  • State flower of Coloado. The Orton effect was used to give this a soft feel. Image shot near Vail Colorado

  • 10×14 watercolor of a columbine done on a rough finish paper. Original is available. Now… this one has been an education! Making mauve was just fascinating because I also added quite a bit of blue. I did find a great frisket that doesn’t smell as bad as the other one I was using. It was really hard but what a blast I had.. and, boy, did I ever learn a lot!! Complete 2007

  • This is my first ever use of a “stock photo.” The butterfly is mine, but the columbine flower came from FreeStockPhotos.com / The original photo of the flower was not “fractalized.” (nor was the butterfly) / This image was created using Photoshop elements. There are several layers here, as well as selective use of the fractalius filter. / Thank you for taking the time to view my work. / Have a most excellent day! / / / Copyright 2008 Julie – Julie Alexander. • I love the graceful way the blossoms of Columbine trail their lovely tails behind them each spring. This is a collage of several from my garden which I had to keep alive by painting them. 12”x 10” watercolor on Arches 140 cold press.

  • Extended exposure high resolution image with back lighting. Epson 4990

  • Columbine Lake was painted from a photo I took of this high mountain lake in Colorado while on a backpacking trip. The setting was spectacular, so I couldn’t resist. It took me two months to finish the piece as I reworked the paint to create a good harmony of color. Original ptg: 60” x 36” / acrylic on canvas artist’s collection

  • It’s spring and flowers are everywhere. Can’t resist trying a few new shots.

  • / Perennial, Aquilegia hybrida Columbine is an easy to grow perennial. Columbine is native to Asia, Europe and North America. If you are a hummingbird lover, Columbine is for you. It is a favorite of hummingbirds and bees because the flowers contain lots of nectar. Columbines produce large, showy blooms of single and bicolor patterns on airy plants with blue-green foliage from late spring to early summer. Colors include shades of yellow, white, pink, blue, purple and combinations. Did you Know? Columbine is the state flower of Colorado. They are also called the “Rocky Mountain Columbine”. / credits to Gardening Network

  • Playing with a picture I took. This is the original edit. Technically, I took 2 pictures, each with a single flower in it, then combined them, then started playing. :) And here are 2 other variations / This piece was featured in The Women Photographer and the Fabulous Flowers groups. Thank you!
