A pet or companion animal is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment, as opposed to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic reasons. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, or for their song. Pets also generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits; keeping pets has been shown to help relieve stress. There is now a medically-approved class of therapy animals, mostly dogs, who are brought to visit confined humans. Walking a dog can provide both the owner and the dog with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction.

Companion dog usually describes a dog that does not work, providing only companionship as a pet, rather than usefulness by doing specific tasks. Many of the toy dog breeds are used only for the pleasure of their company, not as workers. Any dog can be a companion dog, and many working types such as retrievers are enjoyed primarily for their friendly nature as a family pet, as are mixed breed dogs.

well.. at first i wasnt sure if it was ok to upload lucia as a t-shirt.. but then.. she ok-eyed it and so here she is. lucia is one of my guides.. as you can see from the look on her face.. she is a very impish, cheerful guide…. and she is not one of the quiet ones. she bubbles with laughter, is full of ideas, creativity, good humour and cheer. she cant stand/sit still.. is always in motion .. and is a sunny and happy ‘companion’. i am glad to have her. :))
