Country Field A Unicorns Gift – By My Good Friend Roger Sampson , Check out his work if you can As a new day lay forging and camera in hand / She found herself seeking about once again / In search of green fields, wide reaching trees / Tumbling water, cascading gently to please / Misty aired meadows, clouds kissing blue sky / Colour hues dancing in each scene passed by / She walks sylvan paths hoping for rapture / Looking for splendor her eyes there to capture Along a path she spied, just off to the side / Another small way as if trying to hide / Something was calling, ‘to me, this way take’ / She felt its promise, so soothing it spake / Following its windings past shadows of trees / A whisper heard passing on the Autumn breeze / Stepping from wooded edge her heart was amazed / A sight never witnessed, in awe she just gazed A lovely green field now holding her view / On it soft dusting’s small red leaves wind blew / To its left the forest, curving miles it seemed / Beauty like this, only wondered and dreamed / The sun shown more softer in sky where it’s kept / So magical this place, she sighed and she wept / Then suddenly a movement from behind an oak / A thought she heard, but no voice heard spoke She crouched in silence, her heart quickly danced / For out from the forest a unicorn pranced / Snow white and regal with long flowing mane / He stopped in his trot to view his domain / He studied and looked, then glanced her way / as if to say, enjoy, it’s your place for the day / She reached for her camera but then off he flew / No one else would see now, of that which she knew She walked in the field saddened of what lost / She sat and pondered, her camera she tossed / ‘Was the unicorns gift’, she felt so ashamed / Then a calming indwelled her, minds eye it framed / Looking once more at this magical place / Brought sudden peace, a warmth, a smiling face / ‘It was his kingdom given to capture this day / Not him the subject, of my camera’s play’
When I first came to Redbubble, I only had a couple pieces to post. I always reduced the size of my photos before editing them(making them too small for here), just didn’t have a reason to keep them full size until Redbubble. Anyways, I threw this pic up, just so I had more than 2 posted. I didn’t really even like it. The original shot’s exposure was all kinds of screwed up. I edited so much, I was just plain sick of it. But like I said, it was a filler pic. I sooo did not expect the amount of attention it received, much less that it sold. I’ve actually grown to really like it too. So I thought I’d share this, and the original shot with everyone. So here it is: This piece was my very first sold piece. It was also chosen for the Featured Art Page (before group featuring), featured in A Photographer’s Craft group, and was a finalist in the May US Scenic Photo Contest. I created this work in PhotoPlus 6 for air-brushing, smudging, colouring, brightness/contrast and sizing. I use the mouse with the smudge tool to move the colours around and into the shapes desired as I don’t have a Wacom tablet. New American Landscape Gargoyles ugly, dark, and looming; / Overlook the erstwhile blooming landscape, / desolate now, but fresh in memory. Giants in the garden Eden. Gothic, no, Americana, barely eaten; / Taken by surprise and sorely beaten shed / no tear, for fear of giants. Giants in the garden Eden. Whilst whole countries stand by watching; / Giants o’er their landscape trodding, claiming / grain and livestock pools from nature. Giants shade the garden Eden. A single voice wails mad with fury; / Counts backwards, bent, and bleary-eyed; / And yells, “You don’t own nature”! Giants left the garden Eden. / - F.A. Friendship is the most astonishing, inspiring phenomenon! It can sprout from anywhere, often between the most improbable candidates, and it unites beings from any world. Friendship knows absolutely no boundaries! After discussing it with a RB friend, I decided to try another version of this composite, using a different background (a photo of St-Lawrence river in my hometown). The background in the first version made the image look a bit too stiff and artificial, with shadows all in the wrong places. What’s more, I had used the low resolution JPEG of the horse and dog in the first version, whereas I worked with the RAW file in the the second one. Thank you George for your great advice and continuous support! Digital fine art photo painting of a little country girl admiring the beauty of a single bloom in a wildflower field. Featured in Digital Brushstrokes, October 9, 2009. This digital art consists of 4 layered images from my personal library, including one texture layer. The little girl’s hair was created from scratch and then the entire piece was digitally painted in Corel Painter X using a Wacom tablet prior to adding additional texture & a subtle posterizing filter in Photoshop. / / Original pencil drawing on Aquarelle Arches paper 56×76cm / Drawing 15 hours/painting 12 hours = 27 hours total A digitally painted hand drawn artwork… the inspiration for this is “Meeting Places”... As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
