This is a forty-four year old picture of me in an actual police lineup. At the risk of disappointing anybody, I am not the criminal here; I was employed by the police department when they arrested two scam artists caught trying to flee the area with some little old lady’s life savings. Four female employees were rounded up to stand in the lineup. Despite putting on as guilty a look as I could manage, the victim correctly identified the two desperados. / /

An as is shot of our favorite “Standing Peaople” or Pine Trees near our cabin ;) A tree that cannot be confused with any others – I must concede / Its evergreen branches conceive cones, while some conceal seeds / The pinon, with a taste like confection, which connoisseur birds feed / I must confess, the one most condusive for my eyes, is the blue spruce breed These trees do console my winter spirit with their life so consistent / Continuous shelter for the falcons and birds, whose travels are distant / Unconditionally they give of their flesh, which contain constructing assistant / In addition to needs for economic growth, we’re convinced and persistent An icon Sequoia, the tallest conifer of all, towers as high as days in the year / The only species able to conquer death, by conjuring life, when its base is cut clear / Conservation efforts aplenty, on the Pacific coast despite a consumerism frontier / I’ve had many conversations of concern against so many black marketers My conscience speaks loudly to those driven by greed / Who try to convince me – when they’re condensed, they are much like weeds / I’m interconnected to those who contribute to my medicinal needs / By no means conventional, though content with success and Godspeed The traditions of Christmas, I will not conform to, by cutting one down / A concept of constraint, receiving no congratulations, but frowns / When we light our live one out under the constellations – the only in town / It’s our own beacon to condole all conifers slain for a holiday crown. tkrosevear 2007 An exercise in using as many words containing “con”, this poem contains 42, inspired by TREES. Pastel on sanded Colourfix paper (burgundy) – 70cm x 50cm Con Conning was the first member of the Seymour & District Art Society to be made a Life Member. Originally from New Zealand, Con is a superlative artist painting mainly in watercolour. He is a much loved and valued member of the Art Society and the community in general. I painted this portrait as a tribute to Con for the Art Society 21st Birthday celebrations held last November. It is currently on display at the Old Courthouse Gallery, Seymour, in an exhibition called ‘About Face’ and when that finishes I will make a gift of this painting to Con and his family. This work was featured in ‘Works on Paper’ – Jan 2009 / Placed 2nd in the ‘Paint the Painter’ Challenge in the Fine Art of Portraiture group – Feb 2009 / Featured on the RedBubble homepage – Feb 2009 / Featured in the Contemporary Pastel Painters group – May 2009 / One of 50 Finalists in the Australian Guild of Realist Artists ‘Australia at Large’ art competition / CHALLENGE WINNER – Portrait of a Man challenge in Impressionism Cafe – Nov 2009
