Pangea, Greek for “all land”. A supercontinent that existed during the late Palaeozoic and early Mesozoic Eras (about 300 million to 200 million years ago), and which comprised of two large continental masses: Gondwana to the south and Laurasia to the north. I am always fascinated by satellitephotos and the view on our world through an airplaine window. Based on the shape of animals I have created new continents that inspire the imagination of the viewer. In this feature with some beautiful and hidden beaches at the ivory coast!

I love Africa, in a geographical and historical sense, so I painted it, geographically, like a map. I’ve added some interesting historical and geographic links from Wiki mostly so you too can get a larger appreciation of The Dark Continent…speaking of, I have just read some of Africa Explored, Europeans into The Dark Continent and the incredible expeditions these men such as Livingstone and Mungo Park took into some of the most inhospital regions in the world in the name of exploration in the time of the great ‘land grab’ of Africa is truly an amazing story of human courage and determination. Historically, there is no equal… Discover.. / Africa and the Ancient Saharan Rock Art, showing a green Sahara until 3000BC / south of that we find this incredible structure looks like it could be Atlantis… known as the Richat Structure. One of my favourite historical towns is Carthage, in modern Tunisia, a Phoenician colony that rose to be a very powerful empire, one the Romans wanted rid of…. led by Hannibal, the war hero who led his war elephants over the Swiss Alps in a bid to get to Rome and fight them off from Carthage, he failed…Carthage was razed into oblivion. Head East across to the famous Lighthouse, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and the biggest Library in the ancient world which stood at the city ofAlexandria, current archaeological work there now is revealing lots of historically important finds. Sailing down the The Nile River to a place where the historian from 450BC Herodotus tells us about the legendary people of the Cushite Empire, with over 100 pyramids as ancient as the Empire itself and as many mysteries as pyramids is the age old city of Meroe, passing through it eventually reaching the country with the oldest human history is Ethiopia which lies within the Great Rift Valley, truly the most spectacular land in the world where you can find Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya, Lake Victoria, Victoria Falls and Lake Tanganyika, spectacular geography, amazing history! Hope you enjoyed your tour around Africa, The Dark Continent. A savannah, is a tropical grassland ecosystem characterized by the trees being sufficiently small or widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of C4 grasses. Some classification systems also recognize a grassland savannah from which trees are absent. It is often believed that savannahs feature widely spaced, scattered trees, however in many savannah communities tree densities are higher and trees are more regularly spaced than in forest communities. Savannahs are also characterized by seasonal water availability, with the majority of rainfall being confined to one season of the year. Savannahs can be associated with several types of biomes. Savannahs are frequently seen as a transitional zone, occurring between forest and desert or prairie. They cover 20% of the globe not including oceans. The largest amount of Savannah is in Africa.
