Ballymun housing estate on Dublins Northside in 1995. A community that was plagued with drugs and drug dealers and of course poverty and apathy. There was more than a few suicides by leaping from the balconies and stairwells of the flats. A governments dream for low cost housing in the 1960´s when they cleared the inner cities. Ireland was not ready for this type of housing as it was not a bungalow on an acre of land front and back and it was therefore systematically neglected. In many ways “The Flats” were ahead of their times and those living there suffered because of it. That said Ballymun had & has a great sense of community and pride sadly lacking in many “better-off” housing estates. Now scheduled for demoliton, three of these towers, all named after leaders of Irelands 1916 armed rising against British rule, still stand. Here there be neighbours.
Radio mast against the sky in Bourne, Lincolnshire. / / Part of the series Against the Sky / /
Part of series “Earth Watch”. Airbrush and acrylic.
2008 Copyright. All Rights Reserved to Mariam Muradian. This Outdoor Series was created during the time that my Feral Child and Feral Woman were emerging. I had a claustrophobic time being inside anywhere…even my own house. I could only BREATHE outside. So I spent many days and nights outside. I moved my studio outside. I painted outside only. This series of paintings, I am convinced, cannot live indoors because it will choke the life out of them and they will die; so this series is prepared with heavy heavy sealants to live outdoors forever. I place each one very carefully in their “chosen” place. Each must be a compliment in the truest sense of the word to nature. You can never out-create nature. The series can be vibrant and subdued at the same time, depending on its environment. So once each has found their interconnected, noncompetitive place in the landscape, I watch. I enjoy watching these outdoor paintings live their life! How they communicate and play and change with the light, the blooms, the seasons! It is wondrous to witness! Their subtle variations and transformations are always perfectly, proportionately in sync with nature’s doings. Truly awesome! My ART has reached a Nirvana of sort in this context. It feels so right in my soul. Now you know why I must LIVE outdoors and garden and paint! I have never before felt such passion, such joy, and such inspiration! I continue to paint for this series. I will continue to take photographs of these art pieces as they change, as different colored blooms come to surround them. You must see! Thank you for looking and reading about this ongoing process of healing in my life. Please do comment, as I would love to hear how this effects the Beholder. Thank you. Outdoor Art Series 1L Gate (description for context): to the immediate right of this piece is the trellis gate leading to the backyard gardens. And immediately right of that is the companion gate art piece flanking the other side. Growing and climbing up this art piece is ivy and a wisteria with silvery white/lavender flowers. To the left of the piece is a huge true red rhododendron bush/tree. And to the left of that, a twin royal purple rhododendron bush/tree. More toward the ground in this same area is green grass with assorted colorful wildflowers, and running perpendicular to the fence is a bed of large white daisies/yellow centers and yellow tulips. I am just so grateful that I can SEE! That my vision returned from blindness, along with my color vision. That I am alive at all! A miracle and a blessing! See the others in the series /

This young child showed no fear at confronting such a large animal. Instead seemed to stand transfixed as if in telepathy with it. View in larger format, please.

You’ve heard their strange atmospheric black mindscapes at myspace.com/mergeintostripes and http://blackholedisco.blogspot.com/2007/12/merge-into-stripes-to-communicate-with.html – you’ve seen their synapse-warping videos at youtube.com/IWML… now, you can wear their art on your chest. Taken from the album art of their first double-disc extravaganza “To Communicate With Others Of Its Species”, The IWML’s favourite miskatonic imagineers have created a shirt that, through the extensive and intensive use of hypergeometry, not only opens up Pandimensional Gates and tinkers with the Weave of SurRealSpace, but looks pretty damn cool too. Attitude is EVERYTHING / Our attitudes determine whether we feel fulfilled or empty, wealthy or poor, happy or sad, accepted or rejected. It is the rudder of our ship and determines the course of our lives. It is more important than how much education we have; how clever we are; the level of our particular skills; our past accomplishments and future prospects, or how much money we have in the bank. Throughout our lives, it influences our friendships and all other relationships. Quite simply, it is the seminal factor in a life well lived versus one that is a constant struggle. Current research suggests that positive attitudes about aging are a greater factor than wealth, gender, or even our cholesterol levels in adding years to our lives. / We are what we believe. Our belief system is based on our past experience, which is constantly being relived in the present with an anticipation of the future being like the past. Our present perceptions are so colored by the past thing that we are unable to see the immediate happenings in our lives without distortions and limitations. With a sincere willingness we can re-examine who we think we are in order to achieve a new and a deeper sense of our real identity. / To experience this sense of total freedom, it is important for us to detach ourselves from past and future preoccupations and choose to live in an immediate sense of NOW. To be free also means not to be confined to a reality that seems limited by our physical senses. This, in turn, allows us to see and to participate in the love we already share with everyone. / Love can be looked upon as the total absence of fear. While all of us want love, many seem unable to experience it with any consistency. Our guilty fears from the past block our ability to give and receive love in the present. Fear and love can never be experienced at the same time. It is always our choice as to which of these emotions we choose. By choosing love more consistently than fear, we can change the nature and quality of not only our relationships, but our entire lives. / When we perceive another as “attacking” us, we usually feel defensive and find a way, directly or indirectly, to “attack” back. Attacking always stems from fear. No one attacks unless he or she first feels threatened and believes that through attack, one’s own strength is demonstrated at the expense of another’s vulnerability. As with all defenses that are designed to keep guilt and fear from our awareness, attack usually preserves the problem. / Most of us cling to the belief that “attacking” can really get us something we want. We seem to forget that “attacking” and “defending” do not bring inner peace. In order to experience peace instead of conflict, it is necessary to shift our perception. Instead of seeing others as attacking us, we can choose to see them as fearful. We are always expressing either love or fear. Fear is really a call for help and therefore, a request for love. It is apparent then, that to experience peace we must recognize that we do have a choice in determining what we perceive. / Many of our attempts to correct others, even when we believe we are offering constructive criticism, are really attempts to attack them by demonstrating their “wrongness” and our “rightness”. Thus, it may be helpful to examine our motivations. / Are we teaching love or are we demonstrating attack? / If others don’t change in accordance with our expectations, we are likely to regard them as guilty and thus reinforce our own belief in guilt. Peace of mind comes from not wanting to change others but instead, merely accepting them as they are. True acceptance is always without demands and expectations. / It seems black and white to me, especially after listening to a song this evening from the 1980’s called The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics which confirmed that we have the ability and power to choose our attitude in any moment, regardless of the circumstances. / I am hopeful about healing my own mind and heart, and having harmony and integrity in all I think, say and do…the ingredients for Peace of Mind.
The ghost whisperer communicates with earthbound spirits, ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business that prevents them from moving beyond the familiar plane of existence that we call life. Explore the spiritual side of life and death, fear not the consequences of exploring this “unconventional” world.

