  • Was heading for Sydney to a Christian Womens Conference in March ‘06. We left well before the sun came up but the sky was starting to change colour. Luckily, I was sitting on the passenger side and caught this one through the window as we were driving along. It’s one of my all time favourites.

  • Its always a little bit strange when you go into a room and see it like this, still oozing life from when it was last used. I can only imagine that this place was used for staff training, or perhaps learning and education for the residents.

  • Inspired by a recent chat with a pal here, I post a tribute to two pigs. May all know: they lived, if briefly, on planet Earth. I took shots of the pigs at an Oklahoma City auction house last weekend. The lovely pigs, wallowing beautifully in cool mud, were serene and intelligent. We tried to buy two charming, pink sisters who greeted us and were “people friendly,” but unfortunately, they had already been sold, for slaughter. This photo is the last they ever will be alive, on this, their finaly day. God speed, piggies.

  • The Cloud vs. Bird Shirt-LOGO for the Web Directions 2008 Conference was offered to RedBubblians to remix the design as they wanted. I had to have a go at it because I knew I wouldn’t get to the conference. You can get the template to remix it by visiting the Web Directions site . Tag it with wds08 . This is my amended version. Still working on captions. Might leave it blank

  • Candid shot of some prion experts in the background and of my lab partner, William Taylor at our conference in Madrid. We were just having a bite to eat and a quick beer before diving back into work…

  • This piece was taken from a picture a friend took while visiting in Turkey. I saw the beautiful sunset and got such a feeling of warm, enduring friendship radiating off these men. I wondered if they had been meeting there for years, discussing politics or polices, each with their own voice, and respectful ears. About this painting: / Size: 12”x14” / media: colored pencils, graphite / materials: 140 lb bristol paper / subject: Men / Status Original: available from artist Note: Artist recommendation; best prints are achieved when print size is closest to the original size. • This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /

He is the first African American to hold the office. Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from January 2005 until November 2008, when he resigned following his election to the presidency. Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He worked as a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree, and worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago before serving three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Obama lost an election for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000. He entered the 2004 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate as an underdog and then won the primary with broad support that surprised campaign watchers and raised his profile in the Democratic party. He was selected to deliver the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004 and gave a nationally televised speech that further raised his profile. In the November general election he won a landslide victory for a Senate seat. He launched a bid for president in early 2007 and competed in a close contest in the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton. He won the nomination and became the first major party African American presidential candidate. In the 2008 general election he defeated Republican candidate John McCain and was inaugurated as President on January 20, 2009.

  • “Mathew Reed’s series of works reflects on the long history of man and his deep spiritual bond with a companion animal. He touches on various religions and cultures as he expresses a spiritual connection with the protective otherworldly silhouette of a wolf. His centre piece work, Spiritual Quest, was heavily influenced by the traditions of native tribes in North America who would embark on vision quests to discover their place in their tribe. On these quests, the child would have a dream where their spirit guardian would come to them in the form of an animal. Mathew touches on this tradition while adding his own flavour, looking inside himself, walking one way with his guardian while considering the branching path leading in another direction.” Apart of Animal Logic, a Newcastle exhibition. 10% of the sale of any of the original works gets donated to Blackbutt Nature Reserve to assist in their eucalyptus plantations to create a better habitat for their Koalas. July 1st – July 24th. Anyone interested in purchasing an original, let me know. Charcoal and gesso on canvas / Approx. 64×85cm / $300 / 2009
