Thanks to dogpriest for the title….... Many people struggle with the word ‘kindness’. / Many people feel that ‘kind’ people can be walked over, abused, hurt and treated badly. Why? Well, because they are ‘kind’ and they will not mind. They will forgive, as always, and still see the good behind the words and actions. ‘Kind’ people are seen as ‘soft’ and are often encouraged to ‘toughen up’. / Well…...in my experience, ‘kind’ people are not always born that way. Experience makes us that way – often bad experiences and a lot of pain, hurt and trauma. / I’m tired of being seen as ‘too soft’ and ‘too nice’, professionally, – to me there is no such thing. I have had enough pain, fighting and hurt in my life…now…I just want peace…and I just want to be…..me….....and let other people be…them…. / I don’t think I’m asking for too much. / Please read this and, the next time you think someone is being ‘too soft’ – look beyond the ‘kind’ face, listen beyond the words you hear and really feel… / you might find that you see them differently….and you might then understand where their compassion comes from. Kindness Before you know what kindness really is / you must lose things, / feel the future dissolve in a moment / like salt in a weakened broth. / What you held in your hand, / what you counted and carefully saved, / all this must go so you know / how desolate the landscape can be / between the regions of kindness. / How you ride and ride / thinking the bus will never stop, / the passengers eating maize and chicken / will stare out the window forever. Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness, / you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho / lies dead by the side of the road. / You must see how this could be you, / how he too was someone / who journeyed through the night / with plans and the simple breath / that kept him alive. Before you know kindness / as the deepest thing inside, / you must know sorrow / as the other deepest thing. / You must wake up with sorrow. / You must speak to it till your voice / catches the thread of all sorrows / and you see the size of the cloth. / Then it is only kindness / that makes sense anymore, / only kindness that ties your shoes / and sends you out into the day / to mail letters and purchase bread, / only kindness that raises its head / from the crowd of the world to say / it is I you have been looking for, / and then goes with you every where / like a shadow or a friend. http://www.philadelphia33.org/ Jesus He called my name. For all who are Christian, those who have been born again and received Jesus as lord and Saviour, there was a time when you heard Jesus Call your name. A time when you knew that The Lord loved you and wanted your heart. This is what I mean when I say He called my name. for those who have read my personal testimony, you will know that he called my name. When I was a chronic Alcoholic, gambler and one who practiced witchcraft. *. Due to the requests of friends I have met via Redbubble, I have decided to share with you, how the lord called me to serve him in Africa. A call to service. [As the Lord lives and is true and holy, I certify that what you are about to read is a true account of how Jesus called me into Missionary Service. This is still as fresh in my memory today as it was when this incredible event took place in my life] On Friday 26th August 1994, I was troubled in my spirit all day. I sat and watched Television and read a book, but yet I felt God wanted to speak to me, but I did not know what he wanted. So my wife said to me that I should just go to the park and pray. It was 6.05pm in the evening when I arrived at the park, and I parked my car and started to walk around the park. / I was walking and looking at the swans on the pond and praying at the same time. Then with not warning at all, I became aware that someone was walking close behind me. I did not look back, but knew someone was behind me. I continued walking along a narrow footpath and as I did I felt a person’s hand holding mine. There was no fear or indeed any desire to look to see who this was that was holding my right hand. / It was very strange looking back now to why I did not want to see who it was. This would have been anyone’s reaction at the time. I felt warm and at peace, not knowing that It was *Jesus who was the one actually holding my hand. I was Praying in the Spirit [speaking to God in the gift of tongues]. Then Jesus said my name, Trevor. It was the softness and Love in his voice that caused me to look and as I say my Masters face, I knew that It was him. He did not need to tell me it was Jesus. When Jesus comes to you my friend, you won’t need any introduction or explanation, for you will know it is the King of kings that has called your name. In an instant tears my friend flowed down my face, and I was crying like I have never cried before. My emotions were overwhelmed with sadness and sorrow, because his eyes were filled with tears also and he was quietly weeping. Here was my Jesus holding my hand and he was crying. I could not understand why I was not jubilant with Joy. His sorrow pierced my very fibre of my being. By now, I was transported away from all consciousness of being in the park on a bright summer evening and we were in a dark place. The Only way I can describe this pace is to use a well as an example. Imagine a