  • Hand in Hand was nominated by zandria to Pay It Forward. Zandria said” “This simple image of an elderly couple holding hands says sooo much. You can see how much they love each other. How they are best friends. How they are truly content in life. How they have worked hard. How they value family. / It evokes an endless story of life and love. One that I hope to achieve with my best friend, my husband.” Thanks a million zandria.

  • Ballymun housing estate on Dublins Northside in 1995. A community that was plagued with drugs and drug dealers and of course poverty and apathy. There was more than a few suicides by leaping from the balconies and stairwells of the flats. A governments dream for low cost housing in the 1960´s when they cleared the inner cities. Ireland was not ready for this type of housing as it was not a bungalow on an acre of land front and back and it was therefore systematically neglected. In many ways “The Flats” were ahead of their times and those living there suffered because of it. That said Ballymun had & has a great sense of community and pride sadly lacking in many “better-off” housing estates. Now scheduled for demoliton, three of these towers, all named after leaders of Irelands 1916 armed rising against British rule, still stand. Here there be neighbours.

  • In all honesty I am not really sure wether flies commit suicide or not… I mean, we’ve all seen that errant fly slam into a wall, often multiple times in a row, and this could be an attempt at ending its life. After all, with an eye for every direction on the compass, it is highly doubtful a fly ever simply just doesn’t see a wall right ahead of it… When I was 14 and at Summer Camp (which is better known as Hell for many of us homosexuals… real camp at least… the idea is sexy, the reality is far from it…) every morning at breakfast I had a pet fly that came and sat on the lip of my milk-box. Though my bunk-leader told me that not only was it unsanitary, but likely a different fly each day, I knew it was the same one and that he was very clean. I never gave him a name, but I still think fondly of him from time to time whenever someone tells me I’m doing something unsanitary. Incidental note: People who religiously guard themselves from any sort of dirt or bacteria are chronically ill… this is because when something does get through, their body has never seen it before and has no defense to stop it. I never get sick, and this is because I am notoriously nonchalant as far as incidental cleanliness goes (i.e. I shower daily, but I’ll eat meat that has been sitting out for a few days and only wash my hands under certain circumstances after using the bathroom. All you guys know good and well that if you flip it out, shake, and flip it back in, the hands never touch the… you know… and I always use the sole of my shoe to flush in public bathrooms… ok, that’s plenty of written content for this work… on to the next.)

  • Caring for rabbits, As with any pet, keeping a rabbit requires a commitment to care for it during its life which could be 5-10 years or longer. The commitment required includes not only routine feeding, care and time spent with the rabbit but also the provision of veterinary treatment if the rabbit becomes ill which can be costly. Although proper care will go a long way to ensuring that any rabbit remains happy and healthy there may still be times when prompt veterinary treatment is needed and once a rabbit is ill it can deteriorate quickly. However, some insurance companies do offer veterinary insurance cover for pet rabbits. Rabbits should also be vaccinated against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) and Myxomatosis annually. A common cause of death in female rabbits (does) is uterine cancer which can often spread to other organs before it is diagnosed. This can be prevented by spaying if the rabbit is not intended for breeding and is best done when the rabbit is between 6 months and 2 years of age. Rabbits can be kept outside or indoors as they make good house pets, being easily litter trained. The decision as to where the rabbit is to be kept will affect the type of Cage or Hutch required for the rabbit.

  • Into his eyes she says ‘I Do’ / Her thoughts of future wedded bliss / He says to her eyes ‘I Do Too’ / Then seals their promise with a kiss / / This magic kiss that freezes time / And isolates both bride and groom / From cheers the crowd does loudly chime / And other ruckus in the room / / This moment starts their lives anew / The world around does not exist / As lifelong vows exchanged by two / A promise sealed with a kiss / / This digital painting was done by special request of our daughter from a photo taken at her wedding. She wanted me to isolate that ‘kiss of promise’ to her new husband from the surrounding crowd and scenery. The painting is meant to portray that feeling, where nothing else exists during that moment in time except for her and her new husband. / / To give a better appreciation for the artwork, I have included a thumbnail of the original photograph that inspired the artwork. No… there is nothing wrong with your eyes… the preacher does not have a face. I don’t have a model release from the preacher for this photo, so I had to photoshop his face off to be able to show you the original photo. :) / / / / Hope you like it, Stephie and Jake :) / /
