Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. I have been waiting for this kind of shot for a long time. The storms were fierce with a ton of rain last night. I decided to take of work and spend the day at the falls near my house. I must have snapped 200 pictures today. What a great day!! I found a new toy its my infrared lens. We took the kids to Crich tramway museum today in the Peak District….they loved it. Ollie got very animated and excited….steam trains and trams seem to be his thing! Hurrah…..I am sooooooo going to make him a train set for Xmas! Anyway…..Lots to see and do at this museum…..you can ride the trams all day if you want! I have not been here since I was a boy…..it was a wonderful return. Not suprisingly They have added a few things…...one being a woodland walk from the terminus at the far end of the line. There are woodland sculptures that punctute the forest path, stone sculptures and other art installations with built in stained glass to catch the light! Then there is a wooden viewing platform…...this photo was taken standing on the very edge! I have been all over Europe, I worked in Spain for a while after finishing university in the early 90’s. I have been to the states…....but nothing stops me as still as the painterly majesty of Derbyshire. It takes my breath away everytime. Perhaps it is because I am English that it promotes such wonderment in me…...but I love it. I have had flirtations with teaching in New Zealand….and indeed would relish the opportunity of a placement there….....but I dont know of the depth and pull of the roots would stop the branches spreading…..this is who I am…...

This is a collaboration between my daughter, Brianna (13), and myself. :) She’s a fantastic photographer for her age..she amazes me much of the time. On a frosty june morning I found myself to the top of a local range near Geranium in the Souther Mallee looking at one of the most brilliant sunrise’s I have ever seen. The warm glow of the sun across the clouds and the shifting light made me forget about the the freezing temperatures I was working in.

Morning rainbow, Jokulsarlon, Iceland Iceland / Belgium / Hungary / France / Spain / Sri Lanka / USA / London / Portraits / Other Jokulsarlon is a glacial lake that meets the sea in Iceland. One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. Note: The size if this work was increased using Photoshop CS2. / Best size being around the 50cm wide.

I have produced hundreds of scribbles, sketches, drawings, cartoons and paintings over the years, yet when someone asks me how I come up with ideas for work I tell them I’m really not sure. A truly original idea for a piece of art is always a gift from somewhere else, and you just hope and pray it might happen again. I have thought about this subject a lot, about where inspiration or stream of consciousness comes from. The result was a large oil painting titled “Waiting for Inspiration”. It portrays a painter sitting on the floor of his studio adjacent to a large blank canvas propped up against the wall. A dirt road runs through the middle of the room, past the canvas and off into the distance. / The painter I guess is me, waiting to thumb that lift, to take that ride, to catch that inspiration.. before it passes through. / - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - - - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – /
