  • Color Coordinated
    by Blair Wainman

    US$3.99–US$91.20

“Color Coordinated” was featured in the group Freedom to Shine in March 2009 As I was sitting near this tree this afternoon, I heard this cracking sound and as I looked up, there was this Rosebreasted Grosbeak opening up the seedpods and eating the seeds…sortta sounded like someone eating sunflower seeds!! And he just sat there and let me take his picture…several times…as he was rummaging through the tree. He’s a migratory bird and hasn’t changed his winter plumage for his new spring wardrobe but he’s in the process of changing. Don’t know if he’s waiting for it to change before heading north! / This was taken in the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, Bogotá, Colombia

  • Color Coordinated Spider
    by Lois Bryan

    US$4.83–US$110.20

. / . / Featured in Arachnids October 29, 2008. Found this adorable little cutie playing among the black-eyed-susans in my garden one morning. I’d seen spiders like this before, but they were all white. This amazing golden color is not a trick of Photoshop!! Image taken 9/8/08 with the Nikon D40x, using the 70-300mm VR in Montgomery County, Maryland. Post processing includes very minor use of levels and removal of some distractions. From Wikipedia: / “Misumena vatia is a species of crab spider with holarctic distribution. In North America, where it is the largest and best-known flower spider, it is called the goldenrod crab spider, because it is commonly found hunting in goldenrod sprays in the autumn. / Young males in the early summer may be quite small and easily overlooked, but females can grow up to 10 mm (without legs); males reach 5 mm at most. / These spiders may be yellow or white, depending on the flower in which they are hunting. Especially younger females, which may hunt on a variety of flowers such as daisies and sunflowers, may change color “at will”. Older females require large amounts of relatively large prey to produce the best possible clutch of eggs. They are therefore, in North America, most commonly found in goldenrod (Solidago sp.), a bright yellow flower which attracts large numbers of insects, especially in autumn. It is often very hard even for a searching human to recognize one of these spiders on a yellow flower.” ... up close and personal: /

Oh and by the way the third craft was a Earth Corp freighter carrying water back to some very dry parts of Earth. / This visual was despatched some twelve Earth years ago and has only been cleared. Revisiting the macro polar planet idea. This time with a lovely old roller shutter… I’d like to try a whole series of roller shutter planets, as I noticed the two I’ve made so far merge into each other beautifully when viewed in a Microsoft Slideshow. It could almost become a little art fillum if I had enough images…

This original shot is of the Las Vegas strip from the viewpoint of the observations deck on the 1/2 scale Paris Hotel’s Eiffel Tower.
