  I have a cousin called Steve Walters, who lives in British Columbia, Canada. For ages now I have been nagging Steve to join Redbubble to display his wood carvings. He’s a modest person and doesn’t know if his work would be suitable for Redbubble, so I’ve decided to give him a little push by showing a selection of his carvings to see what sort of reception they do get. The first one shows Steve himself, which will give you an idea of the scale of his work. Tell him to join Redbubble! There now .. bet you agree with me they are fantastic.

  Well, this is where we are headed for vacation this summer (August) – Vancouver Island British Columbia CA on MacKenzie Beach, and Mt.Rainier, Mt. St. Helen’s, and the Olympic Peninsula (Hoh Rainforest and LaPush Beach) in Washington State. Not where I was planning to be (originally wanted to go to Scotland and Ireland but the dollar is so poor and the flights are very expensive and almost none existent) but this is how it worked out. You can be sure I will make the best of every photo opportunity. I have been to this area many, many, many times and just love it. My family has never been here before but I know they will just love it. ....Hiking, kayaking, more hiking….... oh did I mention photography for me…..?

  I just found out that I am going to get to visit Canada this spring! Wooo! Will be traveling to Victoria, British Columbia and staying for three nights. I’ve heard wonderful things about the Butchart Gardens there, so I can’t wait to visit that. Plus, I really hope to get out on a whale watching tour..I have heard great things about a company called Eagle Wing Tours Wooo! Can’t wait! Is it May yet??

  Our local zoo/botanical gardens are hosting a photo competition, so I took the challenge. I visited the gardens yesterday and had a great time. I totally lost myself for about 3 hours and took over 200 pictures. The categories in the contest are, floral closeup, critters, black & white, and garden overview. The overview thing is difficult. I just don’t think they wanted me to climb trees to get a good overall shot and it’s hard to do standing on the ground amidst everything. The only critters I saw were a couple small lizards, a bunch of spiders and a few bees. The birds must not like the crowds. This assignment made it clear to me that I would like to have a second camera body. It seemed I was changing lenses frequently for varying conditions and subjects. Anyhow, I’ll just put a few of the better shots up here. I don’t need to flood RB with hundreds of flower closeup shots. I hope you enjoy these.
