Recently we have had to contemplate what is acceptable art on RedBubble from a social perspective. The first point to make is that we are not the government. Our governments and courts are there to protect freedom of expression. At RedBubble we believe they should do so vigorously. This does not mean RedBubble needs to be the home for all expression. We can defend the ideal while still having a narrower editorial focus at RedBubble. We have never allowed pornography, for example. So, what is acceptable? Two particular works have bought this issue into focus. They are: We have asked a wide cross section of the RedBubble community about these works and more generally about RedBubble’s content guidelines. On balance, and after much debate, we have decided on guidelines that will result in the removal of these works. Of particular concern to us is the conjunction of violent imagery with a national symbol held in reverence by many. The net result is not a political statement but a statement that demeans an entire nation. Such a statement is inflammatory and does not further rational discussion. The general statement is that we will not allow works that have malicious use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality. It is possible to make genuine political or social points without stepping over this line. We don’t expect this policy to be welcomed by everybody. RedBubble supports free speech and everyone’s right to express unpopular views (or even popular views). But we also need to foster an environment where the debate can be rationally held without connotations of violence or the inciting of hate. We will leave these works up for the next little while so that the full community can be informed about the issue. You can find a full explanation of our content guidelines here.
Native only to North America and Bermuda, early settlers were captivated by its friendliness and sweet song. Since then it has been associated with love, joy, and the renewal of springtime. Bluebirds are used to commemorate marriages and anniversaries and are considered messengers of good health and contentment. / / This one hunched on our porch and nested in our birdhouse at the beginning of this year. “http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/store.aspstore_id=632&gcu=4158257886”

From the fun rides at Moomba. The trick is hand holding the 400 and following the screams.

This is a wonderful part of a circular walk I did, the sun was flickering through the branches, insisting that I took the shot … I hope that I have added an atmosphere that you like ….... / . / Photoshop CS3 / PhotoArtMaster / . / Abbeycymhir / Mid Wales UK / . / Copyright 2008 Richie Dean
Oil Pastel And Acrylic And Minor Digital Enhancements Concept: This is one of the many in Ophelia’s Love Encounters Series, it’s her experience of many facets of this wonderful thing called LOVE.. This is what she has to say about love today : “Love means being surrounded by redbubblers everyday.” Time rockets! Had some pockets of reflection and guess what…have been here on RB for 2 months already, I just entered my 3rd month :D Life on RB has been so enjoyable and enriching for me but I have one major regret. That is I should have joined much earlier. I remembered when I first joined this community, Fa assured me that this is the most vibrant online community that she has ever experienced and that I would enjoy my stay here…and of course, she’s right!! As I am staying in a foreign country(I’m a Singaporean living in Thailand) and working alone most of the times, RB has given me much support in terms of creative expression and a great pool of friends whom I know care for me. I wouldnt dare ask for more :D Truly grateful for all the friends whom I have made over these months, friends who have constantly provided feedback and comments to my work, both here and in my smile4me gallery, who have favorited my works and exchanged numerous bmails with..I owe my beautiful stay in RB to all of you! This little piece of artwork is me saying THANK YOU to all you beautiful people out there!! :D /

From a recent travel to Bhutan. This grandfather came from his village with his granddaughter on his back to attend a ceremony in the local buddhist temple. Bhutan is an interesting place where the traditional and modern worlds collide. This child looked at the camera suspiciously, as if to say what is out there in the world. The grandfather had a big smile as if to say, I am content.
Somewhere secret… somewhere safe.
A small English village, Hanley Swan in Worcestershire. It boasts a duckpond with a nesting platform. I was camping near there last summer and took a walk to this village. To my pleasant surprise I found this Heron, he was looking rather pleased with himself and in no mood to take flight …......... Copyright 2008 Richie Dean PhotoArtMaster and Adobe Photoshop
These two leopards are at the Brookfield Zoo. One of my most favorite photos, with the orton effect added. This was taken through glass.

Ragman has put together some journals covering some basics of doing it right when it comes to art/photography. Here are some of the excerpts from his up-coming book. Very worthwhile reading, for everyone, IMHO! I’ll add this to my list of handy tips and tricks, so it’s easy to find from my profile page.
