Cormorants are commonly seen along the south coast of British Columbia during the winter months. This bird is part a large flock fishing the area of the Fraser River near its mouth. The birds are catching salt water fish that enter the river for its rich nutrients. The snow certainly did not deter this bird from catching a rather large flat fish. Nikon D300, Nikkor f4 600 mm lens, ISO 640, f4, 1/640s.
My first image upload. This image was taken in Florida keys i was able to get quite close without spooking it. Shot with a 300mm lens/Canon 1D.

I loved the greenish eye with the blue dotted ring surrounding it in strong contrast to the black of the bird. This shot was taken with a Nikon D70s @ 200mm F10 1/60s ISO 200.

Introducing the Double-headed, Double-crested Cormorant!! ok… It’s really two Cormorants… Took this shot yesterday, with hubby driving me around in the skiff – it’s so much easier for me to shoot when he’s doing the driving! It is cropped… I know some of the highlights are blown but it was just toooooo cool to let that stop me from posting it. / October 19, 2009 / D200 80-400mm Lens / 1/320 f/5.6 0 EV ISO 200 / Manual exposure / Spot metering / Manfrotto Tripod (set up in the skiff)
Nikon D70s; Sigma 50-500mm lens; f/6.3; 1/1000sec; 500mm focal length; PSE This haggard little Cormorant was just waking up as I snapped him, looking a little worse for the wear..Let me tell you that I have been waiting and waiting to get a decent shot of one of our local Cormorants, which are of a smallish variety, and I kinda like this one, and hope you like it too. If you scroll down, you will see who he’s waking up with… Here is a version of the track I intended with this shot, unfortunately not my first choice, which was not enabled for embedding here.
