  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Colours of Lichen This old fence is typical of many fences located at Hill End, New South Wales. In the early 1870’s rich gold discoveries rapidly turned Hill End from a small rural and mining community into one of the largest inland towns in New South Wales. The Photos – One of the businessmen attracted by Hill End’s boom was a photographer by the name of Beaufoy Merlin. He photographed the whole town, scene by scene and building by building. The lucky discovery of this – one of the world’s greatest collections of historic photos – in the 1950’s means that we can see for ourselves, the drama that was once Hill End.

  • “Home on the Range” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A house on top of a bare hill looking out into the twilight. “How often at night / When the heavens were bright / By the light of the twinkling stars, / Have I stood here amazed / And asked as I gazed / If their glory exceeds that of ours. / The air is so clear, / The breeze so pure, / The zephyr so balmy and light; / I would not exchange / My home here on range / Forever in azure so bright.”

  • This scene can be found approx 90Km from Broken Hill on the Tibooburra Rd (Silver City Hwy). Turn left on to a track (if you can find it) that runs along a fence. Follow the track to the gorge. Then walk west for about 5km. Be careful not to fall down any Tin mine shafts. The property name is Sturt Meadows and looks like this after rain. This is where the eagle lives. • When I think about it the ancient looking tree and silhouettes of the rock could represent the ancient land and culture, looking out toward the short history of what modern Australia is today. A night out looking to capture some stars and a full moon lighting my subject, gave way to showery rain. The colours are from the city of Melbourne Australia lighting the approaching rain clouds. All I did to produce this piece is saturate the colours and reduce some noise.
