Isn’t it great that we have such a cool community on here, bursting with creativity? / The vibe is great, the people are great, the artwork is exceptional. But don’t we all love a big old whinge every now and then? Well, I do, and I’ve been saving it all up for this one post. (Well it was either that or become the creature I love to hate!) Disclaimer: This is all just my opinion and I am but one person and don’t represent anyone except myself. And I’m being all one-sided and hypocritcal. And you may not like me very much… And arguing with me probably won’t work! Flooding Activity Monitors with Repetitive Art / I love that RedBubble allows us to upload as much of our art as we want, but seriously guys- do we really need 10 shots of the same thing from different angles? Or the same image with 6 different PhotoShop filters? Or would it hurt upload a big series in drips and drabs over a week so that we have time to appreciate each artwork on it’s own as well as for being part of the series? Irrelevant Comments / Artwork Commments are not opportunities to have MSN conversations. Nor is it the place to size up the models assets or ask what the artist is doing on the weekend. (Unless of course you happen to know the artist very well and know that they are cool with this sort of behaviour) Otherwise, it’s a place to talk about how great the finished artwork is and perhaps ask the artist more about it. Whinging about Everything / Yeah I know, I’m being a hypocrite, but just this one time. Don’t know about everyone else but I am so over reading journal entry after journal entry about every little thing that someone doesn’t like about RedBubble. If you’ve got a better idea than what’s currently in place- GREAT- put it in the feedback forum so that admin see it. Telling us about Every Single Sale you make / Yes, the first time you made a sale you were so unbelievably wrapped about it you wanted to tell the world. I totally get that. So you sold your first framed print and it’s a big deal, I get that too. So you made 50c selling a card… again- OK, I don’t need to know that. Especially if you are lucky enough to have regular sales. / - EDIT- Due to a really great suggestion, I’ve made a forum thread to publicly thank people for sales (By the way- no pressure to use it. It’s just there if you want it) Uploading Happy Snaps / I can see three reason why people do this. / 1) They want to have their happy snaps turned into RedBubbles totally awesome products. Who wouldn’t? But it’s totally possible to upload your happy snaps as “hidden” and you can still get copies printed for yourself. / 2) You want to join in with the challenges in the forums like the Spin Challenge and the Show and Tell your Pets thread. Yeah, I get that too. It’s all in the spirit of being friendly and building the community. But did you know you can copy an image into a journal or forum post while keeping it hidden? / 3) You have confused RedBubble with Flickr or Myspace and do not consider anything you have posted ‘art’, let alone sellable art. Being Creepy / Emailing and BubbleMailing artists with enthusiastic support is lovely. Getting creepy anonymous email is just… well… creepy. So just don’t do it. Blatent Self Promotion / You know what I’m on about. You get a comment- and boy, it’s a big one this time. Only it’s all about the artist who is commenting. They probably gave you three links back to their portfolio too. If they are really brazen they may have even posted an image. Or you notice that you have exactly the same comment as you’ve seen on 20 other artworks- yes- someone copy pasted that comment. They must love everything exactly the same. And then you think to yourself “Hang on a minute.” It’s just rude. Not Editing Forum Posts / I realise that we can’t edit comments under our images. But we CAN do it in the forums. Right under your name is a little link that says “Edit Post”. Please use it. I can’t get cranky about this because I realise not everyone knows how to do it. So lets help each other out. You can find info on how to link (And a bunch of other formatting things) here Comments That Detract From The Sale Of Artworks / Potential customers can read your comments so think about what you are typing before you hit enter. There is a reason it says “Play Nice.” If people want your critique or suggestions, they will post in the Critique Forum. Negative comments and even innocent suggestions to change an artwork can not only damage an artist’s fragil ego, it can make a potential customer question whether the artwork is actually as good as they first thought. Journal Entries Being Catagorised As “Writing” / We now have this wonderful ‘writing’ category to keep our super-dooper finshed written pieces in. Poems, stories, well constructed and artistic pieces of prose. It’s not just another journal. It’s for your special stuff. If you want to tell us about your weekend- keep it in your journal. Rant Over aaaahh. That feels better :) Now is the bit where I plead with you to remember this is just my opinion and you are welcome to disagree- you can even strongly disagree if you feel like it :)

I was shocked to notice that anyone can “Right Click” on any piece of “Red Bubble” art work/photographs and save to there desktop! or print off, or edit in any digital editing software, For members trying to sell their artwork/photographs on “Red Bubble” this situation is very unwelcome. Why has “Red Bubble” not incorperated a security code into our uploaded artwork to stop this activity!! All comments from other “Red Bubble” members regarding the above would be appreciated. Regards, Richard Utin.

