My appologies…it’s actually a Yellow-belly Racer. / The first I’ve been able to handle….normally a very quick snake to flee…and nippy when cornered…this fellow was trying to sun on a road. Luckily, my son and I came across him before another car did. I photographed him a few times before I picked him up slowly…I’m not big on being nipped…and he was actually extremely gentle. / I was able to get a lot of images of him….even with cars slowing down to site-see as they passed us. / Non-venemous…they eat insects, frogs, other snakes, rodents and birds. / This image is after I set him on the side of the road near the wooded edge…he just curled up in a ball and tried to tuck his nose down into his coils. The yellow shows why he has such an obvious name…....as does his speed when zipping away.
The beautiful colors of the Yellow-belly Racer. This sub-species lives here in the mid-west and has such incredible colors from this vibrant yellow to a green/blue to even an almost purple color near the top-side of the tail tip. / My son and I found this male on a NE Kansas road down from my father’s home. Completely harmless, they will sometimes get nippy and CRAZY squiggly if handled. We were blessed to find a very placid one who preferred to just ball up.

(Dispholidus typus) / A highly potent venomous snake. Translated [from Afrikaans] it’s name means Tree Snake. Native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is also a very timid snake and therefore there are not vary many incidents of bites to humans. But should it bite a human the bite is potentially lethal