deep round stone well, empty, and you are at the bottom of it. It is very round and very wide. So can hardly see the other side of it, and you can just make out the huge stones that form the round sides of it. It’s dark at the bottom and you cannot see any light, except the light that emanates from Jesus Garments. This is how it seemed at that point. As I Gazed into his face, he spoke these words to me. / “Trevor, My Son, I want to show you something, do not be afraid my son for I am with you”. There was a short silence as these words took hold of me. He gently squeezed my hand and began to walk forward in this dark place. As we went forward, he was still weeping, and I could hear voices in the distance and different kinds of noises, like doors opening and closing, and A smell that I had never experienced before. I was crying as the Passion and sorrow of Jesus seemed to flow into my heart. It was so hard to carry such sadness and I have never experienced this before or after. Then I began to see people at my left side and all were chained to the walls and terrible sores were all over them, and all were shouting things at Jesus. I could not make out what they were saying, but Jesus was crying and weeping. The smell was terrible and there were some that when they say him cried as well. As we went forward the light that was so white lit up the side and a little ahead. The place was so big and wide I could not see the other ends. Then he again spoke to me “Trevor my Son, Do not be afraid”. I was scared, but his words just melted away any fears I had. We then came to a place where I saw am Casket alone and as we walked pass, a man spoke and said “Jesus, Why have you let me come here?. Jesus with tears answered him and said “Judgement has been set”. Again the man shouted at him and started to explain to Jesus that he was a pastor and that all his life he served Jesus and Preached and give to those in need. Jesus said again to him, “Judgement has been set”. / / All the time Jesus was weeping and I was looking at Jesus all the time, and I never did see the man, but knew he was a man, because of his voice. Again the man pleaded with Jesus and told him many other good things he had done and as he was talking, Jesus raised his other hand and stopped the man from speaking. Then Jesus said to the man, “ I sent you warnings, I sent messengers to warn you and you did not repent, for the woman you slept with was not the wife I had given you, and you died in your sins, therefore Judgement has been set”. Jesus was very sad, and began to lead me further into this dark and cold place. Then we came to another place like a very large open place with walls so thick and wide and there were like empty prison cells all around. One cell stacked upon another and I could not see where they ended, and they were so high. Then Jesus knelt down on his knees and was now crying and I could feel his body shaking. All this time he was still holding my right hand. I stood beside him with tears flowing down my face and my heart was breaking with compassion and sadness for my Lovely Lord Jesus. I then knelt down beside him and wanted to hold him close, but I was so troubled to see My Lord cry like this. Then I asked him the only question I asked through all of this. “Lord, why are you crying, there is nobody here?. In what seemed like a long time we both cried and cried. Then still kneeling, Jesus looked deep into my eyes and said, / “This Place is prepared for all those who do not know my name”. / As I looked all around, I now could hear screams and fluttering wings and rustlings above our heads high above where we were. I saw in the darkness shadows of what I can only describe as winged demons, hellish beings flying about. Jesus was weeping so hard and as he stood up, I was still on my knees. He looked into my face and said to me “My Son, Go to Africa, to the villages and proclaim my name among the people, Go tell them who I am and that I love them, and I will be with you each step you take” Then Again suddenly, as if no time passed, I was back in the park. The first thing I became aware of was that I could not feel his hand in mine. I cried and begged him to come back again, and I remember saying Lord there is so much I want to ask you. The Holy Spirit then opened the eyes of my understanding and I realised that God had allowed me to have a vision where Jesus came and called my name. Where he had appeared to me and called me for service. I was deeply shaken and all they way back to my car, I was worshipping my lord in tongues [heavenly Language]. How I drove home, I do not know, and as I told my wife and we both just praised God and give thanks. I told my pastor the following day Saturday 27th August 1994, and the response are you sure it was Jesus. I was upset and few in the church the following day had any encouragement. So On Monday 27th August 1994 I went to my local travel agent and asked how much a ticket would be for Uganda. As a boy in School we had a visiting teacher from Uganda. I marvelled at the little round huts they lived in and the photographs she showed us was amazing. So I settled it that Uganda was the place God wanted me to go. The ticket was £530.00. I had no money so I sold my car. I was determined to get to where Jesus sent me and do what he told me to do. All this time and even now. I still see my