  • Maybe you’d guessed from the title, but David Bowie’s ‘Ashes to Ashes’ was a major [tom] influence on this shot. The video for the song was the most expensive in the world at that time – $250,000 – and featured some of the most extreme image manipulation ever seen. Rather than the solarized pink of the ‘dozer procession’ scene, I opted for a colour infrared palette to recreate the look and feel I wanted. “My mother said, / to get things done, / you’d better not mess with Major Tom”

  • The main fuse board for the corrugated iron warehouse on Dead Bod Jetty looks to have been wrecked well before the current fashion for copper wire theft…

  • Rugged beach, Corsica, France When I saw this scene I was so glad that I had my Nikon D80 and a Sigma 10-20mm lense with me. It is a composition of three HDR pictures to get sharp outlines even in the edges. I used Dynamic Photo HDR and Photoshop to create this picture. If somebody wants the picture in full resolution then give me your email and I’ll send it to you!

  • I saw a fantastic sunset from my backyard last Thursday night. Decided I’d quickly pop down to Brighton as it isn’t far from my house. I’m glad I went as it was one of the best sunsets I’d seen for a while! This image is a combination of 3 that were digitally blended using Photoshop CS4 with layers/layer masks. I used a Wacom tablet for the blending work as it offers much finer control than a mouse.

  • Camden Town, London with it’s shops/flats in all their colourful glory

  • A further version of the boardwalk by Newbiggin Beach in Northumberland. This time cooling it off a little with less colour temperature. Taken with Canon EOS40D and 17-85 IS USM

  • This shot was taken at night and shows the famous three sisters buildings on the left and the car park on the right. The reflections of all the lights are dramatic.

  • Created HDR version of a single JPG image, processed using CS4 plugin from Topaz Labs with Spicify pre-set attributes.

  • St Peters Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands, uk

  • I used HDR techniques to gain this eerie but somehow beautiful shot of the local cemetery. For those interested, I bracketed 3 shots at -2, 0, +2 and then merged in Photomatix. I then applied the final colour changes in Lightroom. Camera – Nikon D90, lens 18-105 Nikon, ISO640 at 1/40 sec (tripod!) shot at F18. Hope you enjoy.

  • I cannot deny the beauty of a single tree in a landscape. So simple, so untouched and so perfect in its imperfect way. Picture taken at Beachmere, Queensland

  • “A fourteenth century castle with a park, a lake and a nineteenth century garden. The garden was designed by Sir Geoffrey de Wyattville in 1828. It has a parterre with clipped box and yew, rose beds, herbaceous borders. There is also a rock garden and a woodland garden.” Shot taken in the Chillingham Castle Italian gardens, Northumberland, with a Panasonic Lumix G1, 14-45mm lens. Three separate exposures merged into HDR via CS3. Much, much better when viewed in large format to really see the intricate details of these wonderful steps. Also from the Chillingham series: The Chillingham Steps / Chillingham Castle / A Tortured Soul and his Bloody Crown of Thorns / Italian Gardens / Central Gardens /

  • HDR 3 images, tonemapped, orton effect created in PS, added some more lighting effects, adjusted colours, vibrance, saturation, and then to top it all off I added a wee bit of zoom blur Model – my lovely wife Canon 400D / Canon Lens 18-55mm
