’s time to dip into the well of infinite energy. Very few know how to consciously tap into this well, yet we have all experienced the powerful forces there to some extent. Continue Reading Lesson 13 Possibly the most powerful action we can take to promote planetary transformation is to explore deep within ourselves to find the places where either consciously or unconsciously we are not supporting what’s best for ourselves and for all of us. Continue Reading Lesson 14 Are you ready for another wild trip down the rabbit hole? Now that we have explored our own deepest personal challenges, it is time to explore what is possibly the deepest challenge facing our planet. Continue Reading Lesson 15 Now that we have gone to some of the deepest depths of both our personal and global challenges, let us shift our focus to inspirational materials which powerfully call on us to create a new paradigm based on love and empowerment. Most of you have heard of or read the transformational book Course in Miracles. Below is a link to several pages of the best quotes from the course. We invite you to read slowly through them and breathe in the deep wisdom shared. Continue Reading Lesson 16 Now that you’ve explored the shift in paradigms of which we are all a part, we invite you to consider how this applies to your own life. Possibly the single most important action transformation team members can take to help the shift to a new paradigm based on love and empowerment is to get clear on their purpose and intentions in life, and to then live that purpose and follow those intentions to the very best of their ability. Continue Reading Lesson 17 Though life for humanity on planet Earth and the challenges that come up in our individual lives can be infinitely complex, the principles behind what happens are often quite simple. Continue Reading Lesson 18 Two potent topics which offer incredible opportunities for transformation on both personal and global levels are sex and money. Both of these can bring up vulnerable parts of ourselves related to intimacy and security needs. Even people who have done a lot of personal and spiritual growth work can still run into serious challenges with one or both of these. Continue Reading Lesson 19 We may be taught little about money in our world, yet we are given even less healthy information about how to deal with sexuality in a sexually obsessed culture. For many people, sex is even more seductive than money. Our media, advertising, and entertainment industries are filled with subtle and not-so-subtle messages about sex. The underlying thrust is all about beauty, sexual desire, and how important it is to buy the products or operations which will make us popular, more attractive, and better lovers. Continue Reading Lesson 20 In terms of sexuality we are divided into male and female. In terms of money, we are divided into rich and poor. Our day-to-day life is filled with these and many other dualities. These dualities can easily lead to a polarization of beliefs and lifestyles. Once large groups of people become strongly polarized against each other, it becomes easy for those supporting one end of the polarization to justify hatred, killing, and even war against the other. Yet is this what we really want? Continue Reading Lesson 21 You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete. Buckminster Fuller Welcome to the final lesson of the transformation course! In this lesson, as we prepare to welcome all who have traveled with a guide through the course to join the Transformation Team community portal, we review previous lessons and come back to the interconnectedness of us all. Your sacred love flows into all of us. Our sacred love flows out to you. Continue Reading By no means do we expect all people/members to agree with information presented in the course. Yet by at least having gone through the many topics covered, we share an awareness of many things of which few on our planet are aware. By spreading this awareness, we can powerfully transform our lives and the world around us.

A bit of humour for my watchlist :) Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’ After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’ ‘It was Bob the next door neighbour,’ she replies. ‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?’ Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure. Lesson 2: A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’ The priest removed his hand But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. / The nun once again said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’ The priest apologized ‘Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.’ Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily / and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, ‘Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.’ Moral of the story: / If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity. Lesson 3: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. / The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish.’ / ‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’ / Puff! She’s gone. ‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’ Puff! He’s gone. ‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager. / The manager says, ‘I want those two back in the office after / lunch.’ Moral of the story: / Always let your boss have the first say. Lesson 4 An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’ / The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’ So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it. Moral of the story: / To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up. Lesson 5 A turkey was chatting with a bull. ‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’ / ‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull. They’re packed with nutrients.’ The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.. Moral of the story: / Bull shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there. Lesson 6 A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. / A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him. Morals of the story: / (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy / (2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your / friend. / (3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep / your mouth shut! THUS ENDS THE FIVE MINUTE MANAGEMENT COURSE

Hi folks - / We have just launched a Creative Arts School in Melbourne, called The Arthouse Project You may recognise Jessica Tremp , and Brett Foster as part of the project. / I will be holding a few photography courses myself, and we currently have four other teachers of various disciplines, to kick things off. We will be adding other creative arts courses throughout the year, including painting/sketching, sculpture, music and languages. Prices are comparatively reasonable – and our main goal is for our students to leave actually learning something. If you are interested in any of these, please visit the site. It is not quite polished yet, but it will do for now. Also – if you have any suggestions, or note any problems in the site – feel free to mail me. Cheers, / Mark

