This is an Eastern collared lizard, and this particular specimen belongs to a subspecies of the broader genus that inhabits the few remaining glade habitats in southern Missouri’s Ozark Mountains. I personally really like this image because the colorful, lichen covered rocks are just as beautiful as the lizard, and the two together make for a special treat! / /

“The Big Bay”, taken at Oka Provincial Park, Quebec, on Tuesday July 29/08. This area, which has an observation tower , a boardwalk, and hiking trails, is best know as a blue heron nesting place. Called a heronry it is ranked as one of the two largest in Quebec. It is protected by legislation respecting the conservation and development of wildlife. / Unfortunately we did not see any that day….
This is my artwork entry for the ‘Freedom To Create Prize’. It is very complex in the multi-issue nature of the messages it is meant to portray. What may appear as separate issues are really a part of a larger single issue showing how the individual issues are inseparable from one another. The artwork addresses the following individual issues as a whole… / / 1.) Feeding the population of the Earth, and not just the hungry or starving. / / 2.) The great public misconception that biomass fuels, such as ethanol, are really a ‘green’ alternative technology, when in fact, they are not a viable and sustainable alternative energy source, as they create exponentially many more energy, environmental, and human rights issues than they resolve. / / 3.) The ongoing loss and abuse of the very few fertile soils that exist on Earth due to the accepted agricultural practices we continue to use in how we grow food. Please take the time to read the article that I have written that accompanies this artwork at the link shown below. It will give you a basic primer as to why these issues are inseparable. I believe that once you see the bigger picture emerge you will never see the smaller issues that it involves in the same light again. / / Food… Not Fuel by Art4Earth / http://www.redbubble.com/people/art4earth/writing/1681231-food-not-fuel / / All my own proceeds on the sale of this artwork are being donated to the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization, as this is the only organization I am aware of that provides an agricultural assistance program combined with food relief programs to help feed the world’s hungry and starving. / / United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization / www.fao.org/ / / Oh !... Details about the creation of the artwork. / The backdrop was rendered in Terragen. The terrain file in Terragen was sculpted by myself by digitally hand-painting a greyscale heightfield map in Photoshop, and then importing the bitmap file version into Terragen. The multitude of other environmental files used in Terragen were also created myself. The gas pump was created from a photo I took myself. The starving child was created from a PD image from the web. The pump and child shadows were drawn in Photoshop. All of these separate components were than composited, painted, and re-touched in Photoshop. Thanks for the visit, and please read the associated article. Peace & Love, / / Art 4 EartH

TKRosevear 2008 WOLF Song This shot is from the Julian Wolf Center for Science and Education in California, it was taken before the devastating fires in July of 2002, where a female Mexican wolf and her 3 pups were lost. Their mission is to increase the awareness and understanding of the importance of all wildlife by focusing on the Gray Wolf and it’s subspecies of Alaskan and Mexican Gray Wolves. Founded in 1977 and located in the Cuyamaca Mountains south of Julian, about 50 miles east of SanDiego, it also serves as a regional Biological Field Station teaching the role of predators within the context of their ecosystem. Dispel the FEAR of the “Big Bad Wolf”, it is a myth perpetuated by the greed of MAN raising domestic cattle and sheep for your dinner table… / /

When time has come and death is near / They show their strength and hide their fear / They share a joke, then shed a tear / Last moments spent with those held dear / / As grasp released on life held tight / And darkness falls, as though the night / Then soon replaced by something bright / Freed soul now moves into the light / / As toward the light they do ascend / They understand, they comprehend / It’s just begun, it’s not the end / Forever does their life extend / / This fractal artwork was inspired one night while watching a show on the television called ‘Ghost Whisperer’, where a woman is able to communicate with earthbound souls and help them ‘cross over to the other side’. As is the case in many near death experiences, the folks that die for a few moments and then come back describe going towards a beautiful light. / / I am not really a very religious person, however, I do believe that there is something much greater than us all in the grand scheme of things in the universe. In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant. A consequence of this law is that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed in form. Seeing as how humans are basically a large network of electricity and magnetism (energy) housed within our bodies (matter), and given the physics law stated above, then this energy that makes us what we are can not die, but only change form. / / So what many may term as our souls (energy) must move on as another form of energy. So someone that dies for a moment and them makes it back saying that they see this light may not be as far-fetched as a lot of folks think… even from the scientific perspective. / / This fractal artwork was created in Apophysis, and is meant to conceptually portray what that light may look like as we move toward it after our physical demise, that portal where our life energy is converted into another form. The original is 3600 pixels square at 300 pixels per inch and took 51 hours and 22 minutes to render on a 3.2 Ghz PC with 4 GB of RAM. These technical details so you can appreciate how detailed the print is. / /

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Brown Falcon (Falco berigora) Taranna Conservation Park, East Coast Tasmania, Australia. AS IS – Straight from the Camera Brown Falcons are small to medium-sized raptors (birds of prey). The female is larger than the male. The Brown Falcon has a range of plumage colours, from very dark brown to light brown above and off-white below. Generally, the upperparts are dark brown and the underparts are pale buff or cream. The sides of the head are brown with a characteristic tear-stripe below the eye. Birds from the tropical north are very dark, with a paler face and undertail, while those from central Australia are paler all over. Younger birds resemble dark adults, but have less obvious barring on the tail, and a buff-yellow colour on the face, throat and nape of the neck. On the road again – Kangaroo Island, SA I have to tell you – it doesn’t get much better than this for someone who enjoys travelling and photographing Australia’s great outdoors and its native wildlife. This cute chap is lucky – we were driving along slowly, enjoying the scenery on Kangaroo Island. We stopped to take photos and then usher the Koala off the road. Other critters aren’t so lucky. We have witnessed not only roadkill on our travels but the distressing sight of cars actually running over helpless creatures.
