Ok, first the good news: not only did the meeting with the barn members go well last night with many people expressing interest and taking cards but another horse barn owner asked me, yesterday afternoon, to be their official barn/show photographer! I’m thrilled; as I said in a previous post, the chance to combine my two passions of photography and horses and actually make a bit of money at it thrills me to pieces. But I am going to have to get a new camera. When I switched from 35mm to digital, I chose to get a camera with a fixed lense and very minimal manual options. The reason for that was both cost and the fact that the camera was enough to serve my purposes at the time, mainly taking quick shots of my wood sculpture for prospective buyers and my website. As I’ve fallen in love with digital photography, I’ve felt the ache of growing pains in that the camera no longer does what I want and I’m tired of take the shot and pray I got what I want. In other words, even if these jobs hadn’t presented themselves, I need more control. So, I’ve just about decided on a Nikon 200D-which is the best I can afford so please don’t tell me that I have to have a D3 or something similar because neither my checking account or credit card will take that. I plan on buying only the body and adding A Sigma lense-I say A because I can only afford one right now. And that is my question, is there one lense that I can get that will serve all of my purposes and shooting conditions? The conditions will vary widely. The people at the barn I met last night want outdoor shots of their horses natural and in the pasture. Which hallelujah! is what I love, love, love to do. Wonderful -hopefully natural light. The barn/show photographer job is quite different. It will be indoors, under varying lighting, and there will be both portraiture and action shots on the same night. Am I asking the impossible? And can those many, many photographers on this site who are both more talented, skilled, knowledgeable and experienced than newbie me offer an affordable answer to my quandry. / To any who have advice for me, I say thanks in advance. / ~Sande

Originally written as a response to this great t-shirt , it got so long it evolved… Love it. When they think your creative style is a condition, I say go with it. Us creative types have initiative, are innovative, are meticulous, can see all the details (and know how to either ignore or amend them), and can see outside the box. We see rainbows where others see rain, we see silhouettes when others only see darkness, we see opportunity where others only see work. I like this condition. / If it were a drug : I’d subscribe or grow my own. / If it were a drink : I’d get it on tap. / If it really were a disease : I’m waiting for it to mutate onward. I’m not lowering my standards to those of someone whose only excitement is finding crumbs in their keyboard, dust on the mantle or another F0xt3l channel. Life is about evolving: What will you be tomorrow?

Simon Whittaker wrote this regarding a woman fighting breast cancer, and I’ve offered to pass it along to you, my friends: / — / Simon Whittaker wrote you a BubbleMail 1 day ago: / This is a group BubbleMail, sent to all members of The Human Condition. / If you are only ever going to read a message from me, please make it this one. Hi everyone, Since joining the Human Condition I have been amazed by the quality of the images and the power and dignity these photos show. We see images of joy, content, sadness and misery – emotions that for better or worse define us as human beings. I have featured a work by Flipteez, a Human Condition member who is battling cancer. When I saw battling I mean fighting tooth and nail. Her photography follows her life and reflect this terrible condition. I featured “Cancer can kiss my wobbly arse’ and “Breast Cancer” because they typify her courage and her resolve. The specific reason I am sending this bmail to you is to ask you to look at these two particular peices and favourite them if you wish, let your favouritings show up on your watchlists and spread this message amongst our community and raise awarness of breast cancer, after all – we all have mums, sisters, aunts and friends.

It seems no matter why I try / Irony is always standing by / To thwart me as I try to stand / And send me crashing back to land I tried to go out and have one drink in a bar to celebrate with friends…I got stomped on…right on my ankle…right where the initial injury that caused my RSD happened. It hurt. A lot. You can read the whole story here: http://rellacafa.com

Hey Bubbling Buddies, I am so terribly sorry for neglecting you over the last month or so. I went in for a ketamine infusion in February, it kind of went badly and then I got really sick with a virus turned chest infection that would not quit…since then I have been dealing with flares that are more violent and restricting than usual. I am, sadly, not able to do much drawing or painting in this condition, having more trouble with my hands than I used to. I am looking at moving to a bigger place so I’m hoping if I can have all my art things set up then I will still be able to get there, a little bit at a time. I am still trying to keep my blog updated, spreading awareness is hugely important to me right now as I have tried most of the treatments available in Australia and yet my RSD/CRPS worsens…I really need a miracle right now! I noticed after I filmed my ketamine story that I had featured JC Saint Po’s 2009 calendar in the background, his work is awesome, loving having a new piece on the wall each month! http://rellacafa.com I will try and update this journal when I’m able and if my medicine rattled brain spews out any little poetic pieces I shall share them with you too. Hoping to catch up on your updates and artwork asap, I miss the way you keep me inspired! x
