  • Once was a Station....
    by Steve Chapple

    US$4.99–US$114.00

The platform of the old Coonawarra railway Station. Overgrown and disused but still bearing the hallmark name of the region. For those few of you who have never heard of Coonawarra it is THE premium red wine region of Australia. Blood red soil over limestone in perfect growing climate. Near Penola in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Cannon 400D, 3 shot HDR 18/55 converted to B&W in CS3.

  • Sunset silhouette of bronze statues of Stallions Rampant at Rymill Coonawarra Winery. The two magnificent bronze stallions rampant, created by the noted sculptor Gabriel Sterk, welcome visitors to the Rymill Coonawarra Winery. Such horses have long been important to the Rymill family, and were an integral part of their business for a number of generations. Coonawarra’s terra rossa soil, with its high calcium content, raised horses with strong bones and powerful constitutions long before it became famous for the excellence of its vineyards and wines. Gabriel Sterk’s life and career have alternated between Europe and Australia. Born in Holland in 1942, he emigrated to Adelaide with his family in 1958, but his developing career and talent soon drew him back to the art treasures of Europe; first of all to Italy, and then to the Royal Academy in Holland. He now lives in France, where he sculpted the original of the stallions rampant in clay, prior to their being cast in bronze at a foundry in Holland, and then shipped to Australia where they now stand proudly before the winery, evoking the past and eliciting the future. Canon 400D – 18 -55 lens with CIR Polariser. Photoshop Cs3 for contrast.

  • click on feature button to view group — This is the now defunct Coonawarra train station … i.e. the village of Coonawarra in the middle of the famous wine region of the same name in South Australia. I took it while travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide in late December 2008 … we were down the road at the Wynns winery (tasting wine of course) and saw pictures of the station. We were pointed in the direction (it’s only about 1km off the main highway) and I tried a few different angles. (Taken with my NEW Nikon D90 DSLR – Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. UPDATED PIC: Minor editing with levels and curves). — / Other wine shots taken in South Australia / click on images to view / — N.B. The feature logo was prepared by me but inspired by a design originally done by Natalie Perkins

  • Created to promote the Coonawarra arts festival in South Australia. Thi poster has borrowed from the art deco era, and has tried to meld it with an abstract representation of all the elements that go into the Coonawarra festival.