Lord and the love in his beautiful eyes. Yes I still cry and know someday I will be with him forever. I Got the exact money from the sale of my car. It was then that the Church saw that I was committed to following my lords Commission. A Little money came in and I went to Africa on Saturday 24th September 1994. I arrived in a country where I knew nobody. I asked the taxi driver at Entebbe airport to take me to a Christian Guesthouse. He took me to marimba Guest house. That evening as I lay alone in my little room, a house girl knocked my door. She asked if I would like to attend a church. I was so happy. The following Day I who knew nobody was preaching to a Church of Over 2000 people. That evening I was speaking at Chief of Police Wedding anniversary, and in that audience were Government officials, and others. The following week I was given a small house to live in free of charge, a Vehicle and driver, and the mission to extreme poor and isolated villages was born. Since that time I have dedicated my whole life to Preaching the Gospel in remote areas of Africa, South India and have never had a salary. I have trusted and depended on God to meet my needs and that of my family. There have been and still are difficulties in rising the cost of Travel, But God always blesses me with Good people whom he has given a passion and heart to pray for these precious children and to sow financially into his work. This is how the Lord called me to service. I pray It will bless and inspire you. Thank you to all who have asked me how God called me to be a missionary without having a job to fund it. Isa 49:5 [COMMON ENGLISH BIBLE] Even before I was born, the LORD God chose me to serve him and to lead back the people So the LORD has honoured me and made me strong. Evangelist Trevor Irwin. Today we released our first new site-wide challenge The City. This is the latest RedBubble publication where we aim to showcase the best visual and written work on the Web. A TShirt Competition is also on the way. “The City” is open to all works that explore the complex, vibrant world of concrete, glass and humanity that are urban environments all over the world. The best works will be selected for publication in “The City” to come out in November and available for sale through RedBubble. We publish these books regularly as a way for the RedBubble community to showcase their work in a professionally presented and designed book working with a copy editor. It’s one way RedBubble provides opportunities for professional development for its members. Visual works are entered directly into this challenge. from works in your portfolio and then voted on. The top works will be selected for publication. To enter written works go the group RedBubble The City and follow directions. Written works will be shortlisted and voted on by a group of judges. The top written and visual work will receive $US 250 in cash each and a $US 250 RedBubble voucher. Each of the published works will receive a $US 40 voucher to purchase work on RedBubble. We will be increasing the frequency of publication to be able to showcase more of the work on RedBubble and to cover more themes. So expect an announcement soon about what the next publication will be. We are aiming to make the publications, collectible (but affordable) which will mean relatively limited editions and consistent formatting. “Compassion” the most recent publication will be out soon.

Well at last. It gives me great pleasure to announce (virtual drum roll…) that as a result of selling cards, prints, t-shirts, photos, caps etc etc etc I have raised and just officially donated 1,320 smackas to HEAL Africa and Hand Up Congo. Many of you guys know I’ve been doing this for the last year after traveling there with an AID Group as a volunteer photographer. I’m stoked that I have been able to pay for 3 fistula operations (did anyone see the doco on the ABC last night?) – this will directly affect three women whose lives have been shattered by war rape. If the operations work they will be able to return to their villages an ‘equal’ citizen (well equal for a woman). The money will also go to restoring sight to a Congolese woman with severe cataracts and there was enough left over to buy 4 mosquito nets and associated mozzie destroyers! I just want to thank all those on RB who’ve supported the cause. There are too many names to mention… But I will mention…Jo O’Brien who regularly highlighted my pleas in the community page (hey how about this one too O’Brien!!) John Robb who invented ‘The world’s most expensive card’ campaign, all the Melbourne crew who encouraged me at meetups (those few I’ve gone too…) Bec Zachariah my room mate in Africa…all the people from OS who have bought stuff without knowing me (probably because they don’t know me!!) Anyway thanks from my heart. And their hearts. They have them you know. That’s why we need to keep fighting the good fight. Peace. xx healafrica.org

  • REVIEW: Compassion, Courage & Friendship Publication

