Walking down from the summit of Mt Hotham on a day, I’d been watching this break in the cloud open and close as it moved across the horizon, some what a chance image. It existed for maybe 20 or 30 seconds before closing up again.
Mist drifts through the ghostly shapes of the snow gums frame the delicate pink alpine flowers.
Taken some years after the major fires through the victorian alps in 2003 dead and decaying snowgums like this can still be seen in all directions from the tops of most peaks. The fire burned so hot that in many areas these slow growing gums have not started to recover at all. I had a an image in mind like this before I went up to the Hight Country on this trip with a big storm and the white gums, I got my wish! My first attempt at a HDR image. Not a true one in the sense that i took multiple exposure shots… i made different exposure shots with my RAW converter…then put together with photomatrix… Was good fun! Not sure it is right but i think it looks ok???

A corolla winding its way down the Lake Mountain Road back towards Marysville in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges. Taken with my Canon 40D… finally! Processed in Adobe Photoshop CS and Lightroom 2. Sales 1 Matted Print Featured in the Transport group on the 15th of April 2009 On Saturday the 7th of February my family lost our home away from home at Marysville, as well as our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and our Abyssinian cat. My condolences go to anyone who also lost family, friends or property on this terrible weekend, and I know deep down that Marysville will be back and better than ever, in the near future… Click here for my other photos of cars! Pastel on Colourfix paper (burgundy) – 70cm x 50cm In this country (Australia) the trees lose their bark instead of their leaves! Weird eh? As the bark peels away it reveals beautiful patterns and exposes amazing colours in the trunks of many varieties of eucalypt. This is a Red Gum. I found this beautiful tree during a trip to the Howqua River, which is near Mansfield, Northern Victoria (a mountainous area known as the High Country) when my husband took me on a hair raising 4-wheel drive excursion into the bush! It is obviously a very ancient tree and I enjoyed this painting very much. Out for a drive yesterday I was stopped in my tracks by this wonderfully twisted tree. After spotting a couple of galahs I continued on, returning to catch the tree in the twilight. The more I look at it, the more it looks like an old man with a bad back… I suggest viewing larger. Featured in Country Victoria and A View somewhere….
