I’d like to take this opportunity to announce my plans for huge project. This will be, by far, the biggest piece I’ve ever done and I expect it to take several months. I’ll be working on it in between smaller projects. I’m posting this now because if people know about it, I’ll be more motivated to work on it. I’m quite excited about it, actually. The scene will be an underwater coral reef. I’ll do it in colored pencil on 30”x15” paper. I have done extensive research on various types of coral, fish and other sea life that live in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, and have put together a scene with a many of these animals with a great variety of color. The layout is complete, and I’ve just started adding color. I will be keeping updates on my blog and will post updated images here as well. Step 1: Research, Sketch and Layout (4 hours) Step 2: Giant Sea Clam (8 hours) / Step 3: Yellow Damselfish, Longfin Bannerfish and Red Soft Coral (5.5 hours) / Step 4: Red and Blue Sea Stars, Leather Coral and Purple Soft Coral (8 hours, added 06/18/08) / Step 5: Hard Coral and Pink Soft Coral (6 hours, added 07/15/08) / Step 6: Green Sea Fan, start of Red Lionfish (2 hours, added 08/30/08) / Step 7: Orange Sea Whip, Green Hard Coral, Clown Triggerfish (2 hours, added 01/07/09) / Step 8: Red Lionfish, Brain Coral, Sea Anemones, Orange Fairy Basslets (added 05/13/09) / Step 9: Plate Coral, Staghorn Coral, Manta Rays (added 05/21/09) /

CORAL SEA DREAMING HD will have it’s world premiere at this years Underwater festival UF09 which is to be hosted at Byron Bay, Australia. Join me there, at this fab event, Sat 2nd May, and introduce yourself to me if i don’t know who you are. / details 8 years in the making, Coral Sea Dreaming HD brings together the world-class cinematography of Emmy Award Winner, David Hannan, with an original musical score by Australian composer Tania Rose. Shot on State-of-the-Art High Definition technology, it chronicles over 2000 dives on the last three great coral reef ecosystems on earth: the Great Barrier Reef, Ningaloo Reef, and Papua New Guinea Over 84 extraordinary minutes, Coral Sea Dreaming HD enters the very heart of life – and death – on a coral reef. Amongst the thousands of marine creatures represented, there are courting manta rays, oceanic sharks, turtles, cuttlefish, alien sea slugs, and massive fish schools reminiscent of a bygone age I’m stoked that it’s finally arrived!!

  • Federation Square Screening

/ BRAG TIME! / if you’re in Melbourne, you can go to Federation Square and watch a film called CORAL SEA DREAMING 2, an epic undersea film of magnificent cinematography by Australia’s own Emmy Award-winner David Hannan and music by yours truly, Tania Rose. This film is an extraordinary visual feast, and is probably the last we will see of much of the marine life of the coral reefs, as the reefs around the globe are as we speak becoming extinct :(. David is the world leader of undersea cinematography and provides a lot of footage for marine scientists and their studies. Shot in Hi-Definition, Coral Sea Dreaming 2 is a collection of his best work. It is indeed both an honour and a privilege to be involved in this project, on many levels, not least of which is the fact that this is both a celebration and a tribute to something the Earth is losing with dire consequences. The earth is precious…more precious than ourselves