Pulling up my driveway I noticed a little note on my front door from the Post Office. I quickly grabbed the note, reversed out and drove down the road to collect whatever was waiting for me at the other end. I had no idea what it could be! Then, to my surprise it was the long awaited publication Compassion, Courage & Friendship! Excitedly, I carefully opened the folded cardboard and pulled out the shrink wrapped book. After removing the plastic, I pulled the book out from the dust-cover and stared at the front cover. It was stunning. What hit me first was the fantastic composition of the images, merged onto the matte print front cover, with the beautiful sweeping yellow hues. As I opened the book I smelt that sweet aroma of the fresh print. I quickly flicked through the 77 lush pages. In that quick skim, I noticed contrasting black and whites, deep poems and stories and beautiful artworks adorned by colour. I knew I was in for some great book reading. Before settling in with a nice cup of mocha, I recharged my camera and decided to share my finds ‘as I go’ with the Redbubble community. I ventured into the backyard, to soak up the last few moments of the sun hitting the foliage. As I studied the pages more closely, I noticed the 2 types of unique typography that bestowed the titles. I was really impressed by how much care had gone into the layout and crop areas. As a self-taught website/poster designer, I know how difficult this can be with multiple size and colour images. After taking multiple photos, I decided it was time to put the camera to rest and give this publication the attention it deserves, with what little sunlight I had left. Overall, this fantastic ‘coffee-table’ publication is a definite keeper. It is beautifully crafted, displays a large variety of imagery, stories and poems from many artists and will lead people back to the amazing website that compiled this compassionate, courageous and friendly piece of ‘art’. You can pick up your copy when it goes on sale this coming THURSDAY. Don’t miss out!

RedBubble claims to be an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world, but with the new RedBubble book publication ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it might leave people wondering where this creative genius got to in this instance. Mind you, the only people left wondering will be the people that haven’t got their grubby little hands on ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, everyone else will be enthralled as they flip the pages and allow themselves to be reduced to tears, anger, laughter, smiles, and deep thought time and time again. At first sight, ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’ seems like the perfect collectors item. A perfect square measuring 21.5 cm in all directions, and the spine labelled with the source and title, it would seem that the exterior design was thought through for the avid book collector. It’s not only bright and airy, but the aesthetics of the cover make you feel at ease and loved. Now sitting on the train and heading to college, I manage to be publicly seduced and buckle to the passionate gestures of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’. The exquisite craftsmanship continues, with each captivating image and inspiring literature, matching perfectly to tell a story that might otherwise be lost. Someone made an effort and it certainly shows. The typeface has also been perfectly selected to match the theme and only add to the experience, it isn’t distracting and I don’t have to squint or learn another language to read it. Sure there are plenty of thought provoking images to immerse yourself in, but I say it once again, the literature that accompanies is a match made in heaven. Don’t take my word for it though, because as I sit here on a peak hour train critiquing ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it seems I have some new-found friends reading along with me. The IT guy to my left, the somewhat hungover looking blondie to my right, and the people I can’t see but can feel breathing on my neck behind me (I know you’re there). I do have one hang up though, and it could be one of personal preference, but I was disappointed that the links to each artist where at the back of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, as opposed to being directly beneath the featured art or literature piece. It might sound picky, but as a matter of convenience, it would allow the reader to more freely access their favorite artist or writer and go view their other works online. The works from the RedBubble community collected in this book illuminate the power of Compassion, Courage, and Friendship. They show us that when we go beyond our fears and truly see someone different to us, we look at something that can set us free. In concluding this review, I asked Sandra Iov, a fellow photography student to critique two images in ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, and here are her two favorites and an explanation of why: I Dreamt Of An Angel II by chrisdade “I like the contrast between the straight lines and the sharpness of the surroundings in comparison to the softness of the skin and shadows of the boys. I like the idea that although they may be perceived as homosexuals, it plays against the idea of their sin with the angel wings. It says what they do is not a sin.” – Sandra Brothers by Jinx “The older boy is keeping the younger brother safe from the darkness in the background. The bridge leads to the unknown and they look like they’re about to take that journey together. The contrast between the light on the boys and that of the forest is powerful.” – Sandra

  • They Are Suffering Too!!! (Can you Help?)

