This shot was taken with a Canon AE1 35mm camera about 15 years ago and scanned into the computer. Then I tweaked it a little in Photoshop Elements 5 High on top of Carn Brea (700 feet above sea level) you will find Carn Brea Castle which looks out at some stunning views of the surrounding countryside of Cornwall. Redruth, Brea, Carnkie and Camborne are a few of the towns near by. The Castle itself can be traced back to 1379. It is a stone twin towered fortress, built by the Bassett family and is inside the ramparts of the Iron Age hill fort. It was probably built has a hunting lodge, or as a chapel to St Michael. It has been restored and extended over the years, and today has the look of a modern folly, rather than a medieval fort. This is my favourite tree, a wind battered willow tree located on the banks of the River Stour between Flatford and Dedham in England, UK. This was taken about an hour after sunrise, just as the early morning mist was starting to burn off. Signed giclee art prints available at www.henroben.co.uk

March 2008 I’d pulled in to capture a picture of the Cooling Towers at the Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire but on the walk from the car I just couldn’t believe the sky I saw on the way past this field. Taken with a Nikon D40 and Nikon 18-55mm lens at 18mm

Fortunately there was a bus stop in the layby (see map above) that I could pull in to and stood up on the door frame of the car to see over the fence. Fortunately the clouds were just right as I was driving past.

This was taken near Clare, two hours north of Adelaide, South Australia, on New Year’s Eve. The colours depicted a hot summer and a perfect end to that year. The power lines drew my eye to the distance and in a sense to the future, and all that it held. This was taken using a Canon DSLR EOS 350D. This shot was featured in the Simple by Design Group.

I ride alone, lost in my thoughts, taking in the beautiful sights around me. Like a pillar of strength, you appear out of nowhere when I least expected it. Greener pastures on both sides of the fence. You’re shining light gives me hope that blue skies will prevail, and that the storm will just blow over. For I am travelling the long road home. 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! This shot features Loch Fyne in Argyll just before you reach the town of Inverarey in NW Scotland. / It was shot once again at the crack of dawn when even nature is just awakening. I dont often shoot a Landscape as a vertical and indeed I did shoot it both ways simply because the scene was a once in a lifetime moment. The sky was just glorious but I wanted some lead in with the foreground hence the format choice. I may post the ’ normal ’ view at a later time. Canon EOS 400D 18-80mm. AP mode with polariser. CS3 to complete.

Sutton Bank is a high vantage point at the very edge of the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors with extensive views over the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray. Because of its location and high elevation, Sutton Bank is popular with gliding and flying enthusiasts. Predominant landmarks include Whitestone Cliff and Roulston Scar, the former overlooking the mysterious (and reputedly bottomless !) Lake Gormire. Close nearby are the villages of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliff, and Kilburn (famous for the White Horse of Kilburn, and Robert Thompson – the “Mouseman” of Kilburn). / Sutton Bank is one of the most spectacular inland cliffs anywhere in Britain, and carries one of the most hair-raising main roads in the country. The near vertical drop from top to bottom is around 140 metres, and crosses at least two major geological boundaries. / The Sutton Bank National Park Centre is on the western edge of the fabulous North York Moors National Park – home to the largest expanse of heather moorland in England.
