DJINNI: COMMANDING THE NAFS OF THE DESERT / OIL / $1200.00 US / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE In the ancient folklore of the deserts of Arabia lurked the Djinni’s or as they are currently called in movies and in books, Genie’s. The Djinni’s or Genie’s were a race of supernatural creatures. They were not revered by the ancients but quite the opposite, the Djinnis were feared. Also, in the traditional folklore of the desert sands, the Nafs are our false ego’s. It seems to this artist that the Djinni’s are still prowling the desert wastelands disturbing the peace and solitude of the desert. / The oil found beneath the shifting sands has beguiled the Nafs of the greedy and powerful. It’s black magic has enticed nations and men to fight for the superfluous wealth they seek. Their Nafs are destroying their very selfs and the nations they govern. In seeking to sate their unquenchable thirst for power and money these men have inadvertently enticed and awakened the primeval energy of the Djinnis. / The very names of some of the Djinnis have descended down through the ages and have become part of our present day lore. Names such as Shaitan, Succubbi and Ghul are but just a few of the names that have made that journey on the backs of broken dreams of greed and lust. We must wrestle our Nafs into submission and allow our better angels to prevail. It is the will of a merciful and compassionate God that we must share the abundance that has been so freely given to us. Hey all, / Below are a list of easy keyboard commands for Photoshop. I’m using a regular PC (Windows) but if you use a mac, all of the controls will be different…and because I don’t have a Mac within reach, I can’t get the commands for that. Sorry Mac users! Control + N = Opening a New Canvas / Control + O = Opening a new project from a different file (such as a photo) / Control + Z = Undo very last action; nothing past that. / Control + Alt + Z = Undo past actions; infinite. / Control + Shift + Z = Redo an action (that is, if you have already undone an action.) / Control + Shift + F = Fade… (This is a VERY useful tool that I just discovered about 2 minutes ago…For example, you draw something a little too light…do this command then you can make the brush stroke’s opacity darker! Again, VERY useful!) / Control + X = Cut / Control + C = Copy / Control + V = Paste / Control + Shift + V = Paste Into (Don’t know exactly what this does for sure yet but, apparently it’s useful?) / Control + I = Invert (makes a negative [or positive] of the image selected) / Control + A = Selects the whole canvas / Control + Shift + D = Reselects the part that was once selected, then deselected. / Control + D = Deselects the canvas / Control + – = Zoom Out / Control + + = Zoom In And there’s plenty more but these are the basic necessary keyboard commands for Photoshop. -Brittany

Imogene had been crying in the barn for sometime before she really noticed the bathtub. Well, not crying exactly, because Imogene Fortinbras never cried – her eyes became moist and her nose ran on occasion – but crying was for big babies so she wouldn’t be caught dead doing that. Not even when her father refused to let her enter the Annual Go Kart Regatta and why not? Because she was a girl, that’s why not! To make matters worse, he and her brother Sebastian were in the carriage house right now and what were they doing? Making a Go Kart for Sebastian to race! And he was only six! Oh it was SO unfair!! Downright infuriating, that’s what it was. It probably wasn’t the first time intense passion fueled inspiration, but the result was certainly unique in this instance. As if stunned into a trance by a lightning bolt, Imogene pulled out the toolset that she had negotiated hard for last Christmas. After disassembling a wagon, a small motorboat, an ancient combine, a laundry sink, an old table fan and sneaking upstairs to make short work of a hideous long flowing gown thing she was supposed to wear for some silly anniversary party, she was ready to begin. For days she worked on her project in secret whenever she could manage, and soon her creation was almost ready for its maiden voyage. The attic discovery of what was left of one of her great grandfather’s taxidermy projects provided the finishing touch. On the day of the Regatta, Imogene cheerfully bidded her father and brother farewell and waved until they were out of sight. Then she shot into the barn, donned her admiral hat and goggles and fired up her amazing bathtub airship. / The Regatta was just underway when a most inexplicable shadow was cast over the racers in the bright September sun, causing them all to gape upwards like so many turkeys in a rainstorm. The result was most unfortunate: a Go Kart pile up the likes of which was never seen before or since. Imogene of course took this opportunity to let her airship touch down and gently glide over the finish line. Although she was not officially entered, no one could deny that Imogene was the clear winner, and that is how Imogene Fortinbras became the first girl to ever enter and win the Go Kart Regatta. Being a good sport, she provided her brother with his own hat and took him and her baby brother Twisby for a victory lap, much to the horror of their mother. / Hanging in a child’s room or your own office or studio, this piece is a testament to what is possible if you put your mind to it, and to all women who simply refuse to take “No” for an answer. With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /
