Coloured pencils on paper. This painting is currently listed in my eBay store
i bought these beautiful pencils in Plaza Dorrego, Buenos Aires.
For me one of the most relaxing things ever is to be sitting in a park that has a bandstand. Pity they are not often used these days though. See the title for details of mediums involved.
I did this ten years ago. Sometimes it is good to get back to one’s roots a little and I am kicking myself that I gave up on colour pencil work ten years ago. I have returned to it recently and, unlike those days, people actually seem to like some of it. Here is a link to a collaboration John Edwards and I did, where he used this as a background to great effect.
The male counterpart to my other painting “Fallen Angel”. Here, again, the person and his shadow are reversed. Thus transforming him into a shadow of his former self. Hence the title. . . Somewhere Over the Rainbow was drawn on the 16/10/08 and 18/10/08 in pencil, pastel and mixed media. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” Somewhere over the rainbow / Way up high, / There’s a land that I heard of / Once in a lullaby. / Somewhere over the rainbow / Skies are blue, / And the dreams that you dare to dream / Really do come true. Someday I’ll wish upon a star / And wake up where the clouds are far / Behind me. / Where troubles melt like lemon drops / Away above the chimney tops / That’s where you’ll find me. Somewhere over the rainbow / Bluebirds fly. / Birds fly over the rainbow. / Why then, oh why can’t I? If happy little bluebirds fly / Beyond the rainbow / Why, oh why can’t I? music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg /

Yep, your typical Bully type dog, stocky and full of comical attitude. And of course, loyal as! :) / A4 commissioned portrait, Derwent colour pencil, white gouache and black ink on mat board. 2008 Has been featured in ‘Pencil Drawing’, ‘Painted Dogs’ and ‘Cats and Dogs’ groups.
Part Bamburgh Castle and part my imagination :) Although this hasn’t had many viewings I do rather like it …. so there! :)
Inspired by Bonnie Tyler’s song Lost In France. For those who are interested, the girl is painted with watered-down acrylic paint, the Eiffel Tower view is painted with gouache and the rest is done with coloured pencils. This is a variation on my LOST IN FRANCE painting … The original was done on A4 paper and I decided to enlarge it to A3, but as I started doing that I decided it would be boring just to do a straight copy, so I did another version instead. I rather like both versions as they each have something different to offer. FEATURED IN ALL THE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW GROUP – 12th September 2009
A Coloured Pencil Drawing of German Shepherd Pup, nosing over a gate, size 10×8 inches.
Coloured pencil on paper 2009
Phew … at last … I’ve completed my personal challenge .. to do three pictures based on Barcelona. For those interested in technique, I did the sky and clouds with acrylic and then finished the picture off using coloured pencils. I am slowly weaning myself onto acrylics, but I don’t think I will ever lose my love of coloured pencils :)

This ACEO / miniature art was completed in coloured pencil and ink on drafting film. The reference photo for this artwork was taken by Simon.Monk (flickr creative commons) and was used with his kind permission. I have always had a fascination for the mystique and beauty of the Venetian Carnivale Masks and, in particular, the Jester masks and would like to do a series of artworks on this fascinating theme. This particular artwork will be the subject of a tutorial on coloured pencil and ink drawing on drafting film on my website at http://www.miniatureartbykhull.com/tutorial_ii_21.html.
This was just me relaxing by playing with coloured pencils. I don’t think I have ever done a picture using rainbow colours in spectrum order before. Okay … I cheated and used purple instead of indigo and violet. This is loosely based on another of my drawings: You may see torn layers of paper with other designs behind … and an eye watching you … or you may not … so I just called this Rainbow Design.
ACEO / miniature art (2.5×3.5 inches) of a little hamster offering up a red rose with love. I think I really outdid myself on this one..not to blown my own trumpet but this one I am so proud of! I was trying to break away from my usual forte of people, pets and landscapes. Nature called me!! Colour pencil on cartridge paper. L K Southward
Nira Dabush of Redbubble commented on my IF ONLY THESE BRICKS COULD TALK II: “You know, personally I would try to paint a solution .. I mean these two hands reach out for each other and touch, for example.” In this third version of the painting, the two figures have reached out to hold hands in what I hope many will see as a happy ending. Here are the other two versions: / / ..... and here’s the posh version of my new one:
This calendar is a collection of some of my Venetian MASK SERIES, these works range frome original watercolour pencil drawings to original acrylic and gouache paintings. The ideal was to bring out the beauty, the marvellous colours and the mystery of the Venetian masks. I think it would be a nice companion for you during the year 2010! As always thanks so much for viewing and commenting ! I’m a Featured Artist for the month December 2009 in the Behind the Mask Group /
This fellow landed from my imagination and seems to have lost his pet rabbit. He didn’t leave it in his space-ship, so goodness knows where it is. If you find it, you have to cry, “He’s behind you!” in true pantomime spirit :) I used coloured pencils and fineliner pens to bring him to life. He’s not based on anyone or anything; purely imaginative. FEATURED BY JOURNAL JUNKIES GROUP – 5th November 2009
