I must have bugs or insects on the brain or they are following me around because everywhere I go to shoot a picture it seems the bugs get all the attention. And – lol – I really dislike insects and bugs! But this guy had an apparently voracious appetite as he’d devoured most of this beautiful bright red zinnia in no time at all! A portrait version of this shot These are 300 year old beach trees and getting to the end of their natural life. When touring around Northern Ireland we were lucky enough to see a couple of photos of this place and eventually managed to find a toutrist info person that knew where they were. So with the sun low in a September sky we headed out and found possibly the most stunning bit of road I have ever been on in my life! Sony Alpha A200 18mm

This golf course is at Pennington Flash and because it never stopped raining over the winter, it appears like a beautiful pond! The seagulls absolutely love it.

Took this shot the other evening with my Nikon D70 having borrowed a friends lens+converter for 20 minutes. Pretty pleased with the results although I did have to crawl through a marshy patch of thistles to get close enough! / I’m sure if you’ve ever tried to get close to a Hare you will understand how tricky this shot was- he is no pet rabbit thats for sure! / I’m a big fan of Hares and am quite blessed in the fact that so many live near my cottage in rural Kings Ripton, Cambridgeshire. A good friend visited me for the weekend and we went and took a long walk in my neighborhood. This was taken at a nearby golf course… we weren’t playing, just walking and enjoying the beautiful day! Green Valley, Arizona Taken with my Nikon D-80, 18-135 mm lens, CP filter.
This is the shot that won the Heritage category, entered into the Visions at Heritage 08 Art & Photography Exhibition today. Still on cloud nine! I sold it as well which was a bonus, I’ve never had a red sold sticker on one of my photos before!

Bobotie / No self respecting South African housewife does not own (and treasure!) a favourite bobotie recipe. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil / 2 onions, peeled and sliced / 2 1/4 pounds good quality lean ground beef / 1 thickish slice of white bread / 1 cup milk / 1 tablespoon medium curry powder (or hot for the hale and brave) / 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar / 2 teaspoons salt / freshly grated pepper (about a half teaspoon) / 3/4 teaspoon turmeric / 1 1/2 tablespoons malt vinegar / 1/2 cup seedless raisins / 2 tablespoons strong chutney / 2 bay leaves (or fresh lemon leaves if available) / 2 medium eggs / / / METHOD Preheat oven to 350°F. Heat oil in medium sauté pan. Stir in onions. Cook over medium heat until transparent. Add ground beef. Cook until lightly browned and crumbly. Soak bread in half the milk, squeeze out excess milk and mash with a fork – DON’T TOSS SQUEEZED OUT MILK! Pour it straight back into remaining milk. Set milk aside, and ad pulled-apart bread to the meat mixture. Add curry, sugar, salt, pepper, turmeric, vinegar, raisins, chutney to the beef mixture. Spoon the mixture into a greased baking dish, and place bay leaves on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes in preheated 350°F oven. Beat egg with remaining milk and pour over mixture approximately 25 – 30 minutes before end of baking time. Serve with steamed rice (traditionally yellow!) and extra chutney. Pure South African comfort food! Especially nice in winter, or cold with a salad in summer. Serves: 6 Featured In: / Recipes (19.04.09) /
The Devil’s Golf Course is a large salt pan in Death Valley National Park, with a rough surface formed of large salt crystals. It was named after a line in a 1934 National Park Service guide book to Death Valley, which stated that “only the devil could play golf” on its surface. Sold as a small size framed print to an unknown buyer In the holocene epoch, a lake covered the valley to a depth of 30 feet (9.1 m); the salt in Devil’s Golf Course consists of the minerals that were dissolved in the lake water and left behind as the lake evaporated. With an elevation several feet above the valley floor in Badwater, the Devil’s Golf Course remains dry, allowing weathering processes to sculpt the salt there into complicated forms. Through exploratory holes drilled by the Pacific Coast Borax Co. prior to Death Valley becoming a national monument in 1934, it was discovered that the salt and gravel beds of the Devil’s Golf Course extend to a depth of more than 1,000 feet (300 m), and later studies suggest that in places the depth ranges up to 9,000 feet (2,700 m). Devil’s Golf Course can be reached from Badwater Road via a 1.3-mile (2.1 km) gravel drive, closed in wet weather. It should not be confused with the actual golf course in Furnace Creek, also in Death Valley. I was on my way to photograph the other twin planet when out of nowhere came this gigantic comet heading right into it! I captured this shot and altered my course as fast as I could, and warped out of the galaxy. /
