What a dazzling start to the RedBubble Real Photography Competition! Over 800 entries already, from all over the planet. We’re looking forward to seeing even more as the competition continues through until August 24. However, an important reminder: only one entry per category If you got multiple entries in a category, please choose your best one and remove the competition tag from the others. Otherwise you won’t be eligible to win any of the cool prizes.

And the Winners Are….. / Well everyone, this was mission impossible, to choose the winners of these 2 contests. It took most of Saturday and Sunday to decide. Some of the RedBubblers were disqualified for not sticking to the rules of each contest. I eliminated everyone that didn’t put the the tag words bluemooncomp or moonphotocomp (depending on the contest). / I also eliminated everyone that had multiple entries under using the above tag words. And I eliminated others for not following the rules for the image (i.e.- no use of my “Blue Moon” in the Blue Moon Comp. Sadly, there were some excellent entrants that got disqualified. / I went back and forth trying to figure out the winners. I swapped winners so many times that I lost track. My sister and niece helped with the selection. In the end, there were too many excellent works of art and too few places. / I am preparing a contest for next spring that will be a little better organized and make it easier for people to understand the rules. I am starting to work on the prizes so that I can have some extra bonuses for the winners next time. I will announce the next contest sometime in January. Here are the winners for the Blue Moon Comp. / First place goes to: / Creations II : Until the Universe Learned to Expand by Snowdog / / The 2 second place prizes go to: A moon for derid by richiedean and Blue Moon over Morgan by lizard911 There are 5 third place prizes: Blue Moon Contest by quin10 Blue Moon by Per Einar Gunnarsen Blue Moon Comp by koukei Wild Blue Yonder by David Jackson The Big Break Theory by Photobloke The winners for the Moon Photo Comp will be posted in a seperate Journal tonight or tomorrow. / The prizes are as follows / First place: A large size mounted print of their entry (if the winning entry is not large enough for the large size, they will get the next size down) / Two 2nd place winners: Large laminated prints of their entries. / Five 3rd place winners: Each will receive a card of their entry. Kudos to all the winners. I just want to say that this was incredibly hard to judge due to the quality of the entries. So a big congratulations to all the other entrants in this contest. All entries were on the exceptional side. / Deri

I am so sorry it took awhile to post this. I am getting ready for a trip to Cancun and have been frantically scrambling to get things done. / This was quite the hard contest to judge. Several people entered images that were made with layers (only basic photo editing was allowed) and several entered more than one entry (only one entry per person). Sadly, I had to disqualify some really good entries due to not following the rules. Once again, I had so many excellent entries that I have spent days wringing my hands trying to figure out a winner. With thanks to Diane my sister for helping me judge this. / Before I announce the winners, for those of you interested, we are trying to put together a calender for the Blue Moon Contest and another one for the Moon Contest. Since calenders are new, the details are being worked out. Let me know if you would be interested in these calenders. They are trying to decide how they would divide up the payment to the artist for each picture. / Anyway, with out any further babbling, here are the winners: First Place goes to: Paul Tait’s “Full Moon” The 2 second place winners are: Mungo Lunette at full moon by Cheryl Ridge Solitude by Lumineux The 5-3rd place winners are: Moon Shadow by Joan Smart Moon Storm by Paul Jeston Last Nights Moon by SuniPruett .......... by misschristina95 In Earth’s Shadow by Mark Greenmantle A big congratulations to the winners!! Prizes are as follows: / First place: A large size mounted print of their entry (if the winning entry is not large enough for the large size, they will get the next size down) / Two 2nd place winners: Large laminated prints of their entries. / Five 3rd place winners: Each will receive a card of their entry.

