“Soft, light, feel the emotion flow around you – put your back to the darkness and face the light.” This is a dramatic and striking nude, a dark and emotive piece that invites prolonged viewing and conversation. It is bold and contemporary with a lovely sketcherly aspect. The colors are rich, tawny and dark with a splash of color that draws the eye. This piece is Oils on Canvas painted in one of my classic signature washed techniques. The dress is glazed in traditional oil painting technique so that it glows and leaps off the canvas. This piece is so rich and warm with a lot of depth and subtlety, sweeping curves and beautiful soft lines. The canvas is used as an element in this painting lending it’s texture to the overall work. The colors are warm, sensual with a wonderful tonal quality. It is signed Jennie on the front.

Look into the eyes of this clown. Do you see even a little part of your own soul? If the answer is YES, Betty has achieved her goal. There are several ways to express happiness, pain or other emotions in art. An artist I know said “Every artist paints or draws at least one clown in their career”. Why do you as the viewer suppose this is true? Personally, I think it is. Why? – because it is a way to express the pain or joy we all feel in any given time in our lives. / As many of the portraits of clowns in times past, an illustration of the personal frustration with the circumstances we all face in our lives reflects in this work. The Orignal painting was sold to an Art Collector from NY. Original: / Mixed Media, Watercolor and Soft Pastel on Paper, 16/20in
