Skipping Girl is a neon sign in Melbourne that is a bit of an icon. The company may have moved on but the sign was restored but it doesn’t actually work anymore. I thought I would take a picture of it with my new little P & S Nikon and then add the neon back. This is part of a series of different takes on Skipping Girl which is a bit pop artish and just fun to make.

This was taken on Fraser Island off the Queensland coast after a storm and king high tides… the sand dunes were smashed by the waves and eroded away. Inspired directly from all the horror movies I’ve ever watched. You’re on the run from whatever it is chasing you this time. You fine a phone, run to it in hope but lo and behold, it’s disconnected. You turn to keep running, but the thing you have been running from is there, and you run right into it.. That was your last life line. Goodbye. This was taken in the underpass between Degraves Street and Flinders Street Station, Melbourne. The entire underpass is trapped in an art deco time warp. Light pink tiles on rounded walls, window box displays, metal sign work, and this in particular. Curving into a small alcove where a telephone must have once stood. Original shot, layered twice. On the first day of my stay in Melbourne while on route to the Ballarat International Foto Biennale I met up with some friends and we went to the old Convent in … I think… Abbotsford. Apart from it being a very beautiful place to just wander about in… there is a fabulous new artspace and gallery there which I am interested in for a possible exhibition next year. Anyway the jusxtaposition of the old and the new everywhere in this amazing place was a real photographers delight…. this is one of the random snaps I took while wandering about enjoying the beautiful spring weather and the company of my new friends….. / . / . /