  • Images of photographs are being treated as second rate here at Redbubble!

Many of you know that the great majority my work here is in the form of photographs of landscapes. You may not know that this kind of image is not presented to best effect here at Redbubble. They have been sharpened too much and the contrast is increased too, they also do not provide a very large preview of the image. This has hurt the essence of my work and means the hours I spend on it are for nothing. You can’t see what I see at home. I went to Redbubble and complained about this today and the short answer is this, they will do what helps the majority of images. Frankly I don’t think they are helping anybodies images at all. Perhaps this is just a T-shirt site and card boutique, but I don’t think they are helping those images either. Does anybody else feel this way? They just blew me off, after I spent over 400 dollars buying Christmas gifts here today. The quality of the prints is really good, the shirts are great, the cards are cropped too much but a good deal just the same. My beef is I think they are being cheap and won’t admit it when it comes to the presentation of our work. I think it could be addressed but won’t be. $$$ is why. What should I do? Leave? Start a mutiny? Suffer in silence as my work is obscured for no good reason? Let me hear what you think.

In Arizona we are use to not having Spring or Fall, but now no winter?! It is mid-November and the temperature is still in the 90’s. Usually by the time Thanksgiving comes around we at least have a chill in the air. But here we are talking about what size turkey to buy while wearing short sleeves and sweating. Some might think that sounded like paradise, no snow to shovel, but believe me, there is such a thing as too much Sun. A year with no rain and no relief from the rays can really make a person go insane.

  • TIRED AND ASKING WHY?
    by JaneAParis

sometimes i don’t like being human / because i don’t really think humans / are all that wonderful sometimes

This is about being tired of the negativity of humanity in general. And questioning why other people feel the need to abuse, hate, hurt, complain, and disrespect. Why do we need to destroy and hurt, instead of build and love.

    by Gregory John O'Flaherty

I know I’ve phoned before / Trivial complaints about the law / But when they come uninvited to my door / I think it’s right to phone some more

After years of complaints the Victorian State Government created the Office of Police Integrity, to oversee the operation of the Police Ethical Standards Department. From my own experience the result of any compliant, is further reason to complain. The person complaining is investigated, not the complaint; and they loose the files on them. / Put it in writing using a solicitor. Keep several copies. / I have no criminal record, and don’t intend doing anything to change that.

  • Where Did the T-Shirt Model Go?
    by Peter Horsman

That’s my question… Is there any information/notification as to why the image has changed that t-shirt designs are being shown again…

That’s my question… Is there any information/notification as to why the image has changed that t-shirt designs are being shown against? I really think the new images are bland and non-representative of how the design will look on the finished product. Sure, if you want to see how your design looks on an ironed out t-shirt laying on your kitchen table they’re fine, but if you want to see how they look on an actual person then they just don’t cut it. / I say to RedBubble – Bring back the old image of the guy or girl actually WEARING the t-shirt! Perhaps there was a bulletin explaining the reason for the change that someone could direct me to because it seems I didn’t get the memo on that one and it’s more than a little disappointing :o(

  • This good sized black bear came up the stairs to our upper deck where he sat on the railing with his arm around the bird feeder. I was only able to get this shot from above after he went back down the stairs. It was about 2:30 in the am. Better viewed larger.

