Here is a small selection of a huge series I’ve been putting together since 2004… As a young boy, I was often told by my mother to look where I was walking so that I wouldn’t trip or fall over… ... so I took my mother’s advice and when I go places I look where I’m walking, I look down at the ground. We often look at sunrises, sunsets, canyons, beaches, mountains, landscapes etc, but each time fail to notice what is below us! It is a different way of viewing the world! :)

Photography never really stirred in me until I got back from spending 12 months making my way through 26 different countries. At the time you’re pleased you’ve taken a good photo but it’s not until you get home, re-assimilate into the Australian way of life, that you see the real value in what you’ve captured. Suddenly everything was saturated in colour, I’d walk around looking up and down and around things I’d never noticed before. I’d observe people and persistently be longing for my camera when I wouldn’t have it with me. / By day I work in I.T and drive a sports car and that doesn’t bother me. I enjoy my work and I surround myself in things that make me happy, regardless of peoples pre-conceptions. These are generally immaterial things in life, they’re important because they allow you to do things, and they sustain your immediate happiness, but they serve no real purpose in the experience. / I’m saving for my next trip. There’s no greater education than experience first hand, to hear and tell stories, to see real passion in peoples eyes when they ferociously explain their plights. It’s these experiences, outside my weaning ground that will redefine my boundaries and push the limits of my tolerance and understanding. If I so happen to have a camera available, then great.

I have sold the original of Tropical Reef to a buyer from Brisbane…...I am proud to say this wonderful painting will be making it’s way to Brisbane early March…...I will deliver it myself….then head out to the art galleries whilst there…...The girl from the bush goes to the city…..lol This painting is 1m x1m and to truly value it you need to see it in person…there are layers of collage, layers of thin glazes of paint….it is truly stunning…..letting it go is not easy….. Hey guys, forgive me if I don’t get to comment on your work for a few days, I am back in the nine to five work force…..so time on computer at present is limited, the spare hours I have are spent on my painting and running my boys around….lol Thank you to my wonderful friends for the mail, keep it coming, love to you all, see / you soon…...Cheers Kym Tropical Reef

I entered it in their travel shot competition, along with an accompanying story.
