Canon Powershot with IR filter “As Is” / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / I have been waiting for this kind of shot for a long time. The storms were fierce with a ton of rain last night. I decided to take of work and spend the day at the falls near my house. I must have snapped 200 pictures today. What a great day!! I found a new toy its my infrared lens. Photographic based digital montage, 2007 (1 from series of 6 – redesigned from 2004/5 Japanese Series). Re-worked combining two from the series. I shot the tree, flowers & combined them in P/S with drawn elements & filtered the lot. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers. Generally I tire of my artwork yet still love this series to this day.

According to tradition, Sestri Levante was founded by the Ligurian tribe of the “Tigullii” and it was already known in the Roman Age under the name “Segesta Tigulliorum”. The ancient core of the town developed in the Middle Ages in a fortified position on the “island”. After the 15th century, the town expanded onto the alluvial plain south of the Gromolo river. Sestri Levante then became part of the Fieschi family’s domain, until it passed under the flags of the Republic of Genoa, which built the castle on the “island” and kept control of the town until the Napoleonic conquest.

We aren’t afraid of it. In fact, to us it is more powerful than words. Our elders were schooled in the ways of silence, and they passed that along to us. Watch, listen, and then act, they told us. This is the way to live. Watch the animals to see how they care for their young. Watch the elders to see how they behave. Watch the white man to see what he wants. Always watch first, with a still heart and mind, then you will learn. When you have watched enough, then you can act. With you it’s the opposite. You learn by talking. You reward the kids who talk the most in school. At your parties everyone is trying to talk. In your work you are always having meetings where everyone interrupts everyone else, and everyone talks five, ten, or a hundred times. You say it is ‘working out a problem’. When you are in a room and it is quiet you get nervous. You have to fill the space with sound. So you talk right away, before you even know what you are going to say. White people like to argue. They don’t even let each other finish sentences. They are always interrupting. To Indians this is very disrespectful and even very stupid. If you start talking, I’m not going to interrupt you. I will listen. Maybe I will stop listening if I don’t like what you are saying. But I won’t interrupt you. When you are done I will make my decision on what you said, but I won’t tell you if I disagree with you unless it is important. Otherwise I will just be quiet and go away. You have told me what I need to know. There is nothing more to say. But this isn’t enough for most white people. People should think of their words like seeds. They should plant them, then let them grow in silence. Our old people taught us that the earth is always speaking to us, but that we have to be silent to hear her. / There are lots of voices besides ours. Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Lower Antelope Canyon, called Hasdeztwazi, or “spiral rock arches” by the Navajo, is located a few kilometers away from the upper Antelope Canyon and is a more difficult hike. The Fenland Trail in the morning affords a good opportunity to see wildlife moving around the marsh and river areas. This trail connects to the Bow River Trail which actually goes all the way into Banff townsite proper. If you have time, this is a nice easy walk to get to this area without actually having to drive to get to it. The Vermillion Lakes are slightly to the west of the Fenland Trail and you can either walk to them or drive your car and use the pulloffs available. It’s a bit noisy being so close to the Trans Canada Hwy, but the scenery more than makes up for it. Throughout the day you’ll see numerous waterfowl frequenting the area. The real draw, however, is in the evening when the winds are low and the water is still, making the lake surface a mirror reflection of the now beautifully lit Mt Rundle in the background.