  • This is a rhyming piece of prose. page 2 / CentreLink is the Australian Government department that handles Social Security matters. They took over the opperations of The Commonwealth Employment Service, and the Department of Social Security. / Between 1988 and 1995, I was applying for work through the Commonwealth Employment Service, while I was on Unemployment Benifits. I was applying for Clerical, Administraive and Bank Finance positions. I had worked for the Commonwealth Banking Corporation for 10 years so had enough experience, and good references. / Because The Commonwealth Employment Service, had it noted on their computer that I had a psychiatric condition, schizophrenia, they were not forwarding my applications to potential employers. I was shown the notations at the time. I was granted a Disability Support Pension in November 1995 for a psychiatric condition. I still wanted work. / When I learnt that this was illegal, and at the advise of the Ombudsmans Office, I lodged a claim on CES, for Direct Discrimination in employment under the Disability Discrimination Act. It was processed by CentreLink. They denyied my claim. I complained to the Ombudsman. The immediate result was to be sent on another medical review, by Centrelink. I had only had a review 14 months earlier. They were to be only done every 3 years. This is harrasment under the Disability Discrimination Act. This is my letter of Complaint to Centrelink. They also wanted my Mental Health File, and clinical notes. Mental Health Files are “Protected” documents under 2 state government, and 3 federal government acts. In another matter, Comcare, a Federal Government department that handles workers compensation matters for government employees, gave my mental health files to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, a privately owned bank. I had never worked for that bank. I had worked for the Commonwealth Banking Corporation, a government instrument. They are two different banks. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, under legislation, can not claim to be or claim to represent the Commonwealth Banking Corproation. The Privacy Commissioner, The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, the ex- Liberal Government and the new Labor Government don’t have a problem with this. / The Honourable Mr Kevin Rudd, and the labor party, when in opposition, made a big noise about Mr Rudds privacy being breached when details of his heart condition were made public. They were very upset. Not as upset as I am about, being discriminated against by government departments and the harrasment I received when I complained, about having a gun pointed at my head and my employer the federal government declinning the workers compensation claim that my doctors supported, And my ” Protected” health files being given to a private bank that I never worked for. I think thay are rewritting a few Acts at the moment to cover there back, at the moment.

  • I have to share this It has to be the funniest customer complaint letter ever written…It had me in fits of laughter. Enjoy! Simon

  • Color Pencil / John W. Waterhouse often ties Classical, Celtic, and Norse poetry and prose to his images: His paintings are beautifully inspiring. I still have not decided what I love more, Literature or Art. I have used a painting by Waterhouse as inspiration for my Drawing. The Lady Clare / For several weeks now, I have been participating in a Grace Group Workshop. In the workshop, there has been a revisiting of my youth and trying to make sense of the roles I play and played in relationships. One of the exercises in the workshop is to write a letter to someone who had harmed me when I was a child, and read it out loud to the others in the group. A catharsis of sorts, an open acknowledgment of a painful event and being heard, which is something I did not experience as a child. / In time, there is redemption. / I had already written a letter of complaint to those who had harmed me and still felt a impulse to write one to my sister, Annie, who was hit by a car and killed at age 16, when I was only 9 years of age. Survivors ’s guilt had haunted me for years. A complicated web of lies were hidden from me, for I was youngest child in the family. And only after the death of many involved was I given the truth of many a familial crime. / In many ways, I love the story of civil disobedience reflected in a play by Sophocles, titled “Antigone.” In my mind Antigone is the hero in the play because she dared to bury her brother even though the law decreed that act treason. But we do not know much about Ismene, the sister who survived the Tragedy. The following poem is a metaphor of the events involving the death of my sister and youth. Ismene’s Rant There she is. That stupid girl. / You went ahead and buried our brother. / Why did you not let him rot? / Look over there… and there… the dogs and birds would have had their way with him. / The earth would swallow him. / Lunging—leaping—turning of that soil / You knew the decree Instead, you just had to do the one thing that would send our uncle reeling / You drug Polynices from the street and carted him to his burial site. / I watched you / Pour out the libations / and I heard your wailing, / I stood there behind the trees. The soil Lunging - Leaping—Turning- Spinning / Don’t YOU see? You could hear her. / Far away / The wailing / screaming / They bound her, they took her. / Polynices was dead, and she buried him with that shovel. Now what Sis? / I hate you because now you are in a Poe’s tomb / Creon removed you, He bound you. / You buried yourself. / Now, I am here to pick up the pieces. / I hate you for doing that one defiant act. / You selfish bitch. /

This is really upsetting to me as after several attempts to get Red Bubble to put my money back into my PayPal account, nothing has been done. This has NOT been a “first” good buying experience for me and I just really don’t know what else to do. I have emailed RB probably 4 times and each time I get, ”....hopefully you will get it soon”. First it was because I didn’t give them enough time to print and get my card to me by Valentines Day, which, I might add was “supposedly” sent Feb. 5th. OK…maybe I DO buy that BUT now it is March 5th and still nothing has been done. NO MONEY…...NO CARD!!!! My last email simply asked to be reimbursed since it was so far past Valentines Day. This was about a week ago, still no response to my last email. I am really disappointed in RB with their handling of this situation and hopefully this isn’t a “norm” for them. Sorry…..just had to vent!!! Any suggestions are welcome.

