I don’t usually do IR shots with people or animals, but this horse was kind enough to stay still for me for 2 seconds. ......................................................................................................... My first attempt at a HDR image. Not a true one in the sense that i took multiple exposure shots… i made different exposure shots with my RAW converter…then put together with photomatrix… Was good fun! Not sure it is right but i think it looks ok???

When I first came to Redbubble, I only had a couple pieces to post. I always reduced the size of my photos before editing them(making them too small for here), just didn’t have a reason to keep them full size until Redbubble. Anyways, I threw this pic up, just so I had more than 2 posted. I didn’t really even like it. The original shot’s exposure was all kinds of screwed up. I edited so much, I was just plain sick of it. But like I said, it was a filler pic. I sooo did not expect the amount of attention it received, much less that it sold. I’ve actually grown to really like it too. So I thought I’d share this, and the original shot with everyone. So here it is: This piece was my very first sold piece. It was also chosen for the Featured Art Page (before group featuring), featured in A Photographer’s Craft group, and was a finalist in the May US Scenic Photo Contest. Country Relaxin’ EarIier this year, ventured up to Guanella Pass and onwards to the Ghost Town of Como, a literal timewarp that harks back to the wildwest, fully intact and persevered, few folks still live here. It is high up, probably close to 10,000 feet, and this winter has been VERY bad in the high country. In fact just last week they interviewed a resident of Como and she talked about how the town was totally cut off of supplies…which made me right away think of the horses there. I have photographed these horses the last 5 years now, and I always find them so friendly…not your typical horses, these are true and tried working horses…where Cowboys still exist and the west still lives. Upon entering Como, I was shocked at the snowbanks, over 20 feet high, and they were plowed out finally from a construction crew using Caterpillars. And low and behold, so was the feeding field for the horses….... :) I was happy they were ok, as I was quite concerned, as they have become kind of a good friend to me and my camera. Lost in Utah would have been a more apt title after the GPS affectionately known as “Dorothy” lead me to a graveyard instead of a lake lol. I discovered some gorgeous countryside along route. There is nothing better than getting lost :))

Nikon D40, 18-55mm Nikkor lens Thankfully we had dressed warm enough for a short excursion, even though we were headed for the theatre later in the day, but I forgot and put on an old pair of leather gloves that are really not winter appropriate. At one point, my fingers were freezing, mainly due to my taking my hands out of the gloves in order to work the camera, and Wanda, my friend, made me swap with her so that I could wear her warm woolen mittens in between shots. / Friendship is sharing mittens, that’s for sure! / The beauty of this walk left a big impression on me. We barely covered any distance because of the cold and our husbands waiting back at her home, but she wanted me to see what a wonderful area was here in her neighborhood for exploring, and we vowed to come back, dressed appropriately and armed with snowshoes to make the passage easier. This is Geronimo, my neighbor. Taken just behind the house last winter when we moved here from town. And WHAT a view! Although it was snowing when I took this, snow effects are added… as are Night Effects. I took this by daylight. Geronimo has since moved away but there are many other horses on the ranch.
