  • Stretch
    by Jan Cartwright

    US$4.28–US$114.00

Cat stretching in window against blue Colorado sky

  • P/S Retouched by Ange in collaboration with Ingrid Sjodahl. Digital photograph shot by Greg Parsons in collaboration with Ingrid Sjodahl (2007). KvB ex-student of mine Ingrid graduated last year winning the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers, NSW Portfolio of the Year Award 2007…needless to say damn proud of her. Model: Liz. I retouched face, hair & recreated arched eyebrows for further definition; left eye was ‘opened’ up to match right eye. Ingrid added b/w desaturated tone, painted lips, bodice lace & sheet in red tone. Original before shot image below.

  • Photographic based digital montage 2007 (1 from series of 6 – redesigned from 2004/5 Japanese Series). Re-worked combining two from the series. I shot the tree, flowers & combined them in P/S with drawn elements & filtered the lot. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers. Generally I tire of my artwork yet still love this series to this day.

  • Photographic based digital montage 2007 (1 from series of 6 – redesigned from 2004/5 Japanese Series) My favourite one from the series. I shot the tree, flowers, roses, birds, combined them in P/S with drawn elements & filtered the lot. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers.

  • Photographic based digital montage – Feb, 2008. Created over several hrs…2 nights this week (suffering from concussion) from an accidental fall over the wk’end. Photoshop montage combining digital shots of jewels, scanned samples of vintage style wallpaper and added drawn elements. Fifty layers retouched, blended, filtered, colour & tonal curve adjusted. I want to use the design as a furniture (upholstering) fine velvet/suede fabric for a small round bedroom foot stool. Nice to spend time on my own artwork. After work husband Dave & I pretty much spend all our spare time renovating/working on our 123 yr old victorian terrace…so a bump to the head stopping me in my tracks wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

  • Digital Photograph/Photoshop Composite 2007 Took the shot myself & it’s P/S retouched, airbrushed, colour oversaturated with a layer set of 10 different eye effects (I’m naturally brown eyed). Original before shot image below.

Recently we have had to contemplate what is acceptable art on RedBubble from a social perspective. The first point to make is that we are not the government. Our governments and courts are there to protect freedom of expression. At RedBubble we believe they should do so vigorously. This does not mean RedBubble needs to be the home for all expression. We can defend the ideal while still having a narrower editorial focus at RedBubble. We have never allowed pornography, for example. So, what is acceptable? Two particular works have bought this issue into focus. They are: We have asked a wide cross section of the RedBubble community about these works and more generally about RedBubble’s content guidelines. On balance, and after much debate, we have decided on guidelines that will result in the removal of these works. Of particular concern to us is the conjunction of violent imagery with a national symbol held in reverence by many. The net result is not a political statement but a statement that demeans an entire nation. Such a statement is inflammatory and does not further rational discussion. The general statement is that we will not allow works that have malicious use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality. It is possible to make genuine political or social points without stepping over this line. We don’t expect this policy to be welcomed by everybody. RedBubble supports free speech and everyone’s right to express unpopular views (or even popular views). But we also need to foster an environment where the debate can be rationally held without connotations of violence or the inciting of hate. We will leave these works up for the next little while so that the full community can be informed about the issue. You can find a full explanation of our content guidelines here.

I’m getting really sick of people using the line “all those pet dog, pets and baby photos” as an indicator of the “rubbish” on RB. The content is irrelevant. There are some damn good “pet” portraits on RB (and yes, some really bad ones) I’m actually quite sick of a photo being considered good because of the content. Taking a photo of an exotic looking person doesn’t make you a genius photographer by default. It just means the person isn’t from your country and so is ‘interesting’. Good for you. It can be much harder to get a GREAT photo of a common subject. You have to work to make it stand out. Blurring the water in a photo doesn’t mean it’s a great photo, having a pretty sunset doesn’t make it a great photo, photographing someone who has a character lined face doesn’t make it a great photo, being naked in it doesn’t make a great photo, taking a photo of an exotic animal doesn’t make it a great photo….on and on I can go. So really, enough with the idea that pets = bad photos. Nothing is great or bad by default, it’s how you take it, YOU make it a great photo, if you can.

  • Oil Pastel And Acrylic And Minor Digital Enhancements Concept: This is one of the many in Ophelia’s Love Encounters Series, it’s her experience of many facets of this wonderful thing called LOVE.. This is what she has to say about love today : “Love means being surrounded by redbubblers everyday.” Time rockets! Had some pockets of reflection and guess what…have been here on RB for 2 months already, I just entered my 3rd month :D Life on RB has been so enjoyable and enriching for me but I have one major regret. That is I should have joined much earlier. I remembered when I first joined this community, Fa assured me that this is the most vibrant online community that she has ever experienced and that I would enjoy my stay here…and of course, she’s right!! As I am staying in a foreign country(I’m a Singaporean living in Thailand) and working alone most of the times, RB has given me much support in terms of creative expression and a great pool of friends whom I know care for me. I wouldnt dare ask for more :D Truly grateful for all the friends whom I have made over these months, friends who have constantly provided feedback and comments to my work, both here and in my smile4me gallery, who have favorited my works and exchanged numerous bmails with..I owe my beautiful stay in RB to all of you! This little piece of artwork is me saying THANK YOU to all you beautiful people out there!! :D /

Native only to North America and Bermuda, early settlers were captivated by its friendliness and sweet song. Since then it has been associated with love, joy, and the renewal of springtime. Bluebirds are used to commemorate marriages and anniversaries and are considered messengers of good health and contentment. / / This one hunched on our porch and nested in our birdhouse at the beginning of this year. “http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/store.aspstore_id=632&gcu=4158257886”
