  • Rusted from the outside inward, these iron wheels once helped the chains and belts move around inside this massive machine. Why so much, so big, so many cogs? Careful scrutiny of all sides of this photographic wonder has me believing that the moving parts inside this retired beast helped turn the combination of an Cultivator, Seeder and Auger. After giving life to the land, the rusted remains sit retired beneath the dead-gums. • (I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. • In the famous legend, Lady Godiva so sympathizes with her subjects’ suffering under her husband’s oppressive taxes that she pleads with him to lift the tariffs and give the people some relief. Sick of her persistence and wanting to call her bluff, Leofric tells her he will lift the tax if she rides naked through the city and to his surprise, Godiva does, after instructing the townspeople to shutter their windows and stay inside. • Dear Von is always reminding me to use one of my tripods… so here you go V! I’m using my tripod lol. Actually i’m in the process of making chinese cherry jelly and needed some way to hang the cheese cloth so the juice could drip. In order to have clear jelly it needs to drip for several hours so that you don’t end up with cloudy jelly. Does this work for ya V? lol

  • The Stravinsky Fountain in winter, turned off and iced up, as posterized faces laugh at one of its stalled contraptions.

  • A view inside a wonderful contraption used for roadwork. It runs on rubber caterpillar tracks and has a front-mounted drill, along with numerous other tools attached, including a pneumatic compacter and a metalwork vise! In front of shops near Cardenden railway station. / Monday 21st September 2009, about 11:45 BST.

  • What it is. I don’t know. Just a mish mash of old cogs and wheels at the eucalpytus distillery on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

  • What started as a snowflake morphed into one of those contraptions that kids make up (think of the game Mousetrap) and then became a little musing on the waste of resources.

  • The warm sun generates echoes of the past Heat created by Function and Work. Do machines carry memories of a past where the Function was central and all well-oiled components teamed to perform flawlessly? And if so, do those echoing memories flake away like the rust and decay that is slowly destroying its now useless existence? If mere existence is defined by Function, what level of hell is occupied by being useless, abandoned, forgotten? And how hellish the interminable wait for the rust and decay to at last usher in sweet Oblivion?
