It was an early morning start. I was meeting a friend for a sunrise shoot. The location was all planned out, so was the time – unfortunately we still missed each other. It was my fault. I went to the South end of the beach, he was at the Northern end. / / Sometimes a mistake can actually turn into luck, and this was the case here. A wonderfully still morning, beautiful light and the moon to boot….. / / I did eventually meet up with my friend after he finally answered his mobile, but wow was I glad I overshot the Northern Entrance…. Sydney is not only blessed by a beautiful coastline providing us with countless beaches, but also some of these beaches have a “rock pool” at the headland. These rock pools provide a great place for the locals to take a dip in the ocean without the waves. The light was changing every minute. I climbed over some huge rocks to get into a great position to take some surfing shots, when suddenly this huge cloud covered up the sun. Suddenly the beautiful light illuminating the waves the surfers were riding was gone. I looked to my left and noticed the light here. Quickly, I grabbed my stuff and setup this shot…..only got one frame, because soon after this the light here was also gone. I shot this just a few moments before dawn off the Bundeena Cliffs at Royal NP just south of Sydney and a 15 minute walk from where I live. / This section of coast in Royal is just magnificent and I keep getting drawn back to it night and day – can’t imagine how many hours I’ve spent up here just sitting and gazing out to sea or taking pics. There are actually some hermit dwellings built into the side of the cliffs during the 1930’s Depression which are now derelict. I can fully understand why people built them. Wouldn’t mind setting up residence myself (but I love my running hot and cold water too much lol). Tv: 1/6 sec / Av: f/ll / ISO: 100 / FL: 10mm / Canon 30D

Today it is Sydney’s historic old town quarter, nestled between the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Parts of the modern city are in the background.

This started out as an attempt at an illustrative rendition of the Wheel etc … however I got sidetracked into selective colours and a sepia light. At least it is different! This is a great walk to go and do! It’s not to hard and you see beautiful things the whole way! How to get there… Commencing from the Leura Cascades Picnic Area make your way to the information board from which you will observe a concrete pathway descending to the left. Follow the pathway as it travels beside the bubbling Leura Cascades creek. You will approach a small footbridge, at this there will be an intersection, you will note a weathered signpost indicating the direction of Leura Cascades, from this point head downhill to the Cascades. As you descend the fern covered stairs (handrails for support) to the Cascades you will hear the sounds of rushing water as the creek picks up speed. At the bottom, the Cascades are best viewed from beneath a rock cave looking back up the Cascades. A brief sidetrack can be made from the Cascades by following the path for a short distance to a lookout directly above the Bridal Veil Falls. Return to the picnic area via the same pathway.

On this particular Sunday we (my family) decided to play tourist in our home town. Late afternoon we decided to explore a few parks in and around North Sydney. In the end we ended up at Sydneys famous Luna Park. This shot was taken at Newport Wharf which is located on the shores of Pittwater north of Sydney. Easily accessable by car or public transport. Its the kind of place where you can wind down at the end of the day with a cold beer or a glass of Australian Chardonnay and watch the sun set in the west.. This is my neighbourhood about 5 minutes from my home, “Just a Little Touch of Paradise.” we get some great sunsets ! / So if youre visiting Sydney areas like this are within 40 klms of the city Nikon D70 3 bracketted images , hand held, NO FILTERS NO COLOUR MANIPULATION just pure HDR / /

I’d like to be able to say that when I was composing this shot I saw the plane taking off out of frame and worked out its trajectory would take it just over th e sun as it was rising, but I can’t :-(. Truth is I was so focussed on the rising sun I didn’t even notice the plane til I downloaded the shot and started working on it. So this is actually a tiny crop of the original landscape orientation I shot it in. One of those serendipitous moments you don’t even notice at the time. The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase* of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored and still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue.
