We stopped to catch some shots of a waterfall on the roadside, as I walked towards the waterfall my attention was drawn to this wildflower. It stood so straight and tall and was blemish free. It is called a FOXGLOVE. It blooms in the SPRING of the year April – June. I got up close with my Canon EOS Rebel XT, and watched this ant come out of one petal and took this shot. It was taken with a 18-55 lens, 100 ISO, It was in the shade. This shot was taken as is. Digitalis is a genus of about 20 species of herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and biennials that are commonly called foxgloves. The genus was traditionally placed in the figwort family Scrophulariaceae, but upon review of phylogenetic research, it has now been placed in the much enlarged family Plantaginaceae.[1] The genus is native to Europe, western and central Asia, and northwestern Africa. The scientific name means “finger-like” and refers to the ease with which a flower of Digitalis purpurea can be fitted over a human fingertip. The flowers are produced on a tall spike, are tubular, and vary in colour with species, from purple to pink, white, and yellow. The best-known species is the Common Foxglove, Digitalis purpurea. It is a biennial, often grown as an ornamental plant due to its showy flowers, that range in colour from purples through to whites, with variable marks and spotting. The first year of growth produces only the long, basal leaves. In the second year, the erect leafy stem 0.5-2.5 m tall develops. The larvae of the Foxglove Pug feed on the flowers of Digitalis purpurea. Other Lepidoptera species feed on the leaves including Lesser Yellow Underwing. / The term digitalis is also used for preparations containing cardiac glycosides, particularly digoxin, extracted from plants of this genus. UPDATE: this shot won the award of first runner up in ISP’s amateur photographer of the year competition, held in Las Vegas, Nevada in March 2008. This is an independent judging competition, judged on subject, focus, composition, perspective, clarity, and presentation. August 2007, it was published on the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC WEBSITE.

LOL… our kitten “Daisy” entertaining my kids. We found Daisy at our local SPCA. We were not officially “looking” for a kitten but it was love at first sight. First my husband fell under her charm, then my kids. Then I came along and they know what a sucker I am, that was a it, she had a home. She even has a spotted belly… I have a major weakness for any furry critter with spots. I don’t know what it is about spots but hey, maybe that is how God planned for me to embrace the pets I have had throughout my life. She is one of many kittens that have come from the local population explosion. All the people foreclosing their homes and moving just leave their pets and they become strays. This of course leads to many, many, many baby cats and dogs… with no homes. Daisy is absolutely beautiful, her mama was a Siamese and she is a gorgeous orange and silver tortoiseshell. She is also the sweetest little ball of fur you could ever meet. Adopt a homeless pet this Christmas, if you can, and remember… HAPPY NEUTER YEAR !!!

The scene was one taken from a helicopter with a wide angle lens looking straight down the sides of the skyscrapers towards the street as they flew along. / / The first thought was how the scene had a very Escher type effect to it that I enjoyed. The second thought was of how people lived in New York… literally on top of one another. I am not the big city type, and would be very claustrophobic living in an environment such as this. I much prefer having wildlife and nature surrounding my home out here in the boonies. / / I wanted to try and capture both the perspective and the feeling of people being crowded on top of one another. This is what I tried to portray in this artwork. If Escher designed condominiums, this is what they would look like! LOL / / The original artwork is 6000×6000 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. It was created in Apophysis. The gradient was created in ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. / / / / / /