Hello everybody. I just received a disturbing Bubble Mail accusing me of spamming someone with 50 Bmail. It’s from someone I’ve never talked to personally so the only way it could be legitimately happening inside Red Bubble is that someone has gotten into my account. Even that sounds weird these days because the new Bmail system – the one I waxed poetic about – shows what came from my address in “conversations”. I’ve got absolutely nada other than the complaint Bmail from this person. Please let me know if YOU get multiple Bmail, email, A-male (No, skip that one) from any source you believe is connected to me. Red Bubble removes people and accounts who spam and that could happen without warning if something is amiss and it isn’t discovered by the site admins before they turn to me as the culprit. It would be unbelievably sad to see so much work I’ve put into this site get deleted with the push of a button. But when someone makes such a serious complaint, response from Red Bubble will be swift, as it should be for ALL our protection. So, now that my day is REALLY getting thrilling, to cap off one GROOVY MONTH that’s not even half over yet, I hope to see all of you here continually for a long time to come. If not and the [poop hits the propeller], I’ll get message thru email to a few fellow Red Bubblers to post what happened (if I ever find out) and why (ditto). I’m about 41,000 hits into this place, making sales, hosting groups, meeting friends, learning stuff, and a ton more. I have no plans to depart unless Red Bubble denies my return but I have NO reason to think something THAT bad will happen, even if I take a nasty hit for someone’s Internet prank. I reported the Bmail myself and sincerely believe Red Bubble staff will find “What’s Goin On” without me singing Marvin’s song. LOL! Be well, all! PS When I type this people are gonna think I live in crime “hell” but there’s a helicopter circling my neighbourhood with that old familiar loud speaker demanding something I can’t quite make out with one ear and the windows closed. So in the off chance that I “assume room temperature” at the hands of a bad guy after I get booted for spamming but before I get a message to all of you, remember I believe in God and I’ll be looking down thru every single cloud to see what you’re up to. Be afraid. Be very afraid. not. hehehe!

Ok, so bubbles have fragile skin – that’s not really news to anyone. But we seem to think that RedBubbles are made from some sort of hardened plastic – which they are not. People make comments about RedBubble quality or the way the system runs or what you can’t do or …... well you get the gist. Some don’t like the frames, some don’t like the sharpening, some want new group features…... it goes on and on. The problem I see is that all of these complaints are wonderful fuel for bigger and better redbubbles. Don’t get offended Mr Bubbles (Red) because someone says they can buy the same or better quality cheaper elsewhere. Perhaps they can – if so, then there’s an opportunity. At worst, it’s a chance to highlight some feature or capability that those other manufactureres cannot deliver on. Don’t get offended Red (sorry, Mr Bubbles) when you spend weeks on a new look and some say it is boring – or confusing – or has just lost the most useful features. You’ve made some people happy so now you just have to figure out the best way of satisfying the others who were happy. Well, you have a baseline when they were happy to help. Don’t get offended Mr Red Bubbles when people expect you to market their work as well as gallery it, print it and deliver it. When we find a good restaurant, it’s only natural to expect everything to be good – even the parking. We don’t understand that it’s not in the original charter. The good news is that you have a wonderful challenge that can be picked up there, as well as the chance to help people to help themselves in terms of self-marketing. Don’t get offended Dear Arbee, when you think your hard work is unappreciated, when you feel you are not getting the sort of positive feedback you imagine you should, or when your profits are not pushing upwards at the speed that they deserve. You are just experiencing the same problems that we artists are experiencing. Finally, a quick note to the bubble blowers – that’s us, the artists, writers and appreciators (i.e. those who come to look and shop but not create). It’s a partnership. Play nice, encourage and work with those guys.