  • Workshop On Night Landscape Photography

Hi Folks, From time to time I’ve had inquiries about whether I run workshops on night landscape photography – how to photograph the moon and startrails and night landscapes. So I thought I’d do an Expression of Interest to ascertain whether there was enough interest for me to go to the trouble of putting a workshop together. I’d appreciate any feedback on the idea you may have. My initial thoughts is the workshop would run in three sessions: 1. Intro to night landscape photography and full-moon night field trip into Royal National Park from my house (RNP is an hour’s drive south from Sydney CBD) – this session would run for 3-4 hours on a night of the full moon. It would include photographing the sky, clouds and moon and also photographing the moonlit landscape both of which require different skills. 2. Startrails and Storms at night – both require very similar skills so, given how unlikely a storm is on the appointed night the focus would be startrails, but the principles are the same. Again this would be a 3-4 hour session including a field trip into RNP from my house and would include photographing startrails in their own right and combining startrails into a landscape composition. 3. Photshop techniques for night photography. Taking night shots is only half the story. To get optimum images (and often just to get an accurate image of what your eye actually saw at the time) you need to be able to process effectively. This session would show the techniques I’ve learned for processing shots of the moon, moonlit landscapes, and startrails which I’ve found are quite specific compared to the processing needed for day shots or portrait photography. This session would also run for 3-4 hours and would include “hands-on” processing of the images you took in Sessions 1 & 2. So what do you think. Would you be interested in doing a workshop like this that required you driving for an hour to RNP, doing the session and then driving home again afterwards at night? The main problem with a workshop like this is you have to run it at least an hour out of Sydney to even begin to get skies that are dark enough to work with. The other logistical problem for such a workshop is that it has to cover two phases of the moon – full moon and new moon in order to get full-moon lit skies as well as completely dark skies for startrails. But New Moon follows Full Moon so that means you could run one session per week over 3 weeks. So in summary, a workshop of one session per week over 3 weeks, with each session 3-4 hours. In terms of cost do you think $400 for the 3 sessions is reasonable? Seems to be pretty much the going rate for 10 hour courses in community colleges from what I can see. In terms of quality I used to be a TAFE teacher and have quals in adult education and a ton of experience in running practical courses for adults. So as I said, any feedback welcome – good, bad or indifferent. I really don’t want to go to the trouble of putting this together if the logistics of running it makes it too hard for people to do.

I had to share my good news. I won another lensbaby on Shutterbugs last month, and asked for a Nikon mount so that I could show my Nikon owning students how to play with the lens. My Canon owning students have always been able to have a go with mine, up till now. The lovely lady at lensbaby.com wanted to know why I wanted another lens, after having bought 4 already. When I explained that I wanted to allow more of my students a chance to use one, she asked for more details…..and the upshot of that little conversation is….. They sent me a new lensbaby composer!!!!!!!! And threw in the optic kit!!!! So now I can demonstrate the new lensbaby as well as the older ones….and as an added bonus, they’re going to advertise my classes and workshops on their website…. Don’t tell me all obsessions are a waste of time…..heh

I have just been notified that a photograph that I took at a photography course has been placed on the Austalian Geographic website. We had a small challenge at the end of the day course and the subject was án animal in its enviroment’. My image of a goat with the city backdrop was chosen by the other student/contestants for second place. My prize was a great photographers backpack. What a thrill. My image has now been added to AG’s new website. Of course I am surprised and once again tickled pink. Happy me!!!!! My camera is a Canon 1000D http://www.australiangeographic.com.au/society/image-gallery-index.htm?gid=3262

My refresher non-fiction creative writing course takes much time and plunges me into worlds forgotten – hours pass while leaping from book to online link of essays to paper to computer. All for the sake of research, of course. While I jump with vigor into this new-old world of writing, my photographs look weak to me. I delete rather than add, and have even less time to spend hours looking at fellow bubbler’s photos. For my purposes, this course equates to growth after decades of editing, but not to staying current with your photos. The photo below is the first photo I purchased from RedBubble quite awhile ago from my virtual friend Cherax. Obviously, even virtual alliances in cyberspace mean a lot to me. I wish you good health and moments of joy! / And, to quote Arnold Schwarzenegger’s infamous words, I’ll be back!. Actually, obviously, I haven’t really left, nor been “Terminated”. Meanwhile, if you feel inclined to get in touch, send an email to janlovesdogs AT gmail.com. I love to get diverted. Cheers, / Jan

G’day all. I’m involved in writing some courses for the photographycampus.com / There will be all types but I’m interested in what other photographers (such as your good selves) reckon are good subjects, themes, topics for courses. What would you like to have been able to watch when you first started out and even now? I’d love love love any feedback :) Mellos
