I used to go to a disco in this street many moons ago. I wondered whether it was through that doorway and downstairs to the basement. I remember seeing Stevie Wright’s band play there. Maybe someone could enlighten me on where it was. The street has changed so much over the years but was always interesting. I remember a great cake shop with Viennese style cakes and a place that I could buy vegetarian food-that was in the late sixties-for those who remember. ha ha ha! Later CAE art classes with Mirka Mora when I took my son to ‘cause he didn’t want to go to school that day. I’m sure he learned more there that day than he would have at school. My mother and grandmother (and I suppose great-grandmother) always had a love of the little lanes and streets of Melbourne and we would always walk up Degraves street and cross Flinders Lane meander through Block Arcade on our way to the ‘must see’ Royal Arcade to look at Gog and Magog with the clock. Then off the gallery that used to be housed along with the museum in the State Library of Victoria building. Yesterday to continue that tradition I took my grandaughter through these streets and then we went to the galleries at Fed Square and then St Kilda road. At 3 and a half – she loved those places as I’ve no doubt that Melbourne is singing in her blood. The family has been here since 1856! Looks like we are here to stay!!!

This is a great poster for kids or a nice card to give when they lose their first tooth!!! A visit from the tooth fairy is always very very welcome!!! :) Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

I picked out these roses for my father to give my mother for Valentine’s Day. They’re such a deep red color and the petals are velvety…almost black. I love those type of roses. I used a really low white balance when I shot this to give it a more bluish tone. Enjoy!

‘Cryptic Question’ It’s not / ...how?... / ...when?... / ...where?... / ...who?... / ...what?... The cryptic question / is / simply “why?” SBricker 2009 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Question – The Moody Blues at Royal Albert Hall, 2008 (written by Justin Hayward) Why do we never get an answer / When we’re knocking at the door / With a thousand million questions / About hate and death and war? / ‘Cos when we stop and look around us, / There is nothing that we need, / In a world of persecution / That is burning in its greed. Why do we never get an answer / When we’re knocking at the door / Because the truth is hard to swallow / That’s what the war of love is for It’s not the way that you say it / When you do those things to me / It’s more the way that you mean it / When you tell me what will be And when you stop and think about it / You won’t believe it’s true / That all the love you’ve been giving / Has all been meant for you. I’m looking for someone to change my life, / I’m looking for a miracle in my life / And if you could see what it’s done to me, / To lose the love I knew / Could safely lead me through. Between the silence of the mountains, / And the crashing of the sea, / There lies a land I once lived in, / And she’s waiting there for me, / But in the grey of the morning, / My mind becomes confused, / Between the dead and the sleeping, / And the road that I must choose. I’m looking for someone to change my life, / I’m looking for a miracle in my life / And if you could see what it’s done to me, / To lose the love I knew, / Could safely lead me to / The land that I once knew, / To learn as we grow old / The secrets of our soul. It’s not the way that you say it / When you do those things to me / It’s more the way you really mean it / When you tell me what will be Why do we never get an answer / When we’re knocking at the door / With a thousand million questions / About hate and death and war? / ‘Cos when we stop and look around us, / There is nothing that we need, / In a world of persecution / That is burning in its greed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ / ”...And if you could see what it’s done to me, / To lose the love I knew, / Could safely lead me to / The land that I once knew, / To learn as we grow old / The secrets of our soul…..” / ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apophysis 2.08 – 7200×9000px thanks for the look, my friends! It was snowing heavily in late evening upon our arrival in St Johann, Austria. This lovely lone tree was full of snow and went straight into my must photograph journal, I decided to wait till morning to get the best light. The only thing that stopped my planned photograph, the morning rain. Although this shot was not what I was intending I am happy with the result as the mist did help in isolating the tree. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/11, 1/400 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. A massive amount of dust and hair removed in photoshop, where had my camera been and OMG, how do I stop the sensor getting that dirty? This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
I’m so glad every now and then it snows heavily in England. I rushed out looking for potential spots to photograph, I took this one in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, UK. Photographed from the car as that was the only place I could see to get the shot between the hedges without falling in a ditch. Plus it was cold and I’d rushed out of the house without a jumper. BGB Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/14, 1/200 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. I just had the sensor cleaned to this is straight form the camera. This is a drive by shooting. On a coach to St. Johann, Austria, the coach driver was tearing around the smallest hair pin turns on tiny Alpine roads as if he was late for some dumpling festival. I had the camera out just in case we crashed and took this photo while waiting for the crunch. Luckily that never happened. I hope you like it. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 35mm, f/3.5, 1/1600 sec, ISO 1600. No filters used. A death speed coach window in the way. I evened out the chrome abs because of the high iso. Due to the amazing amount of comments I have had from Solitude I thought I’d share this shot. I couldn’t help myself, I had to walk up to the tree, hence the footprints in the virgin snow, although retracing my footprints to take the photograph was very difficult. This shot was taken in St Johann, Austria. I hope you like it. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/11, 1/400 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. I’m so glad every now and then it snows heavily in England. Just after stuffing the car into a ditch, through expert test driving on ice, ahem, actually practicing handbrake turns, oops. While deciding how to dig the car out on the ditch in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, UK, I noticed these lovely trees. / It was a fair old way into the middle of the field to get the right perspective but I’m glad I did. / I hope you like it. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 57mm, f/9, 1/400 sec, ISO 400. No filters used. Dust and scratches removed in PS. This shot was taken in St Johann, Austria, just after I shot Solitude. The light was magical that day, although the temperature was below freezing. A welcome stop in a local cafe awaited for a Hot Chocolate with lashings of whipped cream. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/14, 1/200 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. A massive amount of dust and hair removed in photoshop. I’m so glad every now and then it snows heavily in England. I rushed out looking for potential spots to photograph, I took this one in Mentmore, Bedfordshire, UK. I’m not sure I should have been there as it looked like a private golf club. There were keen golfers ready and willing to play with their orange balls and stern looks, probably due to my entrance – as I didn’t get onto the grounds the traditional way – I hoped they didn’t mind too much as I scampered back to the car. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 52mm, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. A nice sturdy but ice covered tripod. A keen sense of fun. A slight touchup job in CS4. This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
This is the background to the composite picture I called “Morrow”. This shot was taken in Woburn, Bedfordshire, UK. I took a few shots, some empty then a few of myself walking (actually running and counting) down the path. I was quite glad no one was around as it must have looked a sight. Sprint-Count-Stop-Pose-Jog back and repeat. I hope you like it, sans figures. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 24mm, f/8, 1/80 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. A slight touchup job in CS4. This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
Flash gun mayhem in Eaton Bray Bedfordshire, UK. I have never taken pictures of snow with a flash gun before and I wasn’t sure of the effect. This is the result. A fun crimbo card for all. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 62mm, f/11, 1/250 sec, ISO 100. A small amount of dust and scratches removed in photoshop. © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
After a few miss timed shots, I was amazed at how straight forward photographing popping water balloons were. I only got wet once. Although I couldn’t see them, I could hear my neighbours laughing when I spent 30 minutes jumping up and down to get the right body and clothing shape. The rest is lots of fiddling in photoshop. I hope you like it. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / All shots were taken with a Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 57mm, f/16, 1/125 sec, ISO 100. No filters used. Studio Lights set to 1/32. A shower head and a thick skin. © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
