“The Road To Home” Ya know, sometimes I just sit in amazement when I am shooting and just look, gaze, and take it all in…..if photography has honestly taught me anything, it’s to see better, noticing things you normally wouldn’t even see. Case in point, this shot here. Most people probably just drive on by this place never giving it a second glance, but to me, it was something very special…...so special that I spent about 30 minutes here shooting it. Living in Colorado really has it’s benefits this time of the year…as Autumn sets in and the sun goes south, the light becomes so utterly magical, thanks to our elevation. It becomes so warm and saturated in the morning, that everything seems so alive….so gold. Captured on a rural backroad between Boulder and Lyons, the old road leading to cattle pastures I felt made a very worthy subject, especially considering the colors involved, the light, and the overall composition with the tree. Composite of multiple images of a derelict site in Eastern Washington. I wanted to use the images in some way, but it wasn’t until a model from ModelMeyhem offered to let me use this pic in one of my ‘creations’ that it came together. The descrepancy between her dress and manner….and the background just seemed to work to suggest an amusing anecdote…..Plus I love her posture….Thanks to Laura W for her image…...

Patiently waiting on a letter from you …. One of those, “Oh, I’m gonna have to stop the car and take this shot” kind of moments. I love how the two left-most trees almost form an arch. Incidently this road is called Covered Bridge Road and leads to Pennsylvania’s Oldest Covered Bridge built in 1830 RIP John. My art with 1000+ views

ARCHITECTURE IS WHERE YOU FIND IT / Architecture is to do with the designing of buildings and structures, but in its broader meaning it also includes the design of our complete built environment. It can be found in outback areas, on mountain peaks, almost anywhere on the land, even on the sea in the form of oil rigs and it surrounds us in our places of abode. We tend to take it for granted and complain when its appeareance doesn’t suit our taste. Architecture provides us with shelter, places to work, gives us points of reference in our urban wilderness, but most important of all, it provides a fundamental basis for the way we live. Architecture is ephemeral, can be a thing of great beauty, and its elements can be pillaged and used as building blocks by successive generations. Past civilizations are often known through their achievements in architecture and certain works have become cultural, political and artistic icons. Presumably a family once lived in this little house at Fernie, British Columbia. It now stands derelict and isolated, yet it seems to exist as a monument to the toil of hard working rural people anywhere. The image was captured during summer 2008 towards the end of a photographic journey through the Canadian Rockies. Thanks for taking the time to view my photos and feel free to comment. You are welcome to visit my photography website My most recent publication ‘ARCHITECTURE WITH CHARACTER’ includes images of this rural house. Click on image below for a preview.

This series of photo’s were taken at Hill End in NSW Australia. An extremely wonderful place and well worth the visit! I hope you enjoy them and thank you for looking. Taken with Canon Power shot pro 1 three different exposures, enhanced using Photomatix Pro before being tuned up in photshop, adding textures and brushing on some additional colour. / / / “Hill End has an intriguing history of boom, bust, abandonment and renewal, which has excited and prompted, visits from hopeful miners, speculators, artists and more, seeking fortunes in the striking landscape of the region”. – Gavin Wilson. In 1872, at the height of the gold mining boom, Hill End boasted a population of approximately 7500. It had more than a mile of shop frontages, 13 hotels, 6 churches, 4 schools, 2 newspapers, a brewery and a brickworks. Hill end was and still supports a popular artist community in years gone by including Russell Drysdale, Margaret Olley, Donald Friend Jeffery Smart and Brett Whiteley .The Hill End Artist in Residence Program began in 1994 and is now in its ninth season. The township of Hill End was made an Historic Site by the NSW Government in 1967 and the entire town brought under the management of the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
