  • Mixed media, Ink, oil paint and aerosol on canvas (100×100cm) 2009. When I’m these places I try and build a mental snapshot of the atmosphere and the depth of colour, I do this because I find painting on location difficult to concentrate on and a massive commitment of time out in the elements. Photography is a blessing but does suprisingly little for the imagination compared to actual scene. Many of my paintings represent otherwise ordinary places and scenes, i don’t sit out at sunset waiting for an amazing sky or go to outlandish destinations. I represent what I find day to day. Its the way that I see them and represent them that makes it stand out. Though i support my work with photographs, I do not wish to doggedly copy them. Photographs are merely a touch point to that moment and place, enough to spark the minds eye. Cameras do not share the delicate adjustments that the eye can make in contrast, I suppose HDR photos come close to this. The human eye is amazing, as an artist I trust my eyes far more than a camera! This painting follows a period of muted work where concious restriction of pallette aimed to fit in with the kind of work people expect to see. This is the very antithesis. I’m trying to recapture the deep saturation and rich colours I remember from that evening, the flourecent greens and yellows of the rocks and the delicate pink to blue sky hidden by the infinite filigree of tree branches. Rapidly worked in ink then tinted using transparent colour laquer in a spraycans, final touches applied in oil paint.

hello to everyone that reads this….ive not been around for a long time…im sorry for that…not really been creating so hence why i havent been uploading…but ive done three new designs….one of them is pretty messed up and i will say again as i have said on the item description…..the monkey in the design was a healthy normal chimp….then i got my hands on his picture and all kinds of evil came out…..the reason im saying this is cos i showed the desing to a friend and they said it looked like one of those animal liberation posters where they get you to sign a petition….so if anyone finds the design distressing then i apologise….but it was a happy fluffy chimp before i started :D oh thanks to the people that have bought my stuff i really appreciate it ..i still find it hard to believe some people around the world (whereever they are from) are wearing my shirts….i feel so privledged that they liked it enought to wanna wear it in public…so thank you to everyone with all my heart oh and speaking of sales…i got my first commissions payment..woo…now what to spend it on catch you all laters….thanks again

  • Original artwork for John Fairhursts “Joys of Spring” album (50×50) mixed media on watercolour paper 2007 CD availble from humble soul records Manchester. Johns Music is really amazing, we’ve been freinds for a number of years and when he was recording this Album he brought his equipment to my Art studio to get away from it all for a while. While he was recording I was comming up with album designs, not suprisingly it was the start of spring and after a particularly harsh winter we were both enjoying seeing the earth come back to life, as the days passed the influence on our work was visible. In this image I have used a Japanese influence in the design and composition. The stylised hawthorne tree and looking beyond to billinge hill (John is originally from billinge you see) it all ties together quite nicely. the Sky is stenciled aerosol, the foreground a mix of ink and acrylic paint. The final image was scanned by graphic designer Neil Warburton (www.iamunknown.com) and put together with his design to make the album sleeve. I fully reccomend hunting down John’s Album, its a hell of a thing, foot stomping blues and slide guitar blended with indian classical music influences, a true journey in sound.