Your average model probably doesn’t want to be subjected to potentially lethal doses of radiation and most photographers don’t have training as radiographers but that doesn’t mean we can’t find inspiration in the concept of x-ray art. While artists like Nick Veasey and Steven N. Meyers are producing the ‘real thing’, plenty of others are being inspired to put their own spin on the theme and are coming up with some amazing ideas in the process. So first a look at some artists who use x-ray equipment to produce their art: Nick Veasey has created x-ray art featuring everything from light globes to a Boeing 777. His work has been used extensively on package design and in advertising campaigns. It’s worth checking out Nick’s website, where he talks about his techniques and the equipment he uses. There’s also a pretty cool article from Wired magazine here. / Steven N. Meyers is a trained radiographer who first started producing x-ray images of flowers and plants in 1975. To take the photos, Meyers uses a microwave-sized X-ray machine built for specimen radiography. / / / / And those who have been inspired … Evan Roth has used x-ray inspired art to protest against what he sees as excessive airport security by creating steel stencils that appear as messages in hand luggage. He’s also created a tutorial showing how to make them so others can also annoy airport staff and possibly prompt a cavity search for their troubles. / Eric Feng, a.k.a. feric draws these gorgeous, delicate vector images of humans, birds, insects and other animals. His creations have a transparent, almost x-ray quality to them as a result of the different line weights and transparencies he uses in his work. / / / / / Chinese artist Xia Xiaowan uses layers of glass to make 3D paintings. He draws his inspiration from x-rays, painting on multiple layers of glass to give images a three dimensional appearance. / / / / / Here are some bubblers who’ve come up with clever ways to incorporate x-rays into their own art: / Travel Bag by Darren Burdell / x-ray by brady robinson / On the Inside by Jessica Walker / X Ray Terrestrial No. 6 by Jane Linders Pretty inspiring stuff! Feel free to share your x-ray inspired works below, or link to your own examples of amazing x-ray inspired art …
Aboriginal songwriter, musician & singer, Archie Roach, was a recent guest artist, accompanied by his wife (singer/songwriter) Ruby Hunter, at a recent community Family Fun Day, organised/hosted by yours truly, colleagues and volunteers. This is one of many photos I took of our performers, events and people throughout the day. The original photo was of Archie on stage with a somewhat boring marquee as backdrop, so I decided to put the emphasis on Archie, and ‘spruce’ it up a bit, blending it with one of my cloud/sky photographs, and re-working the colour and lighting. I have the honour and the pleasure of knowing Archie, and have had several enjoyable opportunities to share time, conversation and a few laughs with him over the years. His life and testimony is more than just interesting, and much of him as a person — his depth and sincerity, his views and experiences — are expressed through his music/lyrics. I am proud to know him as a gentle-man and a friend. As performers, Archie and Ruby have travelled the world stage, and continue to be in high demand, attending the smallest to the largest of festivals and functions, here and overseas, although Archie is inclined to not want to travel “too far” these days, and prefers spending as much time as possible with his children and ‘large’ family, residing in a small & quiet rural/coastal town in Victoria (Australia). In my view, Archie is a unique Australian, and a walking testimony to the integrity and resilience of the Aboriginal spirit, and the genuine spirit of Australia — as ‘true blue’ as you’re ever going to find. ~ Archie singing From Paradise here
