One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon—instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. / – Dale Carnegie Twenty4e Shop – deviantART Gallery – redbubble Portfolio / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

The total beauty of Alaska and its people is a passion of mine. / I just sold ten cards of the “Birth of Alaska.” / I am grateful to the buyer and to Redbubble for making it possible Note: All my digital art work is executed entirely with my mouse and Photoshop Elements’ brushes. It takes hours of concentration, patience and self control. Especially when the mouse wants to go right and you need it to go left! *When this happens , I reluctantly leave my office and go for a stroll in my garden. / That usually takes care of the problem and then, I get back to work :) *

Crown Jewel ~ inspired by the Taj Mahal, which is often referred to as / ‘Poetry in Stone’ The History of Lost Love / Shah Jahan of the Mogul dynasty was yet to accede the throne when he heard about the unsurpassed beauty of Mumtaz. He took Mumtaz as his third wife in 1612. For the next 18 years Shah Jahan and Mumtaz were inseparable. Shah Jahan took his wife along on every journey and war campaign. Over the years Mumtaz came to be his best friend, his critic and a canny political adviser. Mumtaz was expecting their 14th child when Shah Jahan embarked on a campaign against the Lodhi Empire in 1631. In the heat of the Indian summer, the army traveled to the Deccans. Mumtaz, who had accompanied the emperor, went through a rigorous childbirth. She died in Burhanpur. On her deathbed, she asked her husband to promise her that he would build a monument to their love. Legend has it that he locked himself in his room for eight days without food after Mumtaz passed away. After burying Mumtaz temporarily in Burhanpur, Shah Jahan went about constructing the Taj Mahal in right earnest. He summoned the best architects and artisans from far away lands like Multan, Kannauj, Lahore, Iraq and Persia. He arranged for the best marble from all around. It took 22 years, 22,000 people, 400 elephants and 32 million rupees to build the Taj Mahal. The result: an awe-inspiring structure, which is one of the most globally recognized symbols of grace and beauty. The Magnificent Monument / Built on a raised, square platform it is as tall as a 20-storey building. You enter through an imposing gateway. The complex consists of an elaborate garden set in the typical charbagh style, a mosque, a guesthouse and several other charming buildings. The mausoleum itself stands at the farthest end of the complex, right along the Yamuna River. The signature central dome (58 ft in diameter and 213 ft high) is truly magnificent and is echoed in the smaller domed chambers on all sides. The four slender minarets that rise from the corners of the mausoleum complete the picture of symmetry. The undisputed majesty and beauty is further reflected in the exquisite artistry created by inspired artisans from Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara. Exquisite floral patterns and calligraphy on both the exterior and interior were inlaid with precious stones such as jasper and agate. Quotations from the Koran were etched into stone archways; a pinnacle was set on the central dome; and thus came to life the most splendid resting place a lover could ever hope to find on this planet! By Ravi Kunjithai / Beautiful intricate abstract design bursting forth in hues of light blue and gray, yellow / orange, and even a hint of rose, all interspersed with lovely metalic golds. Digital Art This is all done from scratch. In Adobe Photoshop, I select a blank “canvas” then, I select a brush of my choice and start painting with my mouse. Not recommended if your patience is short! :) /

Or Why I hate my computer engineering job / A work in progress. Perhaps nothing encapsulates who we are better than the Soul of ~~. This statement of our values, beliefs and aspirations is at the heart of what makes us a great company. At the core of The Soul of ~~ are the members of our team who everyday, throughout the world, demonstrate our commitment to Customers, the ~~ team, Direct Relationships, Global Citizenship and Winning. Just an interesting effect I got by holding my thumb over the flash, PS’d a bit to make it look a bit more colourful. Copyright © 2008 Simon Deevy. This is a view of my wall behind my computer with the light coming through my blind in the afternoon. I love the little patterns it makes on the wall and I couldn’t decide which one I liked most so I had to make a triptych. I hope you enjoy it too!

After designing the print Revolution, I decided to do a small series of prints that payed tribute to some of the technological innovations of the past that have helped shape society (and myself) but have now become outdated and fallen into disrepair. The centerpiece of the Nostalgia print is an IBM Personal Computer AF, a machine similar to the first computer that I came in contact with. The Queen Anne’s Lace makes a return in this print (and all prints in this series) as a cohesive element and a symbol of antiquity. I used a retro fabric print pattern overlaying the design to add texture and a feeling of ambience accented by the distressing and aging techniques applied to the entire piece. Check out my design blog designbysolo.com to view photographs of a printed version of this and other prints. Let me know if you find an image that is not offered in this store that you are interested in purchasing.

Some say the world will end in fire, / Some say in ice. / From what I’ve tasted of desire / I hold with those who favor fire. / But if it had to perish twice, / I think I know enough of hate / To say that for destruction ice / Is also great / And would suffice. / – Robert Frost Twenty4e Shop – deviantART Gallery – redbubble Portfolio / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

Asteroids was a video arcade game released in 1979 by Atari Inc. It was one of the most popular and influential games of the Golden Age of Arcade Games. The objective of Asteroids was to score as many points as possible by destroying asteroids and flying saucers. The player controlled a ship that could rotate left and right, fire shots straight forward, and thrust forward. The player could also send their ship into hyperspace, causing it to disappear and reappear in a random location on the screen (with the risk of self-destructing or appearing on top of an asteroid). Each stage started with a few asteroids drifting in random directions on the screen. Objects wrapped around the screen edges. As the player shots asteroids, they broke into smaller asteroids which frequently moved faster and were more difficult to hit. Smaller asteroids also scored higher points. Periodically, a flying saucer appeared on one side of the screen and moved across to the other before disappearing again. There was a minimalist soundtrack featuring a memorable deep-toned electronic “heartbeat”, which quickened as the asteroid density was reduced by the player’s fire. Once the screen had been cleared of all asteroids and flying saucers, a new set of large asteroids appeared. The number of asteroids increased each round up to a maximum of twelve. The game was over when the player had lost all remaining lives.

“What do I want to take home from my summer vacation? Time. The wonderful luxury of being at rest. The days when you shut down the mental machinery that keeps life on track and let life simply wander. The days when you stop planning, analyzing, thinking and just are. Summer is my period of grace.” / - Ellen Goodman Twenty4e Shop – deviantART Gallery – redbubble Portfolio / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”
