This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /
This piece was taken from a picture a friend took while visiting in Turkey. I saw the beautiful sunset and got such a feeling of warm, enduring friendship radiating off these men. I wondered if they had been meeting there for years, discussing politics or polices, each with their own voice, and respectful ears. About this painting: / Size: 12”x14” / media: colored pencils, graphite / materials: 140 lb bristol paper / subject: Men / Status Original: available from artist Note: Artist recommendation; best prints are achieved when print size is closest to the original size. Inspired by a recent chat with a pal here, I post a tribute to two pigs. May all know: they lived, if briefly, on planet Earth. I took shots of the pigs at an Oklahoma City auction house last weekend. The lovely pigs, wallowing beautifully in cool mud, were serene and intelligent. We tried to buy two charming, pink sisters who greeted us and were “people friendly,” but unfortunately, they had already been sold, for slaughter. This photo is the last they ever will be alive, on this, their finaly day. God speed, piggies.
Its always a little bit strange when you go into a room and see it like this, still oozing life from when it was last used. I can only imagine that this place was used for staff training, or perhaps learning and education for the residents.
Watercolor ( Daler-Rowney, Windsor and Newton, Da Vinci, Holbein) on Arches NOT paper. / I did this one a few years ago, the original is sold. / I think this was my first really successful beach painting.

Throwing shoes is a sign of disrespect in the Islamic world. There has been a rash of such attacks since an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at former U.S. President George Bush during a news conference in December. Was heading for Sydney to a Christian Womens Conference in March ‘06. We left well before the sun came up but the sky was starting to change colour. Luckily, I was sitting on the passenger side and caught this one through the window as we were driving along. It’s one of my all time favourites.

The Cloud vs. Bird Shirt-LOGO for the Web Directions 2008 Conference was offered to RedBubblians to remix the design as they wanted. I had to have a go at it because I knew I wouldn’t get to the conference. You can get the template to remix it by visiting the Web Directions site . Tag it with wds08 . This is my amended version. Still working on captions. Might leave it blank
Candid shot of some prion experts in the background and of my lab partner, William Taylor at our conference in Madrid. We were just having a bite to eat and a quick beer before diving back into work…
For any of you who spend hours on teleconferences… :-) (Sony a350, Sigma 17-70 @45mm, f:16, 0.6sec, ISO-100, PP in PaintShopPro) .

The NWFS Conference 2009 in Moreton-in-Marsh, England UK. Above two fire service women on a photographic training day. In 1993, the NWFS was established as a self-help group for women in the Fire and Rescue Service. Over the past 13 years, NWFS has sought to influence the equality agenda, engaging with the major players in order to have the voice of all women in the Fire and Rescue Service heard.

Idea from a sculpture by Novello Finotti exhibited in the Botanic Gardens, Leicester 2007.I enjoyed trying to capture the faults and craters in the bronze ; also the idea of these two men forever in conversation.