It has been overwhelming to see the instant support and compassion fellow Aussies have shown to the victims of the fires in Victoria. The money and assistance coming in is simply amazing. And I feel such warmth and kindness flowing in from all corners of the world! Thank you so much to everyone for your open hearts and willing hands! The shiny side of humanity is really evident at times like these. But there are millions of silent victims that are being overlooked by the majority of those who are helping or raising funds, and they are the creatures of the Australian Bush, and the domestic animals, left burned, scarred, and without homes after the fires. It is an horrific fate for them. For those who were killed, their suffering is over and they are in a better place, but for the many who survived and are still out there, desperately in need of veterinary care, water, food, and just some kindness…. their need has never been greater. It is up to us to recognize and help them in whatever way we can. / Donations of money to the various wildlife organizations is one way to do this, if you cannot go and help in person. A group of wonderful people here on Redbubble have set up a Wildlife Appeal site similar to the Phoenix Appeal where Redbubble members can donate pieces of art with the proceeds going directly to the wildlife fundraisers. Please check out this site and try to donate a piece of art. The creatures need us to help them too, and they don’t have the media to bring their plight to the world as the humans do. They suffer in silence. And it breaks my heart. I have pledged the proceeds of sales of all my art from my InAWE pages to this cause and hope that others might do likewise. If you wish to donate art, just bubblemail the wildlife appeal and get the address to send the images to. They do not have to BE of wildlife or animals…any artwork will be greatfully accepted…... then just help by spreading the word to others about this second means of supporting those whose lives have been burned by the fires. Thank YOU!

As many of you who have read my previous journals know I am with a few other huge hearted photographers and artists, donating the proceeds from sales from our work at the wildlife-appeal / The agency we are helping, the Wildlife Rescue and Protection Inc (WRAP), has some animals that need to be “adopted” / The caregivers (carers) that are trying to help these animals with the injuries they sustained from the bushfires that raged thru Victoria and surrounding areas. I have been emailing with Racheal on how we can help get these animals adopted. Right now there are only 6 left, but she did state there will be more to come. This is how it would work. As with any sponsorship with children, zoo animals, and pets, you would recieve a certificate of adoption, updates, and photos every three months. / If you cant do this yourself, I cant plead with you enough to pass this on, eventually there will be someone that can help out with the animal survivors of Black Saturday. For those of you already involved with adoption programs, please pass this on to your friends and everyone else. I will be contacting local businesses and some schools in my area to see if they would like to adopt one of these amazing animals, you can do the same. To learn more about this, please go HERE / From Rachael, WRAP, the wildlife-appeal, every single person that is helping us with pledges and donating their work and myself. / Thanks so much…just pass this on.

You have to love PayDay and I am very very happy to report making the first donations to WRAP from the wildlife-appeal account. First we all want to thank Everyone for donating their beautiful work, the buyers who bought things to help us out, and of course the people on the Wildlife-Appeal group, who have started contacting us to make their pledged donations on behalf of the wildlife-appeal. Without everyone helping out as they are doing, this donation to help those animals who are still fighting for their life from the bushfires of Feb. 7th, 2009 wouldnt have happened. / I didnt realize the currency exchange when I put in the amount of the donations, so this was done in three parts to get to the amount for US dollars that was switched to AUS dollars. Really need to get myself a currency exchange chart around here. / From what was sent, it totaled up to $275.00 AUD from the wildlife-appeal account. / The donations sent from people who donated their proceeds totaled up to $68.00 AUD / Bringing our total to date 03/05/09 to $343.00AUD I think this is an outstanding start to the appeal we have all chosen to participate and support. Everyone should feel proud and feel like they did, have and Are making a difference in helping! This cause by no means is over. We still need to get the word out. As the fires in Austalia seem to die down, it doesnt mean all is over and done with. There are many who still need our help. Many animals and people. Luckily for the human side of this tradegy the outpoor of help has been amazing from all around the world. But we cant forget our silent victims, who will be wondering where their food is, where their homes are. It will take months and probably years until their life is back to “norm” / So please pass on the