  • After the James Blunt concert at Sydney Entertainment Quarter at mid-night, my friends decided to go and see the balloons in Canberra in the early morning. I drove to canberra in 4 hours and wow, so peaceful and energetic and the same time. Commonwealth Place, Canberra, Australia / 2006-04-15 4:52 AM – Yes the time is the key! • Photographed in the Great Aviary at Melbourne Zoo, Australia. The character: Karak – a Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo – was the official mascot of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, conducted in Melbourne. / . /

  • My Giant Anthem LE enjoying the sunset up at the Trig Point near the top of the Commonwealth Games Mountain Bike Course at Lysterfield Lake Park in Victoria, Australia. • / I snuck into this building where people were reading their newspapers and meeting other corporate people. It was an amazing building, library quiet too. Thanks Andymac, it’s the Commonwealth Bank Building in Collins Street.

  • Cygnet II is a unique black & white portrait featuring a Cygnet with its family in Commonwealth Park, Canberra. Behind the scenes / Spring is a time to celebrate new life and new beginnings as we emerge from the cold gloom of Winter. In Canberra, the Floriade festival is an annual celebration of Spring, attracting over 300,000 visitors every year. Aside from enjoying the colourful floral displays, visitors are greeted every year by Commonwealth Park’s resident Swans who, like proud parents, do laps of the park’s lake showing off their Cygnets. I like the unique composition of this portrait, with the Swan and cygnet out of focus in the foreground adding depth to the image. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm Artwork / This is a striking and unique portrait that is sure to make a fantastic addition to your home. Ideal as a framed fine quality print or canvas, let this heart-warming celebration of new life become a focal point in your home. © 2008 A Spence. All Rights Reserved

  • Seagull is a unique image of a seagull captured in mid flight. Behind the scenes / It’s not apparent in the image, but this seagull was photographed in broad daylight in the crowded Commonwealth Park. Use of levels and filters has created this very unique image, dimming the background except for a small ribbon of colour while simultaneously adding detail and illumination to the seagull. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm Artwork / Unique, striking and sophisticated, Seagull would make a fantastic artwork, adding a focal point to your living room or bringing some of nature’s drama into the office. © 2008 A Spence. • The annual floral festival held in Canberra each Spring, absorbs locals and the floods of visitors alike. / This is but a tiny piece of the whole glorious display, or multiple displays, which fill Commonwealth Park on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

  • The 5.5 was one of the best guns ever produced by the British Army. It began to reach troops in 1941 and by the end of 1942 was serving on both fronts of the desert war; by the end of the Second World War it had served in every major battle area with both Commonwealth and British forces. Required a crew of nine and a large tractor for movement, ammunition and crew. / Max range (with 82lb. HE shell) was 18,200 yards.

  • Images from Antarctica. Commonwealth Bay region, south of Australia.

  • View from below Commonwealth Avenue Bridge looking south with Parliament House in the distance

  • Cygnets is a black & white portrait featuring two of the resident swans that call Commonwealth Park in Canberra home. Behind the scenes / Cygnets like most young animals tend not to venture too far from their parents and siblings. This can make photographing them a bit challenging as there’s always a beak or wing that doesn’t belong. It can be used creatively though as with this image to depth to the image and fill an area o the frame that would otherwise be blurred water. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm Artwork / Take it home, to the office or share it as a gift, this is a unique and stylish image ideal for framing. © 2008 A Spence. • Now sadly dismantled, B of the Bang was Britain’s tallest sculpture and was commissioned to mark the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Located next to the City of Manchester Stadium, in Beswick, Manchester, the statue was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and unveiled by sprinter Linford Christie in 2005. It takes its name from a quotation of Christie in which he said that he started his races not merely at the ‘bang’ of the starting pistol, but at ‘The B of the Bang’
