  • Emily again (shes too gorgeous not to use as a model) in a small shoot where we had to attempt to copy other photographer’s portrait styles. This one is a copy of Jill Greenberg’s work.

  • My rendition of the famous painting by Spanish artist Diego Velazquez painted in my early twenties. / The original painting was intended as a study in preparation for his masterpiece ‘Pope Innocent X’. / Juan de Pareja was actually a slave of Morrocan decent, a notable artist in his own right, and assisted Velazquez in his work. / This painting 55×65cm, oil on paper on masonite.

  • Of course, this is not original art. It’s a copy, and I even can’t recall the source. May be it was “The Book Of Five Rings” or another ancient japanese treatise. But to my great surprise this watercolor / ink work has become one of the most important for me…

  • It is odd sometimes where inspiration is derived from… / I read a Journal from HeadCrime / http://www.redbubble.com/people/headcrime/journal/1547705-part-1-crime-against-my-copyright / People with no talent and no ideas who blatantly steal the work of others and even have the audacity to call it there own. Work that in some cases may have taken the original artist weeks to complete. It is bad enough that someone should steal our ideas producing poor facsimiles with no credit being given to their inspiration artist living or dead. / Thus I began thinking about copying myself and as usual the work dicated to me its end result. / . / I hope you like it. / . / I also hope you can offer your support to Kurt. If he provides the url of the offender we must mass object to their actions. / Thanks for listening. / . / . / View large

I was recently asked how I make my watermark on my images so I thought this may come in handy for others too. Remember though, that this is just my method. there may be other ways out there too. In a steps process of making a custom watermarking brush and then watermarking an image with it. (this is all done in photoshop) / Say you have your image, all ready… 1. Make a new layer on top of the image you want to add the watermark to, 2. Open a new page to make a brush on, 3. Get the text box and choose a nice neat font, 4. Type ’ © ’ (hot keys = press and hold down the ALT key while typing in 0169) / and your first and last name or business name, / then 5. Flatten that layer, customize that with a logo, an underscore above it for titles to sit on, etc, 6. Flatten all that when you’re done customizing it all, 7. Select the space it occupies tightly, / then go 8. Edit>Define Brush and save it as a brush in your photoshop. / then 9. Go to the image, get the paintbrush tool on 100% opacity, and on the new layer that on your image, put the copyright in the corner or wherever you want it, Option: Maybe add the title of the image with the text tool, / now flatten the title into the copyright by going Layer>merge down / and then 10. Right click on the copyright layer, go Blending options and make the layer less intrusive on the image, 11. Flatten all the layers, save it. / (i save the copyright version of each image separate so i can sell prints without the copyright on it at all if requested)

  • WILD & FREE Duma – the Swahili name for cheetah, can weigh between 110 to 140 pounds and have a lifespan of between 10 to 20 years. (Masai Mara – Kenya) / / Listed as ‘Vulnerable’ in 2008 / / The known cheetah population is approximately 7,500 adult animals. Additional areas where cheetah status is poorly known are unlikely to raise the total to over 10,000. Given Myers (1975) estimate of 15,000 cheetahs in Africa in the 1970s, a decline of at least 30% is suspected over the past 18 years (3 generations). The decline is primarily due to habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as killing and capture of cheetahs as livestock depredators, primarily, as well as for trade (IUCN Cats Red List Workshop 2007). • borrowing an idea: where is the line?

You may not know this about me, but I’m an insane Tim Walker fan. If you don’t know who Tim Walker is, I’m afraid we can’t be friends anymore. It is imperative that you seek out his work and drool while uttering three syllable adjectives to describe how wonderful it is. Now that we’re better acquainted, I’d like to draw your eyes to exhibit A: / Tim Walker’s ‘Lisa Cant with 80 White Rabbits’ originally commissioned by Vogue, and published in his book from last year entitled Pictures. And now I’d like to present for you, exhibit B: / The Dotti commercial from this month’s Cosmopolitan Now, I know what you’re thinking – they are nothing alike. Look, in the second one the girl is wearing a hat. Totally different. However, I do not agree with you. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this is a direct copy off of an awesome idea. And unless they have hired Tim Walker to shoot the Dotti commercial and he decided to rehash his own idea (Sorry Tim, but I wouldn’t love you as much anymore), then someone else has forgotten their imagination at the door. I can appreciate a homage to a great talent, I can appreciate that inspiration comes from all around, and I believe that no idea is truly original (that we merely rehash a concoction of our lives experiences). But where is the line? Where do we stop saying “this was inspired by” and start saying “this is a copy of”?

  • The first of a new series called Period Faces starts today…more than likely they will probably be based on old masters, and as that is painstaking detailed work, especially working from small images on the net, they will be fewer in number than the previous collection, “Significant Faces”... / I joined the group From Masterpiece a year ago and have yet to submit, so I thought this would be a good opportunity… / Ghirlandaio was an apprentice to Michelangelo and between 1481-82, he worked in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican with Botticelli and others. The Medici family gave him only one commission and there were no other commissions from any other well known patron. With relatives and, in particular, his brother Davide (1452-1525) he ran a big and successful studio. He preferred fresco to tempera, and never attempted oil painting..Wiki…. / I painted my version in acrylic on canvas…I did not attempt a slavish imitation, but gave her a slightly more modern edge, by making her hair less structured and simplifying her jewellery and dress…I also made her a redhead, because I love red hair..See original below / / Acrylic on Canvas… See my other collection “Significant Faces” HERE