word for this cause to everyone, anyone you feel is interested. These are random images she has sent us, in no particular order. We know its been over a month since this tradegy has happened in Victoria. Hello Precious friends. I have now come back from India Mission where I was working with Indian gypsies. These precious people are outcast from society and called and treated as untouchables. God truly has heard their cry. I have many new photographs and testimonies. Please be patient as it will take some time to upload them. I may open a new India Mission site here. I will add a link on my profile page soon. Africa is still my main mission filed, but after prayer, and guidance from the Holy Spirit I have agreed with Gods permission to raise awareness and help these precious suffering outcast people. Full details will follow. Thank you my dear friends for your Prayers and donation. Each adn every one of you are of immense value to me and Gods care of the poor and outcast. I will make a full report as soon as I can. I love you all. Trevor. http://www.philadelphia33.org/ :http://www.redbubble.com/people/joshuatree1

Gabriel Garcia Marquez – Nobel prize winner for literature 1982 / Gabriel has terminal cancer, and this is a letter to all his friends. If God, for one second, forgot what I have become and granted me a little bit more of life, I would use it to the best of my ability. I wouldn’t possibly say everything that is in my mind, but I would be more thoughtful of all I say ………. I would give merit to things not for what they are worth, but for what they mean to express.. I would sleep less, I would dream more, because I know that for every minute we close our eyes, we waste sixty seconds of light. I would walk while others stop; I would awake while others sleep. If God would give me a little more life, I would dress in a simple manner, I would place myself in front of the sun, leaving not only my body, but my soul naked at its mercy….. To all, I would say how mistaken they are when they think that stop falling in love when they grow old, without knowing that they grow old when they stop falling in love. I would give wings to children, but I would leave it to them to learn how to fly by themselves. To old people I would say that death doesn’t arrive when they grow old, but with forgetfulness. I have learned so much with you all, I have learned that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, without knowing that true happiness is obtained in the journey taken and the form used to reach the top of the hill. I have learned that when a newborn baby holds, with its little hands, his father’s fingers, it has trapped him for the rest of his life. I have learned that a man has the right and obligation to look down on another man, only when that man needs help to get up from the ground; Say always what you feel, not what you think. If I know that today is the last day that I am going to see you asleep, I would hug you with all my strength, and would pray to the Lord to let me be the guardian angel of your soul…… If I knew that these were the last moments to see you, I would say “I love you”. There is always tomorrow and life gives us the opportunity to do things right, but in case I am wrong, and today is all that is left to me, I would tell you how much I love you and that I will never forget you. Tomorrow is never guaranteed to anyone, young or old, today could be the last time to see your loved ones, which is why you mustn’t wait; do it today, in case you will be sorry you wasted the opportunity today. To give a smile, a hug, a kiss, and that you were too busy to grant them their last wish. Keep your loved ones near you, tell them in their ears and to their faces that you need them and love them. Love them and treat them well; take your time to tell them “I am sorry, forgive me, please, thank you”, and all those loving words you know. Nobody will know you for your secret thoughts. Ask the Lord for wisdom and strength to express them. Show your friends and loved ones how important they are to you. Send this letter to those you love. If you don’t do it today….. tomorrow will likely be yesterday, and if you never do it, it doesn’t matter, either, the moment to do it is now. For you with much love, Your friend, Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Isn’t it amazing? It seems it was 1970 j…

Isn’t it amazing? It seems it was 1970 just three days ago…... / The 70’s was a monumental time for me personally, graduating from high school, venturing off to explore the world, marrying my first husband, experiencing the miracle of the birth of my first child, surviving an almost fatal car accident and almost simultaneously suffering the sudden death of my beloved Father, which left a vacant gaping wound in my heart that took years to heal…...... as well as experiencing devastating emotional and physical abuse and a heartbreaking divorce…. The 70’s was a time of innocence, and a loss of innocence. .. yet, I learned so much and I have no regrets. I became independent, reevaluated my belief system, shed my childhood conditioning, totally redefining my life as I discovered my own personal and spiritual values defining who I am, what I stand for and what I believe. I returned