  • Nothing compares to the experience of visiting a concentration camp, especially one of the most well known. I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of Auschwitz II – Auschwitz Birkenau, scenes of desolation stretched on forever. All that remains of hundreds of barracks buildings are the brick chimney stacks, as in this shot, they go on as far as the eye can see.

  • Planckendael zoo collection / Mechelen, Belgium This girl was actually following the stork, walking behind him in a very thoughtful, concentrated manner. Then, very unexpectedly, the stork took a full U-turn and went the opposite direction – and without a moment of distraction or hesitation, she followed him in his footsteps, making exactly the same U-turn… I pushed the shutter as they crossed… :) technical and post-editing details / Photograph made with Pentax K10D camera. / re-uploaded a an edited version – cropped and photoshopped tho make the background more blurry… / With special thanks to Ross Spencer, Kharmyne and Roger Miller for their help and suggestions to improve this image in the forum of the group Photography 101 – You can check on the different post-editing suggestions there :) features / This image was featured in Alphabet Soup (letter S) (Oct.10 , 2009) / Comments and feed-back always welcome.
