Looking down the gorge from the lower bridge, Falls of Bruar . I’m particularly impressed by the colours and the smooth glistening rocks. This area is rich in geology (an extension of the Loch Tay fault?): there’s a lot of limestone and other metamorphic sedimentary rocks (layered slate, possibly some schist) and a bit of red sandstone nearby, all folded making rakish angles. Taken on the Shen Hao 5×4” large-format camera with Fuji Velvia (old RVP emulsion) film.

Water – the most precious resource on the planet – is something we so take for granted in Scotland… what so many people all over the globe would give for even this supply….... I soaked my entire jeans leg taking this as i was kneeling in the swampy run-off from the fields on the hillside above but only noticed later when the freezing march cold began to bite! It’s amazing to me that the sky and clouds can be seen reflected in the flow! Taken in Peebles, scottish borders, below Glen Tress, getting splashed! :) Slightly cropped to remove an annoying grass stalk but otherwise untouched.

/ After a long walk today this is the result / On a walk through the Tillicourty Glen / we saw the view and took the shot / A photo of the distant River Forth flowing slowly to the sea / slightly spoiled by the Smokey stack bellowing white clouds / over the green fields that surround the river on all sides. / On our return through the town we spotted the wild stallion / tied to the gate standing proud and true but still out of place. / Untying him we walked back to the place he longed to be a place / where he’s free the be the wild Stallion he was born to be. / If only life was perfect Image and words are © Copyright 2008 Alan Findlater, All Rights Reserved / and can be purchased via redbubble.com/fincath / no other use is allowed without express permission.

The Glencoe Lochan is always a beautiful tranquil spot. This image was taken during Easter when the daffodils were open, which add a splash of colour in the foreground before your eyes are drawn down the length of the Lochan.

This is the last in my Puffins series for the moment. It’s not quite as sharp as I’d like, but I thought all the folk who were enjoying my puffin shots would like to see it. These puffins are “grazing” – gathering grass and stuff to repair their nests with. This housework is apparenty a common late afternoon activity. Taken on the island of Westray in the Orkney Isles. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

A softly blurred waterfall flowing through rocks, taken from the lower bridge in the Falls of Bruar. The geology of this place is quite impressive; at least 3 kinds of rocks (slate, limestone and possibly some schist) folded and thrust up at rakish angles around the Loch Tay fault, quite an impressive river gorge eroded by the Bruar Water.

Puffin, photographed on Westray, Orkney. He was very inquisitive and came to have a good look to see what I was doing! http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk
