457X610mm / Acrylic on canvas Inspired by traditional Japanese art I decided to explore the elusive yet beautiful world of being a Geisha. / “Geisha” ( pronounced ‘Gay-sha’ ) means artist in Japanese. The ‘real’ Geisha was not a common prostitute, the first Geishas were men who entertained patrons through artistry. The Geisha evolved into being the role of a woman in Japan, holding the equivalent status to celebrities today for their time. / The different forms of art they performed were tea ceremonies, dancing, calligraphy, painting, music, not to mention they were and still are walking pieces of art. / Other Christmas Cards and Art by Karin / / How many sales so far – 3 sales so far! / / / The Chinese Chop symbol with my initials was created by and comes courtesy of the lovely Keith Richardson / A Rainbow of Angels I drew ‘A Rainbow of Angels’ with a pencil over brown paper which had previously been painted with stripes of white gesso… I coloured it in with chalk pastels, coloured pencils and charcoal, and outlined it using black felt tip pens and charcoal After that we had some fun in Photoshop…and that’s when ‘A Rainbow of Angels’ came to life… This might make a cute Christmas card or tshirt for a special person or three :) / /

/ __________________ Fictional traditional painting, 30×40 cm / Charcoal, pencil, marker, coloured charcoal pencils, chalk and hair spray on top of them on canvas. / Creation Date: 03.11.2008 A big weird experiment using charcoal, pencil, marker, coloured charcoal pencils, chalk and hair spray on top of them (to retain and hold all these well) on canvas. Of course the hair spray made all these blend and make it dark, as the chalk and the charcoal pencils (that I use to lighten up) were soaked and absorbed. / Very disappointing because I was really pleased and with all these elements I think it worths a lot. I scanned it and hold it was after the hair spray – I always love the gothic feel it has.
