  • A nice little cottage, nestled between autumn trees.

  • Field Maple.

  • Gouache on Paper. In 1984 I started my Textile design studies In Shenkar College, Israel.I had almost none basic knowledge in REAL Drawing or painting…just the STRONG wish to create, to paint and design . At that time only 17 students were selected each year to study in the textile design department, I was one of them, that means the committee who selected me found I had the talent to study there. The base for design is drawing & painting …Not every designer though can really paint or draw..The first week of my studies, one of my lecturer, Bram presented our first project with him – ” THE PROJECT “( of course we had several more with other lecturers )... As I saw the year before’s projects of students, not only that I was amazed by their work…I said to myself : – ).. ” Nira I think they made a mistake by selecting you to learn here :-) ”...Undoubtedly I was not the only one who felt this way.The demands for perfection were very STRONG.I was doing my efforts 7 days a week, until 2:30 a.m usually and there were few nights that I simply didn’t go to sleep. Here You can view part of Bram’s project, which was to copy a photo in gouache and then to draw or paint the same photo using all kinds of techniques : like pencils coloured pencils ,Ink, and more . It was Bram but other lecturers as well who taught me to demand THE VERY BEST of myself. when the first semester of my studies finished, I had to present also this project . That same day when we ALL Students hanged our projects on the walls…Bram said to us : ” You thought you would not be able to do so at the end of semester, but in fact you did…From now on…everything you wish to do in your life, you know you can. ” I will never forgot these words, especially because it came after that project,I didn’t believe I could do…It become one of the most important lessons of my life. True that sometimes I use it more in my thinking…and at other times less…But it is so very true…We say in Hebrew :” En davar ha’omed bifney haratson ” = where there is a will there is a way, nothing is impossible. This image is dedicated to Bram Veiler our dutch lecturer then…Copyrights© Nira Dabush

  • Watercolour on coldpressed watercolour paper of a cottage in the Australian bush, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What a lovely place to retire to. • A compilation of 7 images, mainly from the stunning area around Beddgelert in the Snowdonia National park, Wales, UK. / I thought that I’d try and tug at a few emotions with this one …..... when out walking you always hear the lambs calling thier mums when they manage to wander off and get seperated …..... Software ~ Adobe Photoshop CS3 Tutorial for the DigitalArt Compilations group I opened the seven images that I intended using. / I chose my background image. / Using the lasso tool, I selected an area off another image and then dragged it onto the background layer using the move tool. / Once it was in position I then added a layer mask to it, after selecting a soft brush and picking black I brushed out any unwanted areas of the dragged image. / I repeated the process with the remaining images. / Everytime you drag an image on, photoshop creates a new layer and to ensure each image tied in, I adjusted the levels for every one. / Once I had all of the components in place, I merged all visible layers. / I then duplicated the layer. / Now it was time for the dodging, burning, curves, unsharp mask and render filter. / Finally merge visible layers and save . / Copyright 2008 Richie Dean VISIT MY WEBSITE .

  • Cottages at the end of a lane in Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. High in the Lowther Hills to the west of the M74, Wanlockhead is Scotland’s highest village at 467m (1531 ft). It owes its existence to the lead, gold and other minerals found under the surrounding countryside. These mineral deposits were probably first exploited by the Romans and from the 1200s they were being worked again by groups of miners who gathered here each summer. The first permanent settlement appeared in about 1680, when the Duke of Buccleuch built a lead smelting plant and workers’ cottages that could be occupied all year round. Although lead was for many centuries the mainstay of the village’s economy, it was not the only mineral found here. What became known as “God’s Treasure House” also produced zinc, copper, silver and gold. Some of the world’s purest gold, at 22.8 carats, was found locally and used in the Regalia of the Scottish Crown. Today’s Wanlockhead depends primarily on tourism. The Southern Upland Way long distance footpath passes through the village, but the main attraction for the motoring tourist revolves around the village’s industrial past. Information from Undiscovered Scotland. Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA) / Exif data from the JPG / F-stop f/5.6 / Exp. time 1/125 sec (not even remotely accurate considering this is an HDR image) / ISO 200 / Focal length 51 mm BEST VIEWED LARGER Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. • Suisinish is an abandoned village reached after a rough hour- long walk from Kilbride, near Torrin, Isle of Skye. / This old cottage is too modern to have been one of the dwellings where the folk were evicted to make way for the sheep, which were more profitable to the greedy landowners of the time. Many of the families were separated, and forced to emigrate to America, Canada, and Australia. / I cannot begin to feel their anguish. / There are many ruins scattered around the Brae (hillside), evidence of a thriving, close-knit community torn apart by human greed. Maybe this bulding was built early in the twentieth century, I have no idea and can find no information. / Back to the present….. / There was quite a wait for some usable light, a chilly fierce wind was blowing, rain was brewing, nothing new ! We sat in the shelter of one of those deserted ruins, eating a cheese piece, ( sandwich ) and a cheering cup of hot coffee from the thermos, reflecting on how ‘they’ lived then, compared to us nowadays, and watching the sheep that are now the only inhabitants of this beautiful place. / Rowan trees were planted in the belief they kept evil spirits away, and it is considered very bad luck to cut one down, even today ! This cottage is surrounded by them, I guess the magic didn’t work. A three shot HDR. CanonEOS 40D mounted on tripod, iso 100, auto wb, f22, RAW files converted in Photomatix, and touched up in Adobe CS3. / A little Orton also applied to ‘pop’ the texture of the stone. / A slight vignette added. • This is the Isle of Skye at it’s best, when there is a lot of colour in the landcsape, with the low sun we get this far North at this time of year, accentuating every detail. / This is the crofting community of Tarskavaig, with the glorious backdrop of the Cuillin Hills. / “Crofting” is small time farming, or “smallholding” where a few crops might be grown, and a small number of cattle or sheep kept. A single RAW file, shot on my Canon EOS 50D , polariser filter, f25, 1/2 sec, underexposed by 2/3 stop, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Adobe CR, then in CS3.