It’s amazing how a brainstorming session can result in…well, RESULTS! / We threw around an idea to have the CORAL SEA DREAMING 2 film screened at FEDERATION SQUARE in Melbourne…and here it is Cinematography – David Hannan / Music – Tania Rose / Pics by Peter Simon, who also played a big part in the film…thanks Pete / go see it if you’re in Melbourne. I have been working on my website now for five months and I am thrilled with its progress. I would like to share with you the development of both my photography and the growth the my passion towards digital art and photography. Growing up I was always one for exploring, I always enjoyed the outdoors sometimes it got me in to trouble as I tended to wonder beyond the areas that I was allowed to play. But soon as I become old enough to venture further I took full advantage of it. / As a child I grew up with computers so I have always been quite ‘techy’ I used to draw quite a lot too which developed my creativity. It also allowed me to collect my thoughts and calm down, drawing seemed to set me free, I really enjoyed doing it and still do. It was not until I managed to get a copy of Deluxe Paint 3 for my Amiga 500 that I began to create art digitally. I enjoyed dabbling and learning new techniques, my pictures where never very good but I was hooked. It was not until we managed to get a PC that we embarked on Coral Draw, this was a huge leap from Deluxe Paint. I remember that it came with a huge book full of clipart that were identified by codes and symbols. The Clipart allowed me to create images that were no longer amateur looking but had some substance, they were inspiring at last. I used Coral Draw for much of my home work whilst at school, any posters that we had to create or stories that we needed to write up, even science projects. Mine where full of illustrations and clip art from Coral. I enjoyed this program very much however all good things come to an end and the PC came to the end of its life. It had been upgraded as much as it could have been. A new one was needed, money had to be saved as a PC was not a cheap affair. Luckily for me I had two brothers and a father that liked spending money (sometimes money he did not have) but living with three males that also liked having a PC to use it was not long before we had an up to date machine. The next program I got my hands on was Paint Shop Pro, I really enjoyed this program above all the others, although it put me back in to creative mode as did Deluxe Paint. I began creating images from scratch again. Paint Shop Pro had a great brush effect that allowed me to paint using objects such as flowers, trees, shoes – anything. I had lots of fun with this. Using programs such as the ones mentioned I have managed to learn a lot about digital art and indeed presentation. However I am always inspired by other peoples work and ideas – I just love it all.

  • The Lover Island -- Wuzhizhou Coral Island
    by bashila

/ _Also known by the name “Lover’s Island,”...

/ Also known by the name “Lover’s Island,” Wuzhizhou Island is truly a mini paradise for lovers because of its beautiful scenery, tranquil surroundings, abundant plant life, dense forests and green hills Lying in Haitang Bay, Wuzhizhou Coral Island is 30 kilometers away from the center of Sanya and 38 kilometers away from Sanya Phoenix International Airport. Wuzhizhou Island has an irregular shape like a butterfly covering a land area of 1.48 square kilometers. It is home to more than 2,000 varieties of plant. Here, you can also enjoy a variety of water sports, including excellent fishing. Wuzhizhou Island is also known by the name Lover’s Island due to a beautiful legend. One day a young fisherman met a pretty girl on the island. They fell in love and decided to meet there every day. The girl was the daughter of the Dragon King, who learnt of their love affair and put her in a locked house. Ultimately the girl managed to escape and ran out to meet her sweetheart. The Dragon King got extremely angry and used his magic to turn the lovers into two big stones on the island. Since then the place has become something of a Mecca for Lovers. The Island is in irregular shape like a butterfly covering a land area of 1.48 square kilometers. Its length along the west-east orientation is 1500 meters and its width along the north-south direction is 1100 meters. Total coastline length of Wuzhizhou Island is 5.7 Km and the southern peak has an altitude of 79.9 meters. 85 families or 2700 species aboriginal plants pervade over hills and dales in the east, west and south of the Island. Local vegetations include tall and lofty arbors and flourishing and low shrubs, both of which you may encounter anywhere. And you may even take a chance to meet with some exotic flowers and trees for instance alsophila spinulosa, one of the dominant foods for those dinosaurs in ancient times, and dracaena draco, the oldest plant remained so far around the world and thus titled as “ the king of longevity under the sun” and also botanic landscapes created by some types of parasitical plants and strangling plants prevailing in tropical zone.Jagged rocks soar loftily into the sky and fall vertically across the sea. Stormy sea beats the shore and provides a splendid sight. Winding center wood and undulated grassland appears like a dancing girl in green. Calm and tranquil beach lies in the north and contains pure white and fine sands as if a jade from God. The Island is known locally as an example of all that was perfect about Hainan Island—Sanya – white beaches, sunshine, various tropical plants and varied sea life. It offers clear blue water with visibility down to 18 metres and colorful coral reefs. The main attractions include Goddess Mazu Temple, Lover’s Bridge, Sunrise Rock, and Gold Turtle Stretching forward to the Sea, Lover’s Island and “Life Well.” Interested to know more about this? / Come join these tour now!! ; / Ticket & Hotel Only Package: 5 Days Sanya Adventure / Ticket & Hotel Only Package: 5 Days Sanya Cruise