Announcing a new Photo Competition. The theme is “Once in a Blue Moon” / Deadline February 28, 2008 You don’t need to have a blue moon in your entry. I am looking more at the phrase “Once in a Blue Moon”, meaning something that doesn’t happen very often (if ever). For example, pigs flying, snow in Los Angeles etc. This is wide open for your imagination. / Requirements: The entries must have been worked on in Photoshop only. No other editing or specialty programs are allowed. See the rules below. / The artwork must be brand new artwork. The purpose of this competition is to encourage people to go out and create something new and different in Photoshop. / Snowdog (winner of last years Blue Moon Photo Comp) and Deon de Waal have graciously volunteered to help me judge this contest. Thanks guys. / Prizes are: / 1st: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $100.00 USD / 2nd: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $ 50.00 USD / 3rd: Red Bubble Gift certificate for $ 25.00 USD / I am working on some additional goodies for the winners (TBA) 2 Honorary awards will each receive a $10.00 Red Bubble Gift certificate (USD) The rules must be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so will mean elimination from the contest. 1. One entry per person. More than one entry means disqualification. 2. Put “oncebluecomp” in your tag line. If you don’t have it in your tagline, you are not entered. 3. Artwork must be completed in 2008 (brand new artwork). 4. Photoshop only. No other editing or specialty program can be used. Photoshop plug-ins from different vendors are allowed. 5. If you use any stock photos in your artwork, you must give the photographer or stock photo company, credit. 6. Collaborations are allowed. I can split the gift certificates if need be. 7. You can change or alter your entry up until Feb. 28, 2008 as long as you stick to the 1 entry per person rule. So I woke up yesterday and went about my daily routine of checking emails, comments, RSS feeds etc and one of the emails was from my Uncle in Hobart. / / He said he a had a special surprise for me, I was hoping it’d be a pimped out hover craft with lasers and a bobble head hippo air freshener that I can ride to Uni in, (man that’d be sweeeeeeet) :-D but instead it was a copy of the Feb issue of DeskTop Mag with my piece “Self Portrait, Part 3” filling almost an entire page (pg 70) in the magazine! / There’s also a great article in the issue about the Red Bubble community which is a great read and some really great work from fellow Red Bubblers Enrico Bettesworth and Connie De Camillo. I’d just like to thank Red Bubble and all the great members here that have taken the time to leave me comments on my work and sent me such great bubble mails since joining the site. It’s a great community. Thanks, – Cam

Today we released our first new site-wide challenge The City. This is the latest RedBubble publication where we aim to showcase the best visual and written work on the Web. A TShirt Competition is also on the way. “The City” is open to all works that explore the complex, vibrant world of concrete, glass and humanity that are urban environments all over the world. The best works will be selected for publication in “The City” to come out in November and available for sale through RedBubble. We publish these books regularly as a way for the RedBubble community to showcase their work in a professionally presented and designed book working with a copy editor. It’s one way RedBubble provides opportunities for professional development for its members. Visual works are entered directly into this challenge. from works in your portfolio and then voted on. The top works will be selected for publication. To enter written works go the group RedBubble The City and follow directions. Written works will be shortlisted and voted on by a group of judges. The top written and visual work will receive $US 250 in cash each and a $US 250 RedBubble voucher. Each of the published works will receive a $US 40 voucher to purchase work on RedBubble. We will be increasing the frequency of publication to be able to showcase more of the work on RedBubble and to cover more themes. So expect an announcement soon about what the next publication will be. We are aiming to make the publications, collectible (but affordable) which will mean relatively limited editions and consistent formatting. “Compassion” the most recent publication will be out soon.