to my childlike innocence. I embrace my rich and dynamic cultural heritage, opened my eyes and my heart and embraced other cultures and languages as well. I am grateful for every experience, for every lesson I have learned from every person I have met and I am grateful for every good thing that has happened in my life. Fast forward to the 80’s with several moves on the mainland from the east coast to the west and all points in between, with several transcontinental moves, enjoying several years living in Europe, exploring other countries and mastering foreign languages. The 80’s was a time of enlightenment, a time for spiritual ascension and moments of profound revelations, a new marriage, delighting in the births of two more beautiful children. And the music of the 80’s was awesome. I especially loved U2. The 80’s was prime time for me. I wish I looked now like I looked in the 80’s with long thick auburn hair and flawless ivory skin. :)))) It was a decade of working and playing and personal growth and realizing that I could create my own reality as I followed my dreams. The 90’s were certainly interesting. Another divorce. I devoted most of those years as well to nurturing my young children and refining my career. Imagine my surprise and dismay when my Irish heritage manifested itself as my rich auburn hair transformed virtually overnight to a platinum blonde. It is still a surprise each time I look into the mirror. It was a time of tremendous sacrifice as well and often times I worked three jobs as I explored many interests and tried so hard to maintain a good balance in my life. Such as Time flies and the last decade certainly seems to have breezed by as if in a dream. From the year 2000 to 2009 so much has happened I could publish a book and it would probably be a best seller for the places I have been, the people I have met and the things that have happened are so fascinating. I am so amazed that it is now the year 2010. So much has happened this last year. I was single and independent almost 19 years when I met Jacob. And now this year Jacob and I celebrated our first year of marriage. I have met hundreds of members of our family on his side here on Maui. Most everyone on Maui is related to us. If they are Hawaiian, they are probably our ohana. :)) We have made many new friends and lost a couple of frenemies :)) You know who they are, the ones who pretend to be your friends, but they are really your enemy and when you have a disagreement they only do their best to slander you and bring you down as they project and impose their own personal opinion, belief or value system on you without regard for your truth or your heart. The true friends who remain have my best interests at heart, as I do theirs, and they help to protect my heart. I am grateful for my true friends. We have experienced some tragic very sad events as well. It certainly hasn’t been all fun in the sun. We have also buried many of my husbands family and life long friends in 2009. Through it all we face each day our own mortality. Every day we realise, we remember and acknowlege that each day is a gift. / We focus on the good things in life. Yet, most of all we have had tremendous fun and enjoyed many wonderful, some truly extraordinary experiences here on the island. For me personally it has been educational in so many ways. No one can really know the Hawaiian culture unless you are submerged in it. You may come here on holiday and explore the island, shop the beautiful galleries and gift shoppes, see the sights and explore the ocean, the seacliffs, the cloud forests, the rain forests and the many beautiful beaches, yet to truly know Hawai’i and understand this magnificent culture, you must live here. I try to share this beauty with all of you through my imagery. I am so happy to hear from you when you leave a note and let me know my work and the splendid poetry I search for and attach to my images to breathe life into them speaks to your heart. / / On another happy note, in a couple of weeks my son and his wife will be welcoming the birth of their first child, a precious baby girl. She will be my fifth grandchild and Jacob’s tenth. Imagine that, between us we have 15 grandchildren. Wow. My son is my youngest child and I cannot explain how I feel knowing he will soon be holding his own child in his arms. If I could wave my magic wand she would be born here on the island. How I wish we could, it would be so wonderful as I have not seen my children in three years and I would love for this child to be born on Maui. I have three beautiful talented children. My oldest daughter (the one I grew up with) is married with 4 beautiful children. My second daughter is still single (thank God) and attending university studying to be a graphic designer. And my son is having a child. I miss them all so much and I love them more than my own life. Jacob has 7 beautiful children, and we are truly blessed, for our children are our legacy and they are our greatest gifts in life. To all our family and friends, we wish you love and sweet compassion. We wish you tremendous success and every happiness. May you all enjoy a fabulous new year!!! / / Aloha oukou / E pili mau na pomaika`i ia `oe / `Okole maluna Jacob and Sharon Mau /
