My self portrait final for my Drawing II class. This took me a looooong time. I was up till 7am Wednesday night to finish this piece! Chalk pastel pencils & sticks, charcoal, white Rives BFK archival paper. My face is supposed to be dollish and unrealistic. Too bad a lot of the details are lost on here, maybe I will post links to detail shots later. I’m quite happy with this piece and I got an 97% =]
Crowd control Chinese style, just a short distance from the Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing on the evening of the Opening Ceremony for the 29th Olympic Games. There were literally 1000s of military on every corner! It was a very humid evening and we felt very sorry for them all. They must have been baking in their uniforms! Taken with Canon 40D, using 70-300 IS USM Lens at f4.6 and 170mm. ISO 800 and 1/4 second mounted on a tripod.

Why this image was created / I wanted to challenge myself in the self-portrait arena. I thought it would be a great challenge to see if i could, convincingly, create a picture of me, touching me. The end result . . . sensual weirdness and a bit of auto-erotic splendor wink. How this image was created / I shot 2 self-portraits in my studio and scaled one self-portrait to be a little taller than the other, for a more realistic effect. I used the reflection off of a stainless steel elevator for the background and added in a few clouds around the feet. I then merged everything together in Adobe Photoshop. About this Image / I wanted this image to have an emerging from a dream and timeless kind of visual aesthetic. I am also a huge fan of Helmut Newton and find myself drawn toward creating images that are dynamic and sexually charged YET detached at the same time . . . hence the vacant stares and mannequin-ish skin. Interacting yet not interacting . . . i love visual and emotional conflict/contradiction/paradoxes. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / browse Jaeda’s photographic art by category: / dreamscapes, artistic nudes, couples, glamour, erotica, conceptual, sensual, portrait, spiritual, survivor art / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— /