Today is the love of my life’s birthday!!! He is turning 30 years old!!! To help celebrate, I have decided to buy him some t-shirts – one of my own and one from another lucky Red Bubblian. So, without further adieu, I present the Greg’s Birthday Contest!!!!!! From now until October 1st anyone can submit a t-shirt design to this contest by adding a comment below. Here are the rules: The design must be on a t-shirt. The design should be tagged with GregBday08 (please tag your work if you want to have it considered, because we will be using this tag to browse the entries). You should place a link to your work in the comments section below. A simple link will do, but a photo link will be even better (brownie points!). There are no requirements for theme, style, or color (just make sure it follows standard Red Bubble Guidelines). You may want to read the below, short list of his likes to get an idea of things that will catch our eyes. Designs should be your original work and all sources should be cited appropriately. If it is one thing I abhor, it is designers who use images or other material from the internet and then do not give proper credit. So, please give credit where credit is due. That is all we ask. <—This is Greg. Some of Greg’s likes: dragons, science fiction, fantasy, witches & wizards, video games, board games, astrology, sodoku, chocolate, music, food, sushi, cocktails, traveling, road trips, computers, technology, coffee, hot chocolate, baking, cooking, robots, anything mechanical, the paranormal, mysteries, Halloween, sarcasm/wit, humor, and books. Favorite colors: blue, gray, black, beige, brown, green, silver. How it will work: On October 1st, I will announce that the contest is closed for entries. On October 2nd, Greg and I will log on to Red Bubble and do a search of the tag GregBday08 and we will browse through ALL the entries and add the finalists to my favorites list. On October 3rd, we will announce the winner via a journal posting and buy the winning design. After we receive the design, Greg will wear it for pictures and the pictures will be added to the buyer’s booth and to a special journal along with an interview promoting the winning designer. The winning design will also be featured in The Amazing Little Pieces of Awesomeness Gallery (formerly the B.Christopher Designs Virtual Gallery) and in my Monthly Addictions Showcase for October 2008. So, not only will I buy the t-shirt, but I will promote the hell out of it as well! This is a fantastic opportunity, IMHO, and a great way to celebrate my partner’s b-day!!!! So, get cracking on submitting those designs!!! If your design is already in my favorites, you can still submit it – it just means you have one up on the competition but no guarantees. LOL! Good luck to everyone and all. Cheers! ~ Brian (bchris) :o) P.S. I may not be on here until tomorrow cause now I have to go to the party. P.P.S. I am submitting this to all of my groups because this covers a lot of area and I hope most group hosts would love their members to get in on the action! NOTE: I added a few more likes to the list. Tee-hee… =] / Sep. 28th UPDATE: WOW!!!! I want to thank all those who have entered so far!!! Such great designs!!! Yes, you can submit more than one design. There is NO limit to the number of designs you can submit! Yay!!! Greg saw the post briefly before going to bed last night and was so touched by all of your comments! Thank you so much! :) / October 1st UPDATE: Thank you to all who have taken the time to enter this little contest of ours, we are so thrilled and excited by all the entries!!! Today is the final day and at midnight (Pacific Time – that is like 10 1/2 hours from now) we will end the contest and start going through the entries. I have already commented on some of the entries and have not had time to comment on all the latest entries because this week is full of family birthdays for us. Last night was my cousins bday and today is another cousins bday…phew…!!!! LOL! So, tonight is the finale and tomorrow the selection process begins! I cannot wait! I have a feeling there will be some exciting news on the 3rd, when we announce the winner! :) / October 2nd Update: The contest is “officially” closed. Sorry I was not here to close it right at midnight, but I was out late last night taking some of my cousins from Wales to Knott’s Scary Farm and celebrating birthdays. Two of them are leaving today, so it has been hectic to say the least. But, never fear, we will be selecting the finalists. Right now!!!!! So if your design gets favorited in the next few minutes, it is a finalist. I will also be writing a journal entry regarding the finalists after they have all been selected. Thanks again to everyone – all the designs are amazing! You can view ALL the finalists here. :)

I’d just like to let all you fractalists out there know that the Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest for 2009 is now open and accepting entries. This is a contest to select images to be shown at the International Congress of Mathematicians in India in 2010 where the winning fractals will be shown in an exhibition in order to help promote fractal and algorithmic art. This is an important contest, in my opinion at least, as this contest is to select all of the fractal artwork that will be used in the exhibition. You’ll be able to get your work out there and shown on an international stage and what could be better than that ?! Submissions are being accepted from now until October 10th, 2009. You can find out more information on rules, submission requirements, etc., on the link below. So, don’t be shy, open those fractal programs up, give it your best shot ! And I’d like to wish everyone the very best of luck and happy fractaling !!! Benoit Mandelbrot Contest
